Ke-style law enforcement officers

Chapter 167 Rare Visitor

Chapter 167 Rare Visitor

After going through so much trouble to find Ethan Field, all they found was a completely degenerated monster. And to make matters worse, he was strangled to death by Shadow less than ten minutes after they met.

Who would believe this if I told them?

Therefore, Milo really couldn't do the job of reporting cases. Since he entered the law enforcement system, not a single case he handled could be properly reported to his superiors. If he told the truth, he would only be regarded as crazy.

……

To Milo's surprise, he had always thought that shadows were something like ghostly projections, the kind of things that could only be seen but not touched.

But what just happened has overturned Milo's concept. It turns out that shadows can interact with things in reality, and Maggie's shadow strangled Ethan Field.

"Sigh~~"

Old Theon took a puff of his cigarette, coughed up a thick wad of phlegm, spat it on the ground, and said to Milo:

"You're right, the dead are under their jurisdiction, that's correct."

Milo was also surprised by Theon's reaction.

This guy is acting too calm.

Even Dillah Shaw, a clergyman, was clearly flustered when he saw Ethan's bizarre death, but old Theon was not.

First of all, it must be made clear that the concept of "demons and monsters" does not exist in the normal worldview of ordinary people. Therefore, as a normal person, one should not have been so calm after witnessing what just happened.

There can only be two explanations for Theon's reaction.

First, he had seen even more outrageous things; second, the special ingredients in his cigarettes made his mind wander to a kind of euphoric state...

But if it's the latter, that doesn't quite make sense either, because his observational skills are very sharp; he quickly noticed the strangeness in Milo's eyes:
"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Don't you find it strange?" Milo asked, tilting his head.

"It's alright. Ever since the hospital and the church both concluded that I have some kind of subtle problem with my brain, I've seen many scenes far more outrageous than what just happened, so umm, you know." Old Theon said, taking another deep drag on his cigarette, the secret room now filled with the smoke he had created.

"For example?" Milo suddenly became interested.

“Have you ever seen the sky collapse on a clear, sunny day? Or woke up in the middle of the night to find yourself soaking in a pool of blood? So, the doctor’s advice for me to retire early isn’t without reason. For a while, these hallucinations frequently appeared before me, which was also the period when I was at my most irritable.” Old Theon shrugged. “So, I feel sorry for those two unlucky pastors at the church.”

"That's why you said the Law Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Department is a filthy quagmire," Milo said thoughtfully.

“Let me put it this way, you heard the nonsense Dillashau just spouted, right? He said those evil tomes would warp people’s minds and turn them into madmen, right? Let me tell you, a law enforcement career is the real evil tome. Immerse yourself in that kind of life for twenty years, and anyone would go crazy,” Old Theon said, pointing to his head.

"You had so many hallucinations before, how could you still continue working?" Milo noticed that there were more than just one or two strange things about the old law enforcement officer in front of him.

“I can tell them apart, I can tell which are real and which are fake,” old Theon shrugged.

“And now?” Milo asked.

“I can’t tell anymore, hehe, but I’m used to it.” Old Theon shook his head and smoked in a nonchalant manner.

Milo suddenly remembered the strange things Old Theon had said these past few days, about something following him...

What he couldn't figure out was what exactly was wrong with Old Theon. If, as he himself claimed, it was a mental breakdown caused by years of immersion in law enforcement and criminal investigation work, then that would be the most plausible explanation. But what if it wasn't...?

……

Soon, Dillashau led a group of gray-robed men into the secret chamber.

Those guys conducted a preliminary examination of Ethan's body, as well as taking samples of bodily fluids, skin, and other substances. Their professionalism was nothing like that of a charlatan; it was more like a team from the law enforcement agency's laboratory.

“We will conduct an autopsy on the body overnight. I think you two have no objections, right?” Dirac asked Milo and old Theon.

“Bringing the body back to the law enforcement station now will only cause us more trouble.”

Milo is familiar with how the law enforcement system works; some things that simply cannot be explained are simply ignored.

If they take the body back, even if he and old Theon had mouths all over their bodies, they wouldn't be able to explain to their superiors that this thing was Ethan Field.

"Then the work here will be handed over to them. I need the two of you to come with me to another place to talk. Reverend Defoe wants to see you."

Dillasho gestured for Milo and the other man to follow.

"I'd like to know, does your previous proposal about information sharing still stand?" Milo suddenly asked.

Ethan Field's sudden death caught everyone off guard.

After all, Dillah Shaw originally intended for the law enforcement agency to help him resolve this problem.

The problem seems to be solved, yet it also seems not to be solved.

“It counts, after all, we still need to continue the investigation, right?” Dirasha adjusted the cuffs of his cloak, carefully checked his clothes for any dirt, and only after confirming everything was in order did he head towards the bottom of the Star Clock Tower, saying as he walked:

"Regarding the clues mentioned earlier, they are currently being kept by Reverend Defoe. I have already reported Ethan's sudden death to him. The remaining matters will be discussed between the two of you and the Reverend."

“Just to confirm, this priest isn’t one of the two you beat up before, is he?” Milo turned to old Theon and asked.

"Hmm... to be honest, I don't have a very deep impression of them." Old Theon poked his forehead with his finger and muttered, "I just told you that I was in a rather chaotic state during that period."

"Don't worry, it's not like that," Dirasha, who was walking in front, replied calmly.

The three of them walked up the stairs to the hall at the bottom of the Star Clock Tower.

As they passed the Golden Tree sculpture, Dirac stopped and performed a simple prayer before leading Milo and old Theon to the back of the temple.

……

An elderly man dressed in a white clerical uniform was sitting at the main office desk.

He wore glasses perched on his high nose bridge. When he noticed someone entering the hall, he lowered his head slightly and looked at Milo and old Theon from above the frames of his glasses.

Upon seeing that the visitor was wearing a black trench coat, he slowly put down his pen and said in a clear voice:

"This is a rare visitor to the Star Clock Tower."
