Chapter 327 Survivors

Logically, after such a serious case, the law enforcement team's primary task should be to solve the case.

However, due to the presence of the inspection teams, the law enforcement system had to temporarily suspend its work and shift its focus to blocking information and monitoring major newspapers and media outlets.

In the words of the leaders, it is about distinguishing between primary and secondary tasks.

But the truth will eventually come out. Although the news has not yet spread among the general public, since it happened outside the city, it is already widely known within the aristocratic circles and the law enforcement system.

……

"Look how well this was done."

The bodies at the York family estate were finally transferred to law enforcement headquarters in the early hours of the following day.

Milo listened in on all the case details at the South City Police Department; it was all information that Rebecca and old Theon had brought back from headquarters.

The autopsy report revealed that the victims included almost all direct members of the York family, meaning that none of the permanent residents of the estate survived, and that their deaths occurred earlier than the 23 assassinations that took place in the city.

Theon and Milo looked at each other in bewilderment.

"It seems they silenced their partners as soon as they arrived in Nanwei City."

"That at least shows that our investigation is on the right track," Old Theon said, shrugging.

"The crocodile's carcass isn't in there?" Milo asked.

“I went to the site and didn’t find any crocodiles, but there was a puddle of mud in the manor hall.” Old Theon’s sense of smell was still very sharp.

Milo nodded.

If I'm not mistaken, that puddle of mud should be the missing crocodile.

Monquea is a visionary, and he knows that Milo is also a visionary, because everyone has the basic ability to see the dead, so he certainly wouldn't leave Milo with the complete body of someone who knows the truth.

Milo and Theon's original plan was to follow the clues of the York family and, if necessary, use special means to bring down the York family, thus reducing the Hunter Organization's scope of activities within Nanwei City.

But the hunters were far more brutal than they had anticipated; they had already abandoned them after using them.

Ironically, Milo and Theon were still considering the relationship and constraints between the law enforcement system and the aristocratic class.

"That means the side with the lower bottom line is definitely more ruthless."

Milo muttered something to himself.

However, old Theon lowered his voice and reminded him:
"The York family was almost wiped out. Note that it was almost."

Milo's eyes lit up: "So you mean there are still survivors?"

Old Theon nodded: "After comparing and confirming the identities of all the victims, headquarters discovered that the youngest son of the York family was not in that pool; he has gone missing."

"Is it a fish that slipped through the net or..." Milo narrowed his eyes.

“I don’t know, but now the York family only has this one mouth left that can still speak, if he’s still alive,” old Theon said.

“Okay, we know that the hunters entered the interior through the York family’s smuggling route. Now the York family is basically wiped out, except for one… what was his name again?” Milo sorted through the information at hand.

“Michael York,” old Theon replied.

“Michael, huh? That lousy name doesn’t sound like the type to live a long life.” Milo shrugged. “Assuming he’s still alive and on the run, after all these days, his house would be rotting. Where would he be hiding?”

“Let’s think of the worst possible scenario. Is it possible that he’s the one who brought the Hunters organization here, and killing his entire family was part of the plan?” Old Theon’s thinking was always a bit more blunt than others. Milo licked his lips: “It’s not impossible. We’ve seen similar things before, haven’t we?”

“Exactly,” old Theon agreed.

……

They had this conversation in the underground morgue.

There were two other listeners in the room: food critic Rick and bewildered Grasso.

These past few days have been an eye-opener for them. Given their previous identities and social class, they would never have had access to so many secrets. In some ways, the shock they received these past few days was no less than that of the mystical things that can reduce a person's sanity.

The difference between the two is that Rick was at least seriously thinking about it, trying to understand what Milo and Theon were talking about.

Grasso may have been listening attentively for the first few minutes, but later he basically just stared blankly at Milo's profile, his eyes gradually revealing an expression of infatuation...

……

“So the original plan for the patrol team didn’t include solving the case. They only needed to ensure that Nanwei City remained stable until the county council election was over. But after this incident, they should have to adjust their strategic deployment, right?” Milo asked Old Theon.

“You’ve finally caught on.” Old Theon praised Milo’s comprehension by giving him a thumbs-up and flicking ash at him. He continued, “And I heard that the York family’s representative in the county council almost collapsed after receiving the news. He’s now putting immense pressure on the inspection team. I think things might be heading in the direction you’re hoping for. They’re now forced to deal with the hunter organization, otherwise they won’t be able to explain it to the nobility.”

"What does it mean to say that this is the direction I hope for?"

Milo shook his head and scoffed, "Isn't this the real purpose of the inspection team coming to Nanwei City? Even if that's just what they say in name only."

"So where could that York kid have gone?"

It's like finding a needle in a haystack...

...

The chief of the South City Law Enforcement Office was seriously injured, and Old Theon was also wounded. Due to some complicated reasons, Milo was temporarily suspended from his duties, and even most of Milo's seven men were injured.

It can be said that all the few elites in the entire law enforcement agency have been laid off, leaving only a disorganized mess on the front line.

Just as old Theon said, it seems there's nothing that can involve Milo for the time being, so he'd better just stay on leave and not waste his energy worrying about the patrol team's problems.

But those who are unlucky are destined to be involved.

……

The Sherman family estate.

Michael York knelt before Ms. Castor Bean's table without any chivalry, recounting his experiences of the past few days with tears streaming down his face.

Basically, it means that he has no other way out and no one will let him go. He is definitely begging the great, kind and beautiful Castor Lady to provide him with a way to survive.

Michael may be young, but he's quite sharp.

He actually knew that if he went to the law enforcement office to report the case now, the inspection team would make things difficult for him.

There's a good chance that the final script will pin the blame for the massacre of his entire family on him.
