Chapter 42 Recruitment
The firearms used in the live-fire exercise were not pistols as Enid had previously stated, but rather single-shot rifles with a rotating bolt action. These rifles employed a simple musket-style hammer-fire mechanism and required manual cocking.

This means that after each bullet is fired, the bolt needs to be stopped and pulled back to feed the bullet into the chamber.

A cycle consists of pulling the bolt, aiming, firing, chambering and reloading, and aiming again.

So Colin was completely stunned when he heard the five gunshots ringing out in such a continuous sequence.

The interval between each shot was no more than two seconds. Such speed would be impossible even for someone holding the most familiar rifle, let alone an old-fashioned rifle with high wear and tear at a shooting range.

What does those five consecutive shots signify?
This means that the shooter had an extremely precise grasp of the weapon and had become familiar with the structural wear and tear of the rifle in less than a minute of preparation time; otherwise, it would have been impossible to fire five shots so smoothly and quickly.

Because it was really too fast.

It was so fast it looked like they weren't even aiming, just firing randomly in a haphazard, half-hearted manner.

……

Colin received military-style training from his father and uncles from a young age. He had seen many people who spent their lives with firearms and had a high level of mastery over weapons. He had also seen many sharpshooters. However, he still couldn't understand the five clean and decisive shots just now.

He really couldn't accept it unless the results later proved that all five shots missed the target.

"What are you waiting for? Get out of here after you've fired five shots."

The examiner at the shooting range saw Colin standing there in a daze with his rifle in his hand and impatiently urged him on.

At this time, law enforcement academy candidates who had finished running 5 kilometers with weights outside also poured in one after another.

Colin could only take a few deep breaths quickly to adjust his state.

……

boom……

bang bang...

Gunfire echoed continuously at the shooting range as candidates came and went in waves.

The candidates who had finished their live-fire shooting left the shooting range. Milo and Colin followed behind Charles, who was holding two target papers in his hand, showing the results of Milo and Colin's live-fire shooting.

As Charles recorded their shooting scores on the report card, he muttered to himself:

"Have you two thought about where you'll go after the final results come out?"

Milo blinked: "What do you mean?"

Colin looked puzzled as well: "Examiner, isn't the exam still going on?"

Charles rolled his eyes: "Can't you understand human language? I'm asking you two if you've been recruited by any department in advance? Also, the exams are over, and this year's cohort won't have any intra-group combat events."

Milo suddenly realized, oh~ so he means he's going to "reserve" me and Colin in advance?

However, Milo smiled slightly with narrowed eyes, without giving a clear answer.

As for Colin, his focus was completely off the subtext of Charles's words. He paused for a moment, then frowned:
"The intra-group competition has been canceled? That won't do. How am I supposed to improve my results then? I..."

"What do you mean, 'you'? What are you trying to argue about? The outcome is already decided." Charles simply spread out the two target papers in front of the two men:

“Look, you got 45 rings, and he got a perfect 50.”

"What?" Colin was completely stunned.

Is there anyone who can score a perfect 50 points?

And it was that kind of terrifying gun speed?
He turned his head and looked at Milo as if he were a monster, then was about to pounce on him and hug him, shouting:

"Big brother, please teach me. I want to learn that 'bang bang bang' sound I just heard, that speed of gunfire."

"You're several years older than me, so who are you calling 'big brother'?" Milo stepped aside, preventing the crazy kid from hugging him.

"I don't care, I want to learn, please, I'll follow you from now on, damn it." Colin was shameless, grabbing Milo's clothes and refusing to let go.

"What's wrong with you? Weren't you supposed to be the male god of Nanwei Academy? Why are you so angry?"

Milo looked disgusted.

"Are you going to let go or not? If you don't, we'll really have to have a team competition later."

“No problem.” Colin obediently let go of her hand, but kept muttering, “As long as you take me with you, everything is fine.”

……

"Have you had enough?" Charles, who was standing to the side, was completely dumbfounded.

He, a dignified chief of the West City Law Enforcement Bureau, sent invitations to two newbies, but they didn't react at all. They were just pushing and shoving each other, doing who-knows-what.

"I'm talking to you two about serious business!"

“Yes, please say so.” Milo and the other person stood up again.

Charles beckoned to the two men, leading them a short distance to the edge of the testing area, where he whispered to them in a quiet spot where there weren't many people around:

"Okay, you two give me a clear answer. If you're willing to come to my West City Law Enforcement Office, I'll lower your scores a little right now, but not so ridiculously. You understand what I mean?"

