Chapter 965 The Will of the Abyss
Chapter 965 The Will of the Abyss
His entire resume has a confusing timeline, spanning even beyond his youth.
Davis Carneiro.
Investigator C (abbreviated as Investigator C).
The person who died on the eve of the blood moon suddenly returned.
But what he was holding was a letter of introduction from the Abyss.
"So he is definitely not the original person, neither the dreamer nor the dream creator."
Rick turned to the side, his gaze shifting to the figure downstairs.
The latter was also looking up at him.
After a few minutes.
In the stylish council chamber of the upper attic of the Healing Church, Rick and C sat facing each other.
“This is a crazy world, isn’t it? People hated by the gods can become leaders of believers here,” C spoke first.
But Rick ignored the comment and simply looked at the face of the person in front of him with curiosity.
He wanted to see clearly what was underneath that human skin.
Rick was convinced that this thing must be some kind of shady, disguised creature. In the many books of the world, there are many ways to bring the dead back to life. Almost all of the three classes of magic contain methods of resurrection, but without exception, they all require paying a heavy price, and the person ultimately summoned back is very likely not the original person.
Krik realized that the person in front of him was indeed a living, breathing human being, not some monster in human skin. At least from his perspective, C was a "lump" of original, whole flesh and blood.
That leaves only one possibility: the other party is a being with a life sequence far superior to one's own, and has now completely bewitched and controlled one's mind.
It allowed him to "see" false things that do not exist in reality.
...
"Tell me your purpose for coming." Rick tried to remain calm and pushed the "letter of introduction" that the other party had brought back onto the table.
He hadn't had much interaction with Investigator C, but he knew of the man's existence back in the waking world of Nanwei City.
"My purpose in coming here is very simple."
C interlaced his fingers, smiled, and said to Rick:
"My original intention was to return to the Miskatonic River Basin that I was familiar with, but after arriving, I discovered that the Dream Weaver's understanding did not include that river basin. However, even if she forcibly created it based on her imagination, it would be far different from what I remembered. So, I only have the second thing left for this trip."
C paused, then said solemnly:
"I have come to deliver a message for that one in the abyss."
Rick: "You say it."
C looked up and addressed Rick directly. His tone was very calm, with almost no trace of hostility.
"The Lord of Flames has found what he needs, but he wants to become the King of the Gods, and all the changes will begin from here."
Rick: "You're definitely not yourself."
A look of curiosity crossed C's face as he asked Rick, "Why do you say that?"
Rick: "Because you never used to say these kinds of riddles before. Only charlatans would use this tone and wording."
“I see.” C said thoughtfully, then quickly added, “But I was just repeating the words of the real charlatan.”
"So whose words are you repeating?" Rick asked, then changed his mind halfway through, "Whom are you representing?"
“The Elder of the Abyss,” C said. “This is His new name, or we can use His original name—Nodens.”
“I see.” Rick said, taking out a pen and paper from the drawer and copying down C’s words in their entirety before putting them away. “I will deliver the message you brought to them completely and accurately. Is there anything else?” Rick asked, waving the paper in his hand.
"If possible, I would like to go and see what Nanwei City is like now." C's tone remained calm, but this time there was an added touch of earnestness in his words.
However, Rick bluntly rejected his request: "I'm just a doorman, but I don't have the key."
“Indeed, this request is a little excessive.” C lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then said, “Well, I have nothing else to do. I might borrow your high altitude to look up at the battle in the distance, and then I will leave.”
"Where to?" Rick asked.
“Go to the world of awakening,” C replied after thinking for a moment.
“There’s nothing left there.” Rick shook his head. “Your Miskatonic is gone too.”
“But it’s a cycle; after something is extinguished, a spark will always reignite, won’t it?” C said.
Rick asked, "Is this also what the old man from the abyss wanted?"
“No, this is my own opinion,” C replied calmly.
At that moment, a piercing roar came from the distant horizon.
Rick turned to look at the sea area where Nanwei City was located, feeling the terrifying oppressive atmosphere and rampant power of the rules there. Rick said:
“Mr. Canero, I’m afraid the real show is over. From this angle, it seems like you can’t see anything at all.”
“We can still see a little bit.” C followed Rick’s gaze and said, “The gods will undergo a reshuffle. Whether it’s the dream gods, the outer gods, or even the ancient gods, the cycle of suffering is the same as that of the waking world, only on a larger scale and spanning a longer period of time.”
"Are these words spoken on behalf of the old man of the abyss, or...?"
“This is my own idea,” C said.
“Oh.” Rick nodded, then asked, “So how did you leave the Abyss? You must be a product of the Abyss, right? If I’m not mistaken.”
“Yes, I am.” C nodded: “There are thousands of similar individuals in the abyss, and they are all extremely similar. I am one of them.”
"So, according to you, there are many other versions of me in the abyss, right?" Rick raised an eyebrow.
“Of course, like I said, everyone has it.” C nodded and said, “Otherwise, why do you think I could find you? Besides, I also know where the protein you regularly consume comes from.”
"Did I, the one in the abyss, tell you this?" Rick asked, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
“No, I forced him to say it,” C said. “Of course, at that time I was still immersed in my identity as a mystery investigator and couldn’t extricate myself from it, and I regarded you as some kind of dark inhabitant. But rest assured, now my will is independent, and what protein you eat is meaningless to me.”
“No wonder you said the gods hate me.” Rick suddenly understood something.
At first, he thought the person whom C mentioned, whom the gods hated, was Milo.
But now he understood: if there were many Ricks in the abyss constantly chasing after high-quality protein, how could the gods not hate him?
After all, the full name of "superior protein" is "protein of the superiors".
...
"Hey, it seems like it's over over there."
Rick suddenly realized that the sounds of battle in the distance had subsided.
When they turned back, they found that Investigator C, who had been sitting across the table, was nowhere to be seen.
