Chapter 159 Dead People Can Be Talked About

Chapter 159 The Dead Can Talk
Soon, Enid scribbled a bunch of random things on the back of the crumpled note.

"Just to confirm beforehand, I mean, people from your Gus Association should know how to solve these puzzles, right?"

Milo stood to the side, frowning as he looked at what Enid had written.

In his mind, these questions, which cover a wide range of elements including physics, chemistry, geology, and brain teasers, are impossible for a normal person to solve.

“I don’t know if others can solve it, but I can.” Enid handed the finished note to Milo and asked, “So what exactly are you up to?”

"In a way, I was playing tricks."

Milo clutched the note and began looking around, searching for the shadowy figure.

Enid, thinking Milo was counting the stone blocks, said impatiently:
"Don't bother calculating, I can just tell you the answer."

"Shh, don't say anything yet." Milo immediately covered Enid's mouth.

Enid reacted violently, slapping Milo's hand away: "Ugh! What the hell did your hand touch? What does this smell like?!"

"Disinfectant? Alcohol?" Milo sniffed his fingertips and muttered, "Just came out of the morgue."

"Depend on!"

Enid reacted even more violently, frantically wiping her mouth.

At that moment, Milo suddenly saw the shadow of a slender arm appear on his sleeve, slowly spreading to the note in his hand.

The movement was as if the shadow had taken the note from his hand.

Milo remained silent, waiting calmly.

……

A few minutes later, the shadow disappeared from Milo's sleeve and then slowly appeared on the 23rd stone pier on the riverbank.

Milo immediately turned to Enid and asked, "23, the revised answer is 23, right?"

Enid was stunned for several seconds.

"Huh? Uh... How did you figure that out? You actually know the Gus Association's algorithm? That's outrageous, you cramd it in just one night? I remember now, you passed the law enforcement exam the same way, right? Damn, what kind of genes do you have? How come everyone in your family is so smart..."

Milo ignored Enid's astonishment and stared at the shadow on the stone pier that only he could see.

The shadow was nodding at him.

"Is it really Maggie Green?" Milo muttered to himself.

“What, Maggie Green?” Enid waved her hand in front of Milo.

"It's alright, you did a great job. If you rush back now, you can still make it to the last class of the day. I have things to do, so I won't play with you for now."

Milo patted Enid on the head and rushed off to law enforcement headquarters.

Left stranded on the riverbank, Enid violently flailed her arms in frustration.

"Go to hell……"

...

Law enforcement headquarters, morgue.

As soon as Milo pushed open the door, he saw old Theon standing under the kerosene lamp, smoking opium amidst the smell of corpses.

The first thing the latter said to Milo was:
"We found out. The assassin used to be a member of the Fifth Expeditionary Force. He participated in almost all of the major military conflicts most recent in this era, including the expansion in the southeastern seas and the western wars. He has a total of six registered medals of honor, awarded in the name of the Royal Family."

“You mean the J-Woman Medal?” Milo shrugged.

“I mean, this man’s last name is now Solomon.” Old Theon took a deep drag on his cigarette, staring at the cold corpse on the table.

“I’m just curious why Solomon would send someone to kill a student.” Milo didn’t stare at the corpse. After returning to the morgue, he began searching through Joey’s belongings, saying as he searched, “Who knows? The manuscript fragments in the Gus Association were bought back by Ethan Field from the black market. The black market belongs to Solomon. I guess they realized they sold something they shouldn’t have.”

"Then why wait until today to make a move?" Old Theon asked a question that Milo had asked him earlier that day.

“Uh… because I came into contact with Joey yesterday.” Milo pointed to Joey’s corpse.

“So it was to silence him.” Old Theon nodded, then asked, “Did this kid know something he shouldn’t have?”

"Before he was shot through the head, he told me that Ethan Wilder was still alive." Milo didn't intend to hide anything from old Theon and truthfully repeated what Joey had said before he died.

"Are you sure?" Old Theon frowned.

Ethan, like the seven members of the law enforcement agency, disappeared on the night of the Great Library incident. A full year and a half has passed, and old Theon has been investigating, but has not found any clues about the disappearance. He does not believe that Joey can find Ethan's whereabouts.

"Uh……"

Milo hesitated for a moment.

But just then, Maggie's shadow appeared on the wall behind old Theon.

She was nodding at Milo.

Milo raised an eyebrow and simply nodded, saying, "I'm sure."

“That means the Solomon Gang doesn’t want us to find Ethan Field,” Old Theon continued, following the train of thought.

Milo continued, "Because Ethan Field may have possessed fragments of Fenich's manuscript."

“That makes sense, but the dead can’t tell us where Ethan is.” Old Theon shook his head.

Milo raised the corner of his mouth.

No, no, no, dead people can speak.

but……

“I have a question. How long should these two bodies be kept here before they can be buried?” Milo asked old Theon.

"Burial? According to the procedure, there's an autopsy, evidence collection, case classification, and family members signing to claim the body. Hmm... it depends on the situation. The law enforcement office is only responsible for handing the body over to the church's funeral organizers before it starts to decompose." Old Theon felt that Milo's question was a bit nonsensical, but he still answered it seriously.

“That sounds like it’ll take a long time…” Milo scratched his head.

Can the Spying Totem be used if the body is not buried?

Milo himself hadn't actually tried this, but it was probably unlikely to work. The Scarlet Witch had said that whether it was during a nightmare or when the dead were watching, what Milo heard and saw was information accepted by the higher beings. This information required the deceased to spontaneously pray to their god or obtain the god's approval in some form...

Burial is actually a form of "identification".

The golden tree icon engraved on the tombstone is a very important element.

If Milo can't glimpse Joey's spirit in the short term, he'll have to resort to another method.

Joey's information was all given to him by Maggie.

Maggie most likely knows Ethan's whereabouts.

and so……

“Let me ask you another question. Is it possible that you happen to know sign language?” Milo asked old Theon.

Are we discussing the case or just chatting?

Theon was completely unable to keep up with Milo's leaps of thought.
