Ke-style law enforcement officers
Chapter 443 Coincidence
Chapter 443 Coincidence
"Damn it, all of them are trash. Familiars, believers, and vampire minions have all come."
When Milo returned to the law enforcement office, he was still muttering curses under his breath.
Imnar's fear did indeed draw out many of the lurking spirits hidden in Nanwei City, but these small fry were not Milo's target at all; he was looking for the vampire spirit seer.
What Milo didn't understand was, since the vampire spirit seer knew it was a trap and chose to remain still, why did he send his men out to their deaths?
……
Although the so-called Apostles of Calamity who were cut in half by Milo did indeed have Grasso's blood on their hands, Milo's resentment did not diminish in the slightest.
Unless that vampire spirit seer is found.
...
When Milo returned to the law enforcement office, the entire Dulles family had already been arrested.
The charge was that they had brutally chopped their head of household into mincemeat.
Furthermore, the enforcement team also found a great deal of evidence of heretical religious rituals at the Dulles family estate, including the photographs that Enid had been longing for.
With irrefutable evidence involving an evil cult, the downfall of the Dürer family was inevitable.
Even the noble class of Nanwei City couldn't utter a single word of rebuttal. Moreover, the Duller family's seats in the county council and even the royal city council would soon be uprooted.
The reason was not the murder itself, but religious factors.
The aristocratic class is indeed a group bound by shared interests to some extent, and in most cases they will unite against external forces.
However, once they are associated with religion, they become hesitant and timid.
The law enforcement system was not the biggest obstacle for the aristocratic class; what truly had a deterrent effect was religious belief.
Even within aristocratic circles, most people are believers in the Golden Rule, and incredibly devout ones at that. They were all rescued from the clutches of the plague by the Church's blood healing technique.
Therefore, when the fact that the Dürer family served a heretical religious culture was exposed, other members of the aristocracy could only do their best to sever ties with the Dürer family and, incidentally, kick them while they were down, in order to prove their own innocence and piety.
Simply put, from this day forward, the Dürer family is dead.
Those direct descendants of Dulle who were accused of patricide were unaware of what had happened and were sent to prison or execution ground in a state of panic and confusion.
What happened next was no longer Milo's concern.
As mentioned before, he doesn't care how many of these "framed" Dürer individuals are truly guilty and how many are innocent.
This is not revenge.
……
"Is this considered punishment? Or perhaps, a reckoning?"
Marshall leaned close to Milo and whispered something.
Milo glanced down at it, shrugged, and said, "The exiled fellow said some strange things before he left. He said that his followers and my followers would be engaged in an endless war for a long time to come."
Marshall's eyes darted around as he carefully considered the sentence, then he craned his neck and asked, "Talking tough?"
Milo shook his head: "I thought so at first, but I just set up a trap, and most of its followers have appeared, except for the more powerful psychics who did not show their traces."
“That doesn’t make sense. If there’s a psychic among them who can see through your movements, then the other ordinary members shouldn’t be showing up either.” Marshall realized something.
Milo muttered, "So I don't think what Imnar said was just empty talk."
"Is it an order? Or a curse?" Marshall was smart enough to grasp the crux of the problem immediately.
“Yes.” Milo nodded: “It’s not that the Visionary failed to control his henchmen, but that only a follower of his caliber could disobey Imnar’s orders to his followers, so he didn’t show up.”
"But isn't the power of this curse command too weak? It can't even do anything to you, so why do you think its followers can cause you trouble?" Marshall asked, puzzled.
But Milo shrugged:
"Who said this curse is directed at me? It's directed at my followers."
"Your followers?"
Marshall paused for a second.
But soon a very human-like expression of realization appeared on its furry face:
"Oh~~ The one lying in the basement, is he one of your followers..."
“That’s the only way to understand it.” Milo nodded. “After she died, some…some…something thoughts came to my mind, like what you call punishment and reckoning. I think, I think I may not have realized it myself, and Grasso may not have realized it either, but in the past year, we have formed a certain connection between believers and superiors.”
