Chapter 260 Nephrenka
Chapter 260 Neferen Kar
Nanwei Academy.
“Mr. Milos, I don’t understand. The last assignment I submitted to the academy was more than a dozen months ago. The topic of the experiment was also the content that you agreed to assign and distribute, and you have already given a grade. Why do we need to go back and discuss those experimental data now?”
This was Emma's first time returning to the academy after her entrance exams.
Her illness did not allow her to travel between the various departments of the college every day. She was originally on leave of absence with her student status retained, but thanks to her outstanding personal learning ability, she passed the entrance exam and is now a fourth-year student.
However, yesterday she received a notice from the academy that her advisor, Milos, required her to return to the academy at least once, and even offered to lend her the academy's carriage to transport Emma.
……
Milos is an elderly professor, and also an old man full of the gentlemanly air of the last century.
He had long since reached retirement age, but he voluntarily requested to stay in the college's teaching position to continue teaching. According to him, once a person stops working, the knowledge accumulated in their mind will be lost at an unimaginable speed. In a few months, he would become a dull old man who lives on a monthly pension, which is the kind of retirement lifestyle he hates the most.
In the old professor's office.
"First of all, I apologize for my presumptuous request, given that you are still recovering from your illness."
Milos briefly explained the purpose of bringing Emma back to the academy:
"Secondly, the person who actually wanted to discuss the experimental data with you was not me. Please don't blame me for making the decision on my own. I think you should understand how rare it is to have the opportunity to discuss academic issues with a professor from the University of Bleechester. Moreover, this was a request that he made to our institute after he accidentally came across your experimental records."
Milos paused, lowered his head slightly, and looked at Emma from above the frame of his reading glasses, solemnly instructing her:
"It is necessary to clarify beforehand that Mr. Neferen is a senior researcher whose research theories have always been at the forefront of the field of physical chemistry. To tell you the truth, even the dean of Nanwei Academy may not be able to persuade this gentleman to come. Therefore, the academy is paying close attention to this conversation. I hope it will be a friendly, peaceful, and academically sound conversation without any surprises. You are the smartest student I have mentored, and you will surely understand what I mean."
"I……"
Emma was overwhelmed by the barrage of information from her mentor.
She still didn't understand why the coursework she submitted was at the most ordinary student level, and she couldn't understand why the work of a student who hadn't even graduated would be seen by a professor at the University of Bleechester.
She was quite certain that she hadn't done anything particularly outstanding during her two years at the academy, and wasn't even the smartest one as Milos had claimed.
So being suddenly summoned by a strange professor still sounds a bit odd.
“Relax, child. As far as I know, Mr. Nephren is a very easy-going gentleman. He was born into nobility and has superior bloodlines. If you can gain his appreciation, the upper limit of your future academic career will be raised infinitely, which is also something the academy can be very proud of.” Milos poured out those ideas to Emma.
“Okay.” Emma nodded.
She didn't think much about it.
As things stand, the college doesn't seem to have any room for her to refuse.
……
Before long, a man dressed in black arrived at the office door.
He stopped at the door and gently knocked twice on the open office door.
This was a tall, lean man with dark skin, but without any features typical of Black people. He had no beard or hair, and above his thin, upright shoulders was the face of an ancient pharaoh in his youth.
A man with a distinctly exotic air, though his long formal suit made him seem less out of place among his surroundings.
It is worth noting that his coat was ridiculously long, almost covering his heels, to the point that his boots were completely invisible.
I heard that the University of Bleechester is located in the far north of the country, so perhaps this kind of clothing is more popular in that freezing cold region.
……
"Professor Ka, welcome!" The elderly Milos greeted him with a broad smile, spreading his arms wide as if welcoming an old friend he hadn't seen in years.
Of course, this was definitely his first meeting with Nephren.
"Let me introduce you."
"Professor Nephrenka, this is my proudest student, Emma Valrokan. I believe you are already familiar with her shallow and arrogant experimental theories. On behalf of Nanwei Academy, I would like to once again welcome you."
"Hello."
Emma gracefully extended her hand to the other person.
And as Milos said, Nephren was indeed born into noble lineage. He nodded to Emma, and when he shook hands, he only touched the knuckles of Emma's hand.
Milos seemed more excited than anyone else.
As the middleman in this conversation, he was animated, making no attempt to hide his inner emotions:
"To be honest, I feel that choosing to stay and teach at the academy was an absolutely correct decision, otherwise I might have missed this conversation. Gentlemen, please take a seat. Professor Ka, please let me put your coat away, and then we can begin..."
"No need."
However, Nephren showed no intention of removing his coat. He looked calmly at Milos and said in a measured tone, "You may need to excuse yourself, Mr. Milos."
Emma's brow furrowed upon hearing this.
Her doubts deepened at that moment.
But she didn't speak; she simply turned her gaze to Milos.
Knowing Milos as she did, she knew that this stubborn old man valued this meeting with the University of Bleechester so much that he certainly wouldn't be sent away so easily.
However, to Emma's bewilderment, Professor Milos, who had been beaming just a moment ago, now looked at Nephren with a strangely vacant gaze. His expression slowly returned to normal, and after staring blankly at Nephren for a few seconds, he nodded and said:
"Yes, sir."
Milos surprisingly had no objection to this.
Moreover, his response was "yes," not "okay"...
……
...
A strange sense of unease quietly arose deep within Emma's heart.
After Milos left, Nephren paced back and forth twice in what could be described as a luxurious office.
His expression remained calm and still.
However, what he said next sent shockwaves through Emma's heart.
Nephren asked Emma:
"So, have you found the best adsorbent for nitroglycerin?"
