Chapter 273 Weird
After obtaining Justin Joffrey's home address, Milo immediately sent someone to summon Justin and had someone keep a close eye on David Derby's every move. Meanwhile, he went to the basement and found Rick.

The moment he left the interrogation room, he began an autopsy on Asenas's body.

……

"The decomposition is extremely severe, the internal organs are almost rotten. I suggest you put on a mask, the duty mask won't block the smell."

At the studio entrance, Rick handed Milo a face mask.

The two entered the room.

Milo saw Asenath's shattered face.

Her facial bones had completely collapsed, and the shattered tissue and skin were all dried out.

"The deceased has been preliminarily identified as Arcenas White, aged 29."

Rick walked around the autopsy table, flipping through the victim's file and his own handwriting, and said to Milo, "The cause of death was blunt force trauma. The forensic team found a bloodstained hammer in the manor's cellar. Um—I must mention, the killer was absolutely insane. His wife didn't even have a chance to resist before she died; she was attacked without any warning. After she was completely dead, he continued to smash the body, not just the head, but also the chest and abdomen, which were severely injured. This kind of thing usually only happens in murders committed between enemies. I can't imagine how a marriage could be managed like this..."

Listening to Rick's explanation, Milo stared thoughtfully at the corpse on the autopsy table.

To this day, he has not only failed to figure out David Derby's motive for the murder, but also has no idea what happened during the arrest.

David was in an extremely unstable state in the interrogation room, and nothing he said could be incorporated into his testimony.

However, the two assassinations suggest that there is definitely some connection between David's murder of his wife and Grasso's theft, but Milo has not yet found the key clues.

"Now we can only wait for the testimony of that publishing editor."

Milo glanced at Rick's watch on the table.

At this point, his colleagues should have found Justin and brought him back to the law enforcement office. Why isn't he back yet?

He turned to Rick and asked:

"Besides these documents, were there any other unusual discoveries made on the deceased's body?"

"You should take a look at this."

Rick picked up a metal tweezer and used it to remove a gruesome, rotting piece of tissue from the autopsy site on the deceased's chest.

"The deceased's lungs appear to have undergone some kind of mutation. These are fragments of decaying internal organs, and it's difficult to reconstruct them from their original state before decay. However, I can assure you that this is definitely not normal human lung tissue. A dense membrane of flocculent material has grown inside, like..."

“Like what?” Milo asked.

“Like the gills of an aquatic animal…” Rick said, swallowing hard.

“Gills? You mean those things that only fish have?” Milo squinted.

“I know this sounds absurd, and you probably think I’m talking nonsense, but based on my experience, I’m absolutely right. At the very least, this is definitely not the kind of internal organ tissue that a normal human could have. It’s not tissue for breathing air at all,” Rick explained, speeding up his speech.

"It's okay, please continue, I'm listening."

To Rick's surprise, Milo didn't think he was talking nonsense; instead, he became even more serious.

"You...you think such a creature really exists? I mean...a human who can breathe underwater? This..." Rick's tone was full of self-doubt.

But Milo didn't give a definitive answer, only shaking his head slightly: "Who knows? But you can't stipulate that there can only be one freak like you in this world, right?" "That seems to make sense."

Rick scratched his head, staring at Asenas's corpse on the autopsy table with a puzzled look: "There's another strange thing you should know about."

He pointed to the marks on Asenath's wrist and said, "These marks are very old, probably accumulated over months or years. I think this poor woman may have been imprisoned before she died."

"If that's the case, perhaps we can close it tonight," Milo muttered to himself.

That's true, all the clues point to David Derby as the sadistic wife killer, but Milo knows very well that there's definitely more to the story.

No matter what, old Theon's shot couldn't have been taken for nothing.

He gestured to Eric's shadow on the wall, who nodded and left the interrogation room.

Now that it has been confirmed that the assassins who killed David Derby and Grasso were from the same group, it becomes essential to keep a close eye on Grasso.

……

It wasn't until late at night that Milo's men brought Justin Joffrey back.

The law enforcement officer explained that the address David Derby gave was not Justin's current residence at all. David had left there and moved to the west side of the city several years ago. They had wasted a lot of time knocking on the publisher's door to find out Justin's current address.

“Is that so…” Milo scratched his head.

He glanced back at the tightly closed iron door of the interrogation room, then went straight to the opposite office to meet David's old friend, Justin.

This is a man who appears more mature and composed on the surface.

Perhaps because he served in the military and then worked as a writer after his retirement, he possesses both a strong scholarly temperament and unwavering determination.

He was very polite; even when the person on night duty at the law enforcement station simply handed him a cup of cold tea, he didn't hesitate to say "thank you."

Upon seeing Milo, Justin immediately inquired about David's condition:
"how is he?"

“He’s almost at the point where he’d have to be sent to a mental hospital,” Milo said bluntly.

"Sigh...it shouldn't have turned out this way," Justin sighed.

“Let’s talk about everything you know. You’ve been a long-time friend of the Derbys, haven’t you?” Milo sat down across the table and took out paper and pen from a drawer.

“I am indeed an old acquaintance of David’s, but his wife… to be honest, I’ve never really known Arcenas White. Even after their marriage, I’ve rarely had any contact with her,” Justin said with a wry smile. “Those two are strange. Their marriage seems to be something only between the two of them. Years have passed, and their social circles haven’t even had any contact. I’ve never met Arcenas’s family or friends…”

"You mean their marital relationship isn't harmonious?" Milo twirled the pen in his hand.

“No, they were truly in love at first, at least that’s my personal feeling.” Justin shook his head and said, “It’s just… Asenath, how should I put it, ever since we were in school, she’s never been a sociable person. There have actually been a lot of unfriendly rumors about her.”

“For example?” Milo raised an eyebrow.

Justin looked at Milo:

Have you heard the rumors about the town of Innsmouth?
