Ke-style law enforcement officers
The last question in Chapter 44
The Last Question in Chapter 44
The swearing-in ceremony for the enforcement team was very simple and unpretentious. They simply gathered at the Nanwei City Enforcement Headquarters, lined up, and recited the Enforcer's Oath in unison in front of the totem of the Scythe of Judgment.
Then there is no more.
There were no lengthy speeches from leaders, nor were there any award ceremonies. The meeting was immediately dismissed, and everyone returned to their respective work units.
This should be the best impression the law enforcement system has ever given Milo.
The streamlined approach, free from red tape, demonstrates the efficiency of this law enforcement team. Of course, it could also simply be that the leadership is too lazy to waste time with formalities, but at least it shows that the law enforcement system doesn't need to put on a show for anyone.
There were no media personnel at the law enforcement headquarters; everyone was dressed in black trench coats.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Milo encountered Charles, the examiner from the day of the assessment, and Colin from Nanwei Academy.
The two exchanged a smile from a distance, without making much contact.
Judging from his position, Colin now belongs to the West City Law Enforcement Office, and his current superior is Charles.
We're colleagues now, but who knows what will happen in the future.
……
After the swearing-in ceremony, Milo and the others were taken back to the law enforcement office.
He is currently in a one-month trial period.
"During your probation period, you all need to follow the rules and do whatever you're told, or pack your bags and get out."
The person standing at the front of the law enforcement hall giving a speech was not Rebecca.
Instead, he was an older man who served as the chief of the team and the head of the criminal investigation team. Everyone called him Old Theon.
In reality, the departmental structure of the law enforcement office is not very clear or defined. This is directly related to the relatively short history of the law enforcement system. For example, in the current Chengnan Law Enforcement Office, starting from the highest-ranking officer, Chief Enforcement Officer Rebecca, the departments are organized into groups: criminal investigation, economic investigation, technical investigation, public security, and traffic. Each group has a nominal category, but the actual division of labor is not clear. Just like when investigating the serial murder case, once an emergency occurs, everyone has to be mobilized, whether you are a technician or a security guard...
Old Theon is the most senior officer in the South City Enforcement Office, and also the oldest frontline enforcement officer.
He wore neither a hat nor a mask, had a square buzz cut, and his slightly thin face was covered with stubble that had turned slightly white. But his eyes were as sharp and piercing as a hawk's. He didn't look fierce all the time, but judging from his appearance alone, he must have been at least three years old.
Milo stood in the hall and glanced sideways at the queue beside him.
There were a total of 8 new recruits who were assigned to the Chengnan Law Enforcement Office this time.
According to the confirmed and publicized list, these people will be assigned to various department groups, while Milo himself has been placed in the criminal investigation department group.
This was to be expected. Nero went to great lengths to bring Milo into the law enforcement team, but he couldn't possibly let him manage traffic. Besides, the law enforcement team doesn't really care about traffic matters. There is a traffic department, that part of the work is usually handled by the city guards, and law enforcement officers only come out when there is a problem.
That means that from today onwards, Theon is Milo's boss.
Rebecca is Milo's boss's boss.
Rebecca's position above Theon, who has been in the law enforcement system for decades, at her age, can only be attributed to Nero's formidable abilities; otherwise, Rebecca could not have held onto her position so securely.
……
While old Theon was giving his speech, the other enforcers surrounded the hall, watching Milo and his group of greenhorns with extremely scrutinizing gazes, as if they wanted to see right through you, even the color of your underwear.
The speech ended.
Old Theon snapped his fingers at Milo from a distance, signaling him to follow.
Milo, led by old Theon, entered the criminal investigation department office of the law enforcement agency.
Good heavens, not a soul in sight. "The administrative team is always very busy, and everyone has different tasks. They spend most of their time away from the city center because the city center isn't where crime is most concentrated; the suburbs and countryside are."
As soon as old Theon entered the office, he lit a cigarette and rummaged through drawers looking for a lighter, his hurried movements suggesting an eagerness to get started.
Milo thought to himself, "If you were only outside lecturing for five minutes, how much of a smoking habit must you have?"
After finally lighting his cigarette, old Theon took a deep drag, slowing down his speech as he leisurely sat down at his desk.
"You don't smoke?"
"I've just quit," Milo said with a polite smile.
“What do you mean by ‘consider’? Who told you to quit?” Old Theon raised an eyebrow.
“My sister,” Milo answered without hesitation.
Emma does forbid him from smoking at home, but Milo himself doesn't know the specific reason; perhaps she genuinely dislikes the smell of smoke.
“Oh well, you’ll have to go back to this line of work sooner or later anyway.” Old Theon waved his hand, took a document from the inside pocket of his trench coat, and tossed it to Milo.
"These are the documents compiled by the Human Resources Department. Take a quick look through them to see if there are any places that require your signature, sign them casually, and then send them to the document department later."
“Okay.” Milo took the documents, pulled up a chair, sat down, and began signing them.
“Milo Valrokan, right?” Old Theon, a cigarette dangling from his lips, glanced at the name Milo had signed on the document. “Quite a tongue-twisting surname. I think I’ve seen you a few times.”
“If I’m not mistaken, you’ve probably arrested me before, and more than once.” Milo looked up at old Theon.
He had been in and out of the Enforcement Office quite a few times, especially after the incident on the night of the Day of the Dead, which caused such a stir that almost everyone in the Enforcement Office remembered Milo, and old Theon was no exception.
"Would you like to explain why you joined the enforcement team?" Old Theon suddenly asked.
“If I remember correctly, you were the ones who arrested me.” Milo’s lips twitched slightly.
"I mean, why did you become a law enforcement officer? Ugh, is communication really that difficult?" Old Theon scratched his forehead.
"Why become a law enforcement officer?" Milo chuckled. "How about I recite the law enforcement manifesto for you again?"
"There's no point in all that fluff," old Theon shook his head and exhaled a puff of smoke into the air.
“No fluff, that's for sure, I can't really memorize it anyway.” Milo's smile faded, and he answered calmly and seriously:
"The truth is, if I don't wear this black trench coat, my whole family will die."
"I understand."
Old Theon grinned and patted Milo on the shoulder:
"Let's finish signing first, then I'll take you to get your trench coat. Oh, right, we also need to go to the armory. What kind of weapons are you better at?"
"Uh, either way is fine with me," Milo replied casually, signing his name with his head down.
"Nonsense," old Theon scoffed, clearly disbelieving, before asking another question with great seriousness:
"One last question, black stockings or flesh stockings?"
"Lace".
"Welcome to the Law Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Department."
The first interaction between the old man and the young man was very pleasant.
Because the two not only have compatible temperaments, but also the same sexual preferences.
