Chapter 282 Making Other Plans
Chapter 282 Making Other Plans
"What the hell are you standing there for? Hold it down!"
Milo shoved Rick aside and shoved the frantically struggling corpse back onto the autopsy table.
Not long after, Asenas's body became completely still.
……
"Holy crap, it really is a soul transfer."
Rick, supporting himself on the table behind him, looked utterly astonished.
"I will never work the night shift alone again."
After confirming that the body was no longer moving, Milo found two straps and secured the body's wrists to both sides of the autopsy table before calmly washing his hands.
"That's fucking scary."
Rick didn't recover for a long time.
Milo taunted him: "Can't you be a little more dignified? You're clearly the scariest monster in this building."
“Hey, you can’t say that. I’m just infected with a virus, and I’m fundamentally different from a monster,” Rick disagreed with Milo’s words.
“I heard you’ve stopped eating bread and beef and spend all your time in the morgue. I’m warning you to watch your step. If anyone discovers that the bodies being transported out of here are missing their testicles, I won’t be protecting you.” Milo washed the sticky bloodstains off his sleeves and trench coat.
"Don't worry, don't worry, I'm very careful in how I do things. I only make very small cuts, and I also find something of the same weight and shape to fill in the wounds. No one will be able to find anything unusual on the body," Rick said, patting his chest.
“I don’t need to know that,” Milo shook his head.
He turned his gaze back to Asenas's body.
It is now almost certain that the real Asenath and David are dead. The sudden movement of the corpses just now was probably David's transferred will. However, the corpses were already decomposed and could not contain the consciousness of a living person, so David should be considered truly dead.
Perhaps when Theon first brought back David, David was the one who controlled the body, but later during the interrogation, Ephraim took control and pushed David out of the body.
……
After figuring out the strange entanglement of this family of three, Milo still wondered why those assassins from the previous night had come.
Even though the truth about the Derby family is out in the open, like Grasso's side, they haven't provoked any special forces. Milo still can't figure out why they were targeted by assassins.
Just to be on the safe side, Rick found two more leather straps and bound Asenath's ankles tightly to the dissection table, muttering, "I'll write the report tonight, and I'd better get rid of this thing first thing tomorrow morning. It's too damn scary. How can a dead person suddenly jump up and bounce around?"
“You,” Milo replied without hesitation.
"Strictly speaking, I'm still a living being; it's just that my lifestyle has changed to some extent," Rick stubbornly insisted.
"Say what you will." Milo waved his hand and walked towards the stairwell.
Rick called out to him from behind, "So, what's your plan for this case?"
"Just write Asenas as a victim who is frequently beaten and abused in the report. I'll throw David upstairs into a mental hospital."
Milo didn't stop, he just gave this simple order.
When I got back to the office, old Theon was already asleep in his chair.
This guy is something else. Even though the law enforcement agency had already approved his leave for recuperation, he still insisted on staying in the office, saying that the office was more comfortable than his doghouse apartment.
Milo yelled at the atrium: "Butch, lock up that guy named Derby downstairs and drag him out. Contact the mental hospital to come to the law enforcement office to pick him up after dark."
This shout woke up old Theon as well.
He rubbed his eyes groggily, and in his hazy state, he reflexively pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it.
Then he turned to Milo and said, "After all that work, you still ended up dumping him in a mental hospital. You should have done it a long time ago."
“What a joke.” Milo shook his head, took his revolver out of his waist, quickly checked the ammunition in the cylinder, and then took three more cylinders out of the drawer and stuffed them into his weapon pouch: “I’m investigating that group of assassins of unknown origin. I don’t want to have to be on guard against sniper shots every time I go out at night. In order to live a few more years, I have to find out the truth about this matter.”
"Oh~"
Old Theon instantly understood Milo's meaning, drawing out an "oh" before taking a drag and exhaling a few smoke rings from his cigarette, then asked Milo:
"Are you planning to use David Derby as bait for a fishing operation?"
"Is this a violation of law enforcement regulations?" Milo asked as he organized the weapons and firearms.
“That’s definitely a violation.” Old Theon nodded, but his tone didn’t show any objection. He even praised him with obvious satisfaction: “I knew I hadn’t misjudged you. You’re not like those rigid, rule-bound idiots. You know, the kid who used to sit behind you was a law-abiding fool. I heard he even fell out with his own brother because of it. If you ask me, in our line of work, you can’t be bound by rules and regulations. In any confrontation, the ultimate winner is the one with the lower bottom line.”
Eric's shadow on the wall was wildly spreading his hands, probably feeling offended.
"You're right, you're right."
Milo knew that if Old Theon, who was usually too lazy to talk nonsense, suddenly became talkative, it must be because he had mixed some kind of magical leaf into his cigarettes.
Milo naturally ignored the nonsense this guy spouted while he was in a euphoric state.
"Slow down your smoking, I have a serious question to ask."
Milo lightly spun the cylinder on his pistol, producing a crisp, pleasant mechanical sound: "In your opinion, what level of skill do those assassins possess?"
“Well-trained.” Old Theon squinted and pointed to his bandaged shoulder. “After all, this is the first bullet I’ve taken in nearly ten years. And you can tell the other side is very disciplined. They retreated immediately after missing their first shot, giving no chance to retaliate. Their objective was clear and their efficiency was high.”
“Have you ever encountered someone like this in your law enforcement career?” Milo asked.
"Yes, there definitely is." Old Theon nodded.
"My dead old father, that retired old scoundrel."
"Ok."
Milo shrugged.
Asking this question is pointless.
He walked to the window and pushed open the tightly closed glass to prevent the old smoker from suffocating himself in the office.
