Ke-style law enforcement officers

Chapter 2 Special Perspective

Chapter 2 Special Perspective
Milo is very fast.

While everyone's attention was focused on the church personnel carrying firewood, he rushed into the small hut that reeked of blood.

The two corpses on the ground looked exactly like the scene he had seen in his dream.

But Milo didn't linger too long on the corpse; he began to look around, searching for any possible clues.

After stepping into the cabin, the girl's voice echoed in my mind and became clearer.

He could even clearly hear the girl's broken prayers, choked with sobs.

This is definitely not an illusion.

Milo began searching everywhere he could hide things, such as in the closet and under the bed.

At that moment, the female law enforcement officer outside had also caught up and entered the house.

She placed one hand on the hilt of the knife at her waist and gave Milo a stern warning:

"Watch your behavior, guard!"

"Don't rush." Milo didn't turn around, continuing to search the room on his own.

"You're tampering with the crime scene!" the female law enforcement officer snapped.

But Milo's work didn't stop.

He kept tapping the floor, the corners of the walls, and other places with the short stick in his hand: "Anyway, this place is going to be burned down, isn't it?"

knock knock!

Milo stopped what he was doing when the short stick struck a spot on the wall and made a hollow sound.

He quickly found a gap in the wooden wall panel, and following the direction of the gap, he pushed open a heavy cabinet and discovered a hidden door.

Milo pushed open the hidden door and saw a small storage room.

In a dimly lit corner of the storage room, a little girl of about ten years old was curled up, hugging her knees.

At that moment, the sobbing that had been lingering in Milo's mind entered his ears for the first time as a real sound.

The voice in his mind stopped abruptly the moment he pushed open the hidden door.

"really……"

Milo breathed a sigh of relief.

He breathed a sigh of relief at his own reckless actions, and also at the little girl inside the hidden door.

He put down the short stick in his hand and cautiously reached out his hand towards the timid eyes inside the hidden door:
“Daisy, is that right… Don’t be afraid, it’s alright, we’re not bad people.”

In the series of auditory hallucinations that followed, Milo vaguely caught the girl's name mentioned in her prayer.

And indeed, when Milo called out the girl's name, the wariness and fear in her eyes lessened considerably.

"It's alright now. Shall I take you away from here?"

Milo didn't rush to approach the girl, but instead comforted her and patiently waited for her to come out on her own.

"You...you are sent by the God of Law to save me?" The girl was probably still recovering from what happened last night, and she was talking nonsense.

“I’m a guard around here,” Milo patted his leather jacket. “I think you must have seen me before, or one of my colleagues, right?”

It's hard to imagine how the girl survived the nightmarish ordeal of the previous night. In this cramped, dark storage room, she listened to the sounds of her parents being brutally murdered, constantly remembering their instructions and warnings before they hid her. She desperately suppressed her sobs and prayed to God again and again in her heart...

"It's okay, really, believe me."

Milo tried to soften his voice.

However, just as he was still holding out his hand, waiting for the girl to walk out of the hidden door, he suddenly felt a choke on the back of his neck, and then he was pulled away and pressed to the ground.

It was the female law enforcement officer wearing the tricorn hat.

Milo considered himself to be in pretty good physical condition, but this time, with a woman pinning him down by the shoulders, he had absolutely no chance to struggle. The blood on the floor stained half of his cheek, leaving him speechless.
"What are we doing now?"

"You need to explain everything that just happened. Come back to the law enforcement office with us; we have some questions for you."

The female law enforcement officer's tone left no room for argument.

Milo rolled his eyes: "You mean thank me for just saving an innocent child for you?"

"..."

The female law enforcement officer remained silent. She took handcuffs from her waist, handcuffed Milo's wrists behind her back, and then removed her leg from Milo's waist, pulling Milo up from the ground.

Looking at the disheveled man before her and the heavy weariness between his brows, the female law enforcement officer shook her head: "The overall level of the lower-level guards is getting worse and worse."

In the eyes of most law enforcement officers, the city guards are just idle urban management officers with negligible combat power and virtually zero investigative ability; they are an official position that can be abolished at any time.

Of course, this preconceived notion is not entirely without reason, after all, nine out of ten members of the city's guard team are idle and lazy like Yan.

So, in the female law enforcement officer's eyes, the guy in front of her looked so listless that he must have been drinking at some underground bar last night.

……

At this moment, the church members cloaked in grey cloaks also noticed something amiss, and the leader questioned Milo:
How did you know there was a child hiding inside?

Faced with the group's interrogation-like attitude, Milo simply curled his lip and uttered three words: "You're welcome."

