Chapter 451 The Unseen Land

Chapter 451 The Unseen Land
"Mego?"

Milo subconsciously uttered the name the girl in the sanctuary had mentioned before, the so-called child of the lost era.

"That crying was absolutely awful."

Milo offered a nonchalant comment.

...

In the dark, primeval jungle.

Milo followed the gaps in the trees and went deep underground.

This place is shrouded in a vast expanse of mist. Unlike the outside world, the dense vegetation here keeps the mist sealed off year-round, so it's estimated that even during the day, this place is completely shrouded in darkness.

Who would have thought that behind the church's magnificent buildings was a primeval jungle?

Who would have thought that the misty primeval forest would be so "lively"?

...

……

Of course, the liveliness referred to here does not mean that there are actually any living creatures moving around in the Misty Jungle; in fact, Milo can only hear their voices.

These sounds came from near and far, and each one was in a different state.

Some sound like scholars whispering formulas from books, others like the murmurs of someone in their sleep, and still others like a passionate debate...

Their accents also differ, and some of their grammar and speech habits sound old-fashioned in today's world.

Despite the numerous strange noises emanating from the fog, Milo did not see a single person.

It seems that the area from the Misty Forest onwards has been designated as a forbidden zone, as no living creature within the church has ever approached it.

Separating the misty jungle from the buildings is an unfathomable ravine, with a sheer cliff perpendicular to the ground on the side closest to the church complex.

There was a lonely suspension bridge here, but it had been taken down.

Milo leaped over using pure physical strength.

……

Whispers continued throughout the jungle.

Milo calmly continued his journey deeper into the area.

He neither listened attentively to the baby's cries that lingered in his ears nor heard the scholar's voice that occasionally drifted through the mist, nor did he sense any eeriness.

He stepped through the damp ground of the misty jungle and ventured deeper into it.

As the terrain gradually lowered, the light that could be seen around was no longer the hazy moonlight that barely pierced through the mist and gaps in the branches and leaves, but was replaced by the faint fluorescence emitted by these fungi. Milo had also experienced a similar environment and atmosphere in the Enchanted Forest of Dreamland.

However, the enchanted forest is inhabited by sneaky forest animals.

There was no sign of any living creature here.

The road in Milo slopes downwards, like a giant mouth opened up by the earth. The further down you go, the more unusual the types of vegetation become, mostly those that you can't find on the ground.

Those clamorous whispers seemed to gather only on the outskirts of the jungle. Now, deep within the jungle where the mushrooms glowed, Milo could no longer hear the voices of scholars from different eras.

But the baby's crying continued.

……

Furthermore, the outer perimeter of the Misty Forest appears to be an untouched, pristine landscape, without any trace of human intervention.

But as they went deeper, Milo began to find traces left by humans.

Those were stone steps covered with thick moss and vines on some rugged sections of the road. There weren't many steps, and you could only see three or four steps at a time. In some completely vertical cliff areas, there were rope ladders hanging there. However, these rope ladders were also very old, and many of them had rotted away, leaving only two lonely sections of rope hanging there.

Although they had lost their original purpose, these things at least helped Milo find his way.

...

In the deepest part of the misty jungle.

What Milo saw was an elevator with an unknown power source.

There is a start handle on the ground next to it.

"This flavor is really strong."

Milo muttered something and kicked the start switch.

Then, the muffled sounds of chains rubbing and gears turning echoed through the dark underground environment.

About half a minute later, an old elevator rose up in the dark area ahead.

Milo stepped onto the elevator and stomped on a raised device in the center of the elevator floor. Then, the elevator made that unpleasant noise again and descended at a steady speed.

Along the way, Milo could only see the cliff face that kept rising along the side of the elevator, and he didn't pay attention to what the dark space behind him was.

……

Half a minute later, the elevator landed heavily on a damp area.

The temperature here is even lower than in the misty jungle above. Milo's breath was already steaming from his mouth and nose.