"Why?" Colin's "Why?" was punctuated by a very obvious upward inflection, indicating that he genuinely hadn't grasped Charles's intentions and even seemed a little aggrieved. "I've been preparing for this year's assessment since I was seven, why..." "Changing grades is one thing, but the key is, what's the difference between going to the West City Enforcement Station and going to other enforcement stations?" Milo's eyebrows twitched, his voice equally soft.

Clearly, if Charles was determined to recruit the two of them into the West City Law Enforcement Bureau, given Milo and Colin's current performance, the competition would be too fierce. Other law enforcement departments would also be vying for them, and ultimately, the two might not be able to get into the West City Bureau. This was Charles's true intention.

Charles was very satisfied with Milo's instant understanding. He patted his chest and said confidently:

"In my case, no law enforcement agency can offer better conditions in terms of resources, channels, connections, and career advancement. Most importantly, the western part of Nanwei City has always been under development. Putting aside everything else, it has the most lucrative opportunities in all of Nanwei City. You know what I mean?"

Milo had a smile on his face the whole time.

He gradually realized that there must be a reason why this law enforcement officer dared not wear a mask.

Charles said very bluntly:

"Let me be blunt. You two might be the strongest in this year's class. No, judging by these scores, you two are the most damn fierce in this year's class. Even the graduating students from the Law Enforcement Academy might not be able to achieve these scores. Regardless of your written test level, I don't care about that stuff. Just based on your comprehensive test scores, I'm going to recruit you into the West City. If you agree, I'll lower your scores a bit and report it to them. That way, it'll be easier for me to ask them for people. So, what do you say? You two give me an explanation."

Milo and Colin exchanged a glance.

He could see the obvious resistance in Colin's eyes. This guy was just a bit straightforward, not stupid. He would definitely understand what Charles meant after Milo asked the question.

“Um, Mr. Examiner, it seems someone is looking for you in the back.” Milo poked Charles in the direction behind him with his index finger.

Charles turned around abruptly and saw Rebecca with her hands in her pockets.

She gave Charles a cold look: "You changed your grades, didn't you? I heard everything."

"Who said that? Who said they were going to change the scores?" Charles looked bewildered, flashing the two target papers in his hand at Rebecca. "Change what? They're already 45 and 50 points, there's no room to change them any higher. You must have misheard!"

Such a quick change of expression; Milo had to admire it.

"Then why haven't you sent the report cards up yet?" Rebecca tilted her head, her tone full of sarcasm.

"Okay, you two wait here for me for a bit." Charles coughed twice, then took the report card and slunk away.

Rebecca glanced at Milo and Colin, and said:
"My advice is not to get too close to people like your examiners."

After saying that, he turned and walked towards the reporting area.

……

No sooner had the two chiefs of staff left than Colin grabbed Milo's clothes again:
"50 rings! I've only ever gotten that score once in my life, bro. How did you do that? I don't care, I'm following you from now on. All those self-proclaimed veterans in my family are just trash. They can't even reach half your firing speed. I'm begging you, bro, I'll follow you to whichever law enforcement station you go to, even if it's a secondary law enforcement unit!"

"I……"

Milo took a step back.

Colin held on even tighter, eventually resorting to shameless tactics by clinging to Milo's leg and refusing to let go no matter what.

"You fucking teddy bear, huh? Get the hell out of my way!" Milo couldn't hold back any longer and started cursing.

At this moment, Enid and her group, who had run around the shooting range to see their idol, stood to the side, staring blankly at Milo and Colin.

"What are you doing to our senior with that messy hair?!"

……

...

The teaching building of the Law Enforcement Academy.

The results of all comprehensive exams are being integrated.

From the half-open door of the senior management office in the Human Resources Department, the sound of two chief officers arguing and banging on the table could be heard.

"I want someone from you."

"I want two."

"What do you mean? You're trying to take it from me?!"

"Should I tell them about changing my grades?"

"you shut up!"

"Try pointing at me again?"

"What's wrong with me pointing fingers at you? I'm taking these two from the West City Law Enforcement Station!"

"You don't need any, both of them are mine."

"Your uncle!"

……

"Shut up! What do you think this place is? A vegetable market?! The assessment results haven't even been announced yet and you're already poaching people? Get the hell out of here!!"

Finally, the two chief law enforcement officers were kicked out of the office by the furious HR executives, and left with sour faces.
