Chapter 270 Really?

Shootings are not uncommon in Nanwei City.

However, shootings targeting law enforcement officers are extremely rare; no one dares to cause trouble on law enforcement officers' turf.

This is why the last shooting and stabbing incident that occurred in front of the law enforcement office caused such a great shock.

In urban areas, it is only law enforcement officers who shoot people; there is no tradition of law enforcement officers being shot.

But right now, Milo keenly sensed the hostility of the assassin outside.

The first two shots were fired at extremely tricky angles. If one didn't sense the killing intent, those two bullets would have gone into the heads of Milo and Grasso respectively.

……

What surprised Milo even more was that after the assassin missed twice, there was no further action.

They wisely chose to evacuate.

Because the sound of horses' hooves could already be heard in the streets.

Following the incident at the Confession Wharf, the law enforcement headquarters issued an order for a 24-hour citywide alert. At any street corner and at any time, there were city guards or law enforcement officers watching over the area, ready to react immediately to any disturbance.

However, this incredibly fast reaction time annoyed Milo somewhat.

Because the assassin was scared away.

……

When he rushed out of the bank with his gun, there was no one in sight on the other side of the street.

The assassin had already fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement officers who had quickly gathered nearby chased after the direction Milo had indicated, but unsurprisingly, they found nothing, and Milo didn't bother to join in the fun.

He put away the revolver and glanced back at the several dark gun holes on the bank counter.

There's one thing Milo isn't sure about right now.

"Are they here for me? Or..."

Before he could finish speaking, Milo realized that Grasso was no longer visible inside the bank.

That woman must have slipped away in the chaos.

"Ugh...what a hassle."

Milo spat on the ground.

He never expected that capturing a petty thief who could turn invisible would lead to such a thrilling gunfight.

The key point is that the gunman was clearly not with Grasso either; his bullets were intended to kill both Milo and Grasso.

What does this mean?
……

"Milo, Milo, what happened here?"

The law enforcement officers, who arrived late, dismounted and asked Milo if he was injured. Seeing that Milo was unharmed, they immediately said:
"Old Theon is looking for you everywhere. He caught a madman who killed his wife, but he was shot while bringing the suspect back to the police station. What's going on here?"

"He was attacked too?"

Milo frowned.

Such a coincidence?
“I just caught a petty thief, and then I got attacked… How’s Old Theon? Is no one hurt?” Milo asked.

"He took a bullet for the suspect, and he's at the police station now," his colleague said anxiously.

"Then I'll leave this to you."

Milo's expression changed, he patted the other person on the shoulder, mounted his horse, and quickly headed to the law enforcement office.

……

About fifteen minutes later.

Milo rushed back to the enforcement office and found a desk already set up in the main hall, stationery and papers scattered all over the floor. Old Theon sat at that desk, surrounded by all the enforcement officers. *Gurgle...*

When Milo pushed through the crowd and went in, he saw this reckless old man biting open the cap of a whiskey bottle and gulping it down.

Meanwhile, medical staff were cleaning his wounds.

If the person can still drink alcohol, it means the problem isn't serious.

Milo turned his head and glanced behind the bullet hole in old Theon's shoulder.

The bullet didn't stay inside his body; instead, it pierced through his shoulder muscles, leaving a gruesome, bloody hole in the back of his shoulder.

"Look how unfortunate this is."

Milo muttered something to himself.

Old Theon handed the bottle to Milo, saying with a gloomy expression:

"Damn it, I thought the assassin was after me, and I was planning to grab that kid to take a bullet for me. Who knew the assassin's target was him, and I ended up taking a bullet for him instead? What a load of crap..."

You could tell he was very frustrated and in a lot of pain, the kind of pain that made him grimace.

……

Milo silently gulped down two mouthfuls of whiskey, wiped his mouth with his sleeve, and looked up to ask:

Where is the suspect?

"He's in the interrogation room. The bullet went through Theon's shoulder and grazed him, but it's just a superficial wound, nothing serious. Rick is stitching him up," the medic answered Milo's question while disinfecting Theon's wound.

Milo grinned: "Rick can sew up wounds? Isn't his specialty dissecting corpses...?"

Halfway through his sentence, Milo suddenly remembered that this guy was no longer the normal Rick he used to be, so he quickly handed the bottle back to old Theon and hurried toward the interrogation room.

……

After pushing open the door to the interrogation room, Milo saw Rick intently stitching up the wounds of a suspect whose hands were chained to a table.

The wound was located on the lower right side of the suspect's abdomen and was indeed just a bullet wound.

Milo breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that the suspect's testicles were intact.

"Hey, I heard you almost got shot too?" Rick, holding the thread from the suture needle with tweezers, glanced back at Milo. "Thanks, Golden Tree. It's good to see you're safe and sound."

But his turn aggravated the suspect's wound, causing the man to grimace in pain and yell at Rick, "My God, are you trying to kill me?! Can't you be serious, you bastards! You bunch of barbarians, I told you I didn't kill anyone, why do you have to drag me back here!"

“Mr. Calm down, please calm down. It’s the middle of the night. There’s only one medical staff member on duty. He’s outside treating another law enforcement officer’s wound. I’m not a professional at this, so please be understanding…” Rick’s temper was as good as ever.

Any colleague in the law enforcement office would have slapped a suspect who spouted such arrogant words.

But Rick's kind-hearted tone only emboldened the suspect, who became increasingly aggressive with his insults.
"Barbaric! You're all barbarians! I'm going to appeal! Who are your officers?! Your methods of law enforcement show absolutely no respect for the rights of the people! Ouch...it hurts so much, eat my balls, you useless doctor!"

Rick, holding the tweezers, paused for two seconds, then craned his neck and asked very seriously:

"Uh...really? That's so embarrassing~"

His Adam's apple visibly moved up and down.

Milo: "..."

Given that the only two professional criminal investigation officers in the law enforcement agency were bedridden and the chief officer was still recovering in the hospital, he had to take charge of the overall situation himself.

"Get him done quickly and then get back to the basement, Rick."

"Hey you guys outside, stop freaking surrounding Theon. Damn Butch, get the suspect's information sorted out."

"Let's have another person play the bad cop! I'm going to start the interrogation."