Milo calmly looked up and glanced at the surroundings outside the elevator.

Most of the area was dark, but judging from the sound of the elevator hitting the ground and the subsequent echoes, it was easy to tell that this was a very spacious underground space, several times larger than the Pilgrim's Cave in the Ikham Wilderness.

You really can't see anything with the naked eye.

Milo stepped out of the elevator.

But as soon as they stepped out, a huge stone ball, about three or four meters in diameter, rolled over the edge of the elevator.

The left half of the object shattered the moment it hit Milo's body, and it crashed erratically into a low-lying area, but the expected thud did not return; it was as if it had vanished from the spot.

Milo shook the stone fragments off his boots, looking annoyed: "Doing all this..."

...

He went straight out of the elevator.

Does "the unseen land" mean it's so dark you can't see anything?

Milo rubbed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, he no longer used his naked eye to look around, but his spiritual eye.

He is now a member of the Shadow Order. The Shadow is a darker existence than the "blackness" in the environment caused by a lack of light. In the dim environment, his Vision can not only provide Milo with the general outline of everything around him, but he can even see the "blackness" of this place.

……

Although it is also an underground space.

But unlike the caves in the Iqlam wilderness that are filled with a primitive and wild atmosphere, the so-called "Unseen Land" is a more complete architectural site.

Although the area has been twisted and collapsed due to tectonic movements, the outline of the building embedded underground can still be clearly seen.

It is a unique architectural style that stands in stark contrast to any other region or period on Earth today.

It is not at all the traditional flying buttresses and pointed arches of terrestrial civilizations. Instead, it presents a strange sense of disharmony. It does not have the extreme pursuit of geometric symmetry and harmony that modern humans have. Instead, it presents a kind of chaos and disorder. If it had to be described in some way, it could only be "flames".

This group of buildings buried underground is like a burning flame, giving people the feeling that its form is always changing and can never be fixed. Even after being buried for countless years, it still seems to possess a certain indescribable sense of life.

This is a place unseen.

A forbidden area sealed off by the church.

Milo saw a corner of the dark ruins.

But for the time being, he has not yet found Daisy and De La Shaw's whereabouts.

...

The buildings embedded beneath the surface are not vertically embedded; many of their structures have been twisted, collapsed, and buried at an angle.

Therefore, the doors, windows, and paths that Milo can find today are all at an angle of at least 30° to the horizontal ground, sloping downwards.

The unseen land is like an underground labyrinth.

But Milo didn't think much of it and went straight through the largest passage into the complex.

As he walked down the ancient, sloping road, Milo's gaze lingered for a few seconds on some broken stone tablets on both sides of the road.

The stone tablets are inscribed with proverbs using strangely shaped symbols.

And coincidentally, Milo was able to read these ancient scripts—

"The will of the superior sent the golden meteor and the beast to this barren land, and the oldest faith and prayer began."

"The stars in the distant, dark, and lightless realms, forever harboring malice, have stolen the skies from their inhabitants and destroyed the eternal kingdom."

“In the past, great kings served the Scarlet, but in later generations, only abandoned and corrupt souls remember those years.”

"But the furnace rejected all the will of the gods, reserving its only tenderness for the seed of gold."

"When the forerunner of destruction arrives, and the stars are in their rightful place, the monsters slumbering in the grave will be awakened, and the grave itself will be awakened as well."

……

Despite the extremely obscure and difficult-to-understand content, Milo couldn't help but stop and observe it for a while.

Because these ruins seem to have some totem carvings, or wild beasts, or strange creatures brought by ferocious mythical creatures, all of which Milo has never seen before.

"Is today's theme 'Riddles'?"

He shook his head.

Back in the sanctuary, the girl in white had already fed him a whole bunch of nonsensical messages. Now, in this unseen land below, he found these fragmented proverbs everywhere, and not a single one of them was human language.