The church members wanted to press for more information, but the female law enforcement officer waved her hand dismissively: "We'll make him explain these issues clearly at the law enforcement office."

"No, he's a key informant in the case, even a suspect. I'm taking him back to the church for questioning!"

"You're overthinking it, sir. The dead are your concern, but the affairs of the living are none of your business. Please do not obstruct official duties." The female law enforcement officer's attitude was extremely firm.

As she said this, her left hand was already resting on the musket at her waist.

Ultimately, this somewhat absurd standoff ended with the church members leaving indignantly.

But Milo wasn't so lucky; he was taken back to the law enforcement office by a group of officers.

As he was being taken away, Yan kept shouting nonsense like "There must be some misunderstanding," but the law enforcement officers selectively ignored him.

Milo, who was handcuffed, seemed relatively calm.

……

Inside the law enforcement office, he was locked in a small cubicle. The empty cubicle contained only a table, two chairs, and a kerosene lamp with its faint yellow light.

"Milo Valrocan".

The female law enforcement officer was still the one having a one-on-one conversation with Milo.

She placed a thin document on the table and said Milo's full name.

“You’re not from this city. You came here five years ago, worked in the alchemy workshop for four years and three months, then passed the test for the city guard and became a day patrolman, a position you hold until now.”

"Want me to tell you something I don't know?" Milo replied casually.

The female law enforcement officer ignored Milo's teasing and continued, "Before this, your information was completely blank. According to the rules, becoming a city guard requires a series of certificates such as birth and education, but you had nothing. How did you pass the review?"

"All you need to do is work hard in the alchemy workshop for four years, and then use the savings you earn to buy a decent necklace as a gift for the boss of the auditing agency...and his woman, that's all you need," Milo answered the question very seriously.

The female law enforcement officer paused, then closed the document in her hand.

"Forget it, I'm not interested in your past. Let's talk about what happened this morning."

She removed the tricorn hat from her head with both hands, but did not remove the black veil that had been covering the lower half of her face. This seemed to be a rule of conduct for law enforcement officers; they could not easily reveal their appearance.

How did you know there was a child hiding in that house?

"How come you didn't notice there was a child hiding in that house?" Milo threw the question back at them.

"Are you questioning the investigative abilities of law enforcement officers?" The female law enforcement officer stared coldly at Milo.

“I do have some reservations about your arrest.” Milo shook the metal shackles on his wrists, making a clinking sound. “You seem unaware of the charges you face. You discovered the girl hiding in the storage room without anyone knowing…” The female officer began to put pressure on Milo.

But Milo shook his head: "I'm the guard of that area. I know exactly who owns every cat on that street. I know that couple has a daughter. This is very unreasonable."

Throughout Milo's speech, the female law enforcement officer's gaze never left his eyes. She was constantly watching the changes in Milo's eyes, and she was absolutely certain that no matter how reasonable Milo's explanation was, he was still hiding something. This was something her years of investigative experience had taught her.

"Do you think such an argument holds water?" she retorted coldly.

"I just don't think your accusations against me are very baseless," Milo could only retort, forcing himself to speak.

There was nothing he could do.

He couldn't very well say that the case was exactly the same as the dream he had yesterday, and that he had hallucinated the girl's prayers before rushing in to save her, could he?

Who would believe that?

……

Perhaps because Milo was too tight-lipped, and the other party couldn't get anything out of him for the time being, the female law enforcement officer simply left Milo there to deal with other important matters first, only leaving him with one sentence before departing:
"I'll give you some time to think it over. I hope you can figure out the pros and cons before we find any other evidence."

And so, Milo was locked in the small dark room for a whole day.

He had no food or drink, and because his wrists were locked to the table, he couldn't even stand up and stretch.

Milo also had a hundred questions in his mind about everything that happened this morning.

Did the dream come true?
The horrific scene at the crime scene was exactly the same as everything he had seen in his dream.

And that strange crying that went on all morning—why could he hear a girl's voice?

It should be noted that the law enforcement officers and church personnel who searched the house did not find the girl. Milo was two streets away from the small dark room, so it was impossible for him to hear the girl's voice.

What exactly is going on?

While the female law enforcement officer's accusations were absurd, she was right about one thing: Milo had to consider his current situation.

His current concern isn't about the charges, but rather another possibility...

Putting aside the dreams and hallucinations, is it possible that the law enforcement officers and the church knew there was a girl hiding in the house and intended to burn her along with all the evidence at the crime scene, but Milo's actions thwarted their plans...?

If that's the case, then the trouble he faces may be much more serious than it appears on the surface.

As he pondered these thoughts, coupled with the dim lighting in the room, his fatigue intensified instantly. He slumped onto the table and soon fell into a deep sleep.

