Chapter 889 Embers
Chapter 889 Embers
King Kurans probably revealed some earth-shattering secrets.
But Milo only glanced sideways, without any obvious reaction, and even said with some lack of interest:
"This is not the most terrifying prophecy I have ever encountered."
...
"Then I also want to ask a question, a question that has been on my mind for a long time."
King Kurans turned to look at Milo.
The latter nodded, signaling King Kurans to continue.
Kurans's Way:
"Which outcome would you rather see: the return of the gods corrupted by chaos, or the invasion of the outer gods above the stars?"
“Strictly speaking, neither of these can be considered a result,” Milo gave a strange answer.
But King Kurans nodded: "I think I understand what you mean."
He stood up and dusted himself off.
Looking towards the western coastal area, at the city wall that had been cracked open and revealed its lingering glow, he seemed to have made a decision, and there was a hint of relief on his face.
"You can rest assured about the abyss here. I will always guard Os-Nargai, and I will take good care of the descendants of the conquerors and that old man. If anything really crawls out of the abyss one day, I will be the first rebel they see."
King Kurans, as seen in the image of Milo, displayed the green-glowing gem crystals on his arm, the power belonging to Nath Horthas, the god of emeralds.
“I know you won’t believe me, and that might be a problem.”
Milo nodded: "Os-Nargai can be considered the weakest defensive region in the entire Dreamland."
No rational person would choose to stay here, whether facing the remnants of the past in the dream world or the ancient gods or outer gods that may appear in the future.
“But none of the dream weavers are rational beings.” King Kurans shook his head, as if he could see through Milo’s thoughts, and pointed to his head, saying, “People like us can’t possibly give up the city we created. Do you know why?”
"Why?" Milo, who had been deprived of the right to dream, could not truly understand the thoughts of the dreamers.
King Kurans smiled wryly:
"Because this city, created from a dream, is the only thing that is similar to the world in my memory, something that I can touch."
The petite Enid at Milo's waist seemed to resonate with something, and her aura became clearer than before.
This caught Milo's attention. He waited patiently for a while, hoping to see if Enid would have a chance to wake up, or at least make a sound.
But after that slight fluctuation of will, there was no further movement.
Milo shrugged, somewhat disappointed.
"Besides these things that I simply can't empathize with, you must have something else of greater value to give me, right?"
His expression seemed to say: I've come all this way, you have to give me something today no matter what.
Eternity was not King Kurans' original intention in creating Os-Nargai. Now, Milo has helped him break the curse of the gods on this kingdom, and he can finally restore Os-Nargai to its original form.
Such a great favor, if Milo doesn't ask for something in return, then he's just not good at managing his life.
...
"I do have something to give you."
King Kurans nodded sensibly, but then changed his mind and said:
"No, strictly speaking, this thing doesn't belong to me. It's something I found when I was young, wandering in the abyss, and was about to be consumed by chaos. Maybe it's something you left behind."
He took out a piece of slightly smoking charcoal from his sleeve.
Although the exterior of that thing was charred black, there seemed to be a residual ember inside, emitting a dim red glow.
...
Milo took the dark, blackish object that was emitting black smoke and asked with some doubt, "What's the use of this thing?"
"It will be of great use!" King Kurans gave Milo a mysterious look.
Before Milo could even speak, he stood on the edge of the cliff and leaped off! "Hey, what are you doing?!" Milo reached out to grab him, but the guy did a sassy mid-air hip twist, dodging Milo's hand, and plunged headfirst into the abyss from the edge of the cliff!
"Damn it, you're sick!"
Milo stood by the abyss for a moment, then took a small step into the air and jumped in.
...
……
nothingness.
dark.
It was as if in the beginning of chaos, before matter had been born.
As far as the eye could see, there were no reference points, just a pitch-black void.
This is a darkness without distinction between good and evil; it does not evoke fear or any other negative associations, and it is the purest and most pristine kind.
...
Kurans' voice echoed from the void:
"First, you need to use your fire power to simulate the form of the flame in that ember."
Then came Milo's voice:
Is that what you mean?
puff-
A small, warm, and luminous campfire ignited in the absolute darkness.
Some chaotic matter began to gather together, gradually evolving into the initial kindling, and the flames began to burn brightly.
The light it provided revealed the figures of King Kurans and Milo, who were crouching on either side of the campfire.
...
The handsome face of the Shadow and the fat face of the King came close to the flames, the firelight shining on them from below, the strange angle of the light making both faces look extremely sinister.
This is the third form of the fire of sin.
It is neither the black that represents absolute annihilation, nor the gentle natural flame, but a fusion of the two.
A fire that can burn in the abyss.
...
"So what is its function?" Milo asked.
"It allows you to walk in the abyss," King Kurans said mysteriously in a low voice.
Milo said impatiently, "Why are you speaking in such a high-pitched voice?"
"Don't you think this creates a better atmosphere?" the latter replied.
“Indeed.” Milo suddenly agreed, and lowered his voice as well.
“But aren’t we walking in the abyss right now?” he asked King Kurans.
King Kurans shook his head repeatedly: "No, no, no, it's not about walking in the physical sense. I mean walking among the countless small worlds that evolved from the chaos of the abyss, without having to destroy the original world every time to escape. Do you understand what I mean?"
"They say you're someone who returned after traversing the stars and encountering the void. Is that what you relied on?" Milo pointed to the fire on the ground. "You also wield the fire of sin?"
Kurans shook his head frantically:
"If I had the Flame of Sin, I would have set Mount Kadas on fire long ago. I used embers. When I first found it, it was as big as a millstone, but I don't know how to create flames, so I can only use it as a consumable. Now there's only a tiny bit left."