“An ancient curse?” Marshall frowned, though it had no eyebrows.
It then added, "If, as you say, a believer at the level of a psychic can disobey the orders of their superiors, then why did he come to Nanwei City? Doesn't he know that the superior he serves was taken away by you?"
"Maybe he really didn't know."
Milo shook his head.
……
A man and a cat were sitting on the office windowsill, discussing something.
A shadowy figure sneaked in.
It's Enid.
"Why aren't you dealing with the Duller family's affairs? What are you doing here?"
Exposing the Dulles family's crimes was something Milo had promised Enid.
However, some things went wrong. Milo didn't expect that his seemingly casual arrangement would lead to Grasso's utter ruin, but the result remained the same: the Dulles family was finished, only this time it was a huge loss.
……
"I'm here to submit some documents."
Enid glanced at Marshall, the little black cat crouching beside Milo, and subconsciously stopped in her tracks, placing a file box she had brought on Milo's desk.
"I have found the person you asked me to find. I can't guarantee it's the one you're referring to, but at least the name is the same."
"Tutis Crow?"
Milo's brow furrowed.
In fact, he didn't expect Enid to actually find this person's file, at least not so quickly.
He glanced at Enid.
I noticed that this little guy was standing there with his hands tucked in his pockets, seemingly hesitant to come any closer.
Following Enid's somewhat wary gaze, she saw Marshall standing next to her.
Milo muttered:
"There's no need to be so afraid of it, is there? Although it can be a bit temperamental at times."
“No.” Enid shook her head frantically.
She recounted her experience at the archives earlier that day.
The gist of it is that she woke up in the archive and when she was about to leave, she found that the door to the archive was blocked by a figure. The figure stood at the door without moving and did not respond to any of her questions from inside.
But just as she was about to open the door to find out what was going on, the figure was suddenly tackled by something.
Then a series of sharp tearing sounds rang out.
Enid quickly drew her gun and opened the door, but found no one there; only a small black cat was crouching in the hallway.
That little black cat is Marshall.
……
After hearing this story, Milo could roughly guess what had happened.
He glanced down at Marshall again, who innocently twitched his two large ears.
Milo simply changed the subject and asked Enid:
"You slept in the archives all night?"
"Uh..." Enid looked embarrassed and explained, "Well, I was too tired yesterday."
Milo picked up the file box on the table, opened it, and casually remarked, "The archives are quite dusty."
“I cleaned the box beforehand.” Enid clearly didn’t understand Milo’s meaning.
“I mean, why don’t you clean the spider webs and dust off your butt first?” Milo tilted his head.
Enid reached behind her and wiped her hand.
"Ugh, how embarrassing..."
……
After Enid fled as if her life depended on it.
Marshall then spoke:
"Looks like you'll have to keep a close eye on this little girl."
Milo sat at the table, head down, quickly flipping through the files Enid had sent, and asked casually, "You mean she's about to become my follower too?"
“I don’t know how to define whether a human has become your follower, but the person who cornered her in the archives this morning should be a follower of your adversary, or a member of their clan. In any case, they’re awful.” Marshall stuck out his tongue.
"That must be a follower of Engel Korath. Imnar once lost itself and even forgot who it was. It's impossible for it to have followers in this world, so it must be a follower serving its biological father, Engel Korath, who is carrying out that curse. But it doesn't matter, since it was created by the fission of Engel Korath..."
Milo explained haltingly.
Suddenly, he stopped speaking.
His gaze was focused on a stamp at the end of the file in his hand.
This is the death certificate of the person whose file it belongs to.
The file Enid found showed that the person on record, named Tutis Crow, had died more than a decade ago, executed for breaking the law...
The specific case file was not preserved, but the death certificate does indeed bear the stamp of the law enforcement system.
Based on his birth year, even if this Tutis Claude were still alive, he would be an old man with one foot in the ground, and could not possibly be the Raven, the scholar of the Monsis school that Milo knew. He would be at most in his forties.
"Is it just a coincidence?"
Milo dusted off the file and fell into a brief moment of contemplation.