……

It didn't matter that Milo wasn't asleep; he felt that as soon as he closed his eyes, he immediately fell into a new dream.

In a swaying carriage, he saw Daisy, the girl who had almost been burned to death earlier.

The girl curled up in her seat, hugging her knees, and muttered prayers intermittently.

Accompanying her were two law enforcement officers, both masked and equipped with muskets and melee weapons at their waists.

It appears these people are about to send the girl somewhere.

Everyone remained silent throughout the journey.

But this calm did not last long.

With a piercing neigh of a horse, the carriage seemed to be hit from the side by something, causing the rider and horse to overturn.

The officer, sitting on the injured side, had nowhere to dodge and was pierced through the neck by a broken piece of wood.

The gushing blood from the major artery directly stained Milo's entire field of vision.

In the darkness, a large hand snatched Daisy from the ruins of the carriage.

Milo's vision began to be rapidly enveloped by shadows. He knew the dream was about to end, so he tried his best to capture all the valuable information within his field of vision and memorize it.

……

Clearly, Daisy has run into trouble again.

Milo's first reaction upon waking was to quickly call over the female law enforcement officer who had interrogated him earlier. Coincidentally, when he looked up, she was already sitting in her original spot, waiting quietly.

"She can sleep quite a lot."

The female law enforcement officer was holding a pocket watch, and it seemed she had been observing Milo for some time.

Milo glanced at the watch face in the other person's hand and realized that it was already 10 p.m.

It should be noted that he was taken to the law enforcement office in the morning, so he must have slept for quite a long time.

He took a deep breath, wiped the drool from his mouth, and slumped onto the edge of the table as he asked the female officer, "Weren't you eager to find out why I knew this morning that the girl was hiding in the dark room? I think I have a way to convince you now."

The female law enforcement officer ignored Milo's drooling on the table, flicked her finger, and snapped the cover of her pocket watch shut with a "click," signaling Milo to continue.

After gathering his thoughts, Milo spoke:

“In fact, I also know that the girl named Daisy is not in the law enforcement office now. You sent her away, right?”

Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise appeared in the female law enforcement officer's eyes.

"What else do you know?"

She knew very well that Milo hadn't left the small, dark room all day, and had been watched by her colleagues the whole time. It was impossible for Milo to have any contact with anyone outside.

"I also know that two law enforcement officers were traveling with the girl, oh, if you include the coachman, that makes three people. Their melee weapons were a folding axe and a short sword, and their firearms were a standard-issue gunpowder pistol, um..."

Milo paused for a moment, then pointed to his neck and said:
"If these details aren't enough, add the scythe tattoo on the neck of that tall guy, or... his third silver brace from the left of his front teeth, of course, that thing is no longer on his gums."

Listening to Milo's series of descriptions, the female law enforcement officer was already getting restless.

Clearly, she knew that Daisy had been sent away. Moreover, Milo had accurately predicted the tattoo on the enforcer's neck and even the silver tooth in his mouth.

“Oh, so you knew.” Milo keenly caught this information from Daisy’s eyes, and he shrugged: “That makes things easier…”

Before he could finish speaking, the other person grabbed his collar.

How do you know all this?

"Hey, big sister, do you think it's more important to discuss my sources of information now, or to go to the crime scene?" Milo was very calm.

He currently has enough valuable information at his disposal, so he is in a very stable state of mind.

"say clearly!"

The female law enforcement officer swiftly drew her knife from her waist and held it to Milo's neck.

“Wasn’t I clear enough? That silver tooth is no longer in your mouth, he’s dead.” Milo spread his hands again, showing no intention of resisting, and then added, “They were attacked, and the girl has been kidnapped.”

The female law enforcement officer snorted coldly, threw Milo aside, and turned to kick open the door.

Milo then shouted, "Hey, don't you want to know where they had the accident?"

Ignoring Milo's words, the other party shouted towards the door, "Listen up, you idle folks! Search every route from the law enforcement office to the church as quickly as possible!"

So they were going to send the girl to church?
Milo suddenly realized.

But he quickly shook his head again:
"No, no, the carriage isn't on any of the roads to church. You won't find it this way."

Facing the murderous glare on the female law enforcement officer's face as she turned around, Milo remained remarkably calm.

"What else do you know?" the female law enforcement officer questioned.

Milo didn't reveal everything he had seen. Instead, he shook the shackles on his wrists, making a clinking sound, and then poked his temple with his finger: "If I told you everything, wouldn't I be locked up here forever?"

"What do you want?" The female law enforcement officer narrowed her eyes slightly.

Milo curled his lips into a smile:
"I'll take you."
