Chapter 33: Too scared to sleep

Chapter 33: Too scared to sleep (a little bit scary)

"The sleeping task requires starting within five minutes, and the shower task requires starting before 4 a.m. I have plenty of time to complete both tasks."

Han Fei had already made a plan: "First, I'll complete the sleeping task. As required by the task, I can also meet the requirement of staying for three hours while completing the sleeping task. Then I can log off at any time."

"The bathing task requires going to the bathroom. It's difficult to escape if you encounter paranormal events in a confined space. However, I can log off at any time. If I encounter something beyond my tolerance limit, I can just quit."

He didn't accept the task blindly; he considered it carefully.

The newbie protection period has ended, and who knows what the outside world will be like? Rather than risk taking on new missions, it's better to stay in this haunted house and complete the newbie missions.

After all, in order to survive in this room, he had already memorized nearly a hundred pages of case information.

Time passed slowly, and Han Fei busied himself in the room. He turned off all the lights, found the kitchen knife and hid it under the pillow, and then disassembled the mop handle.

To be honest, the kitchen knife was more of a psychological comfort to Han Fei. Even if a neighbor came over for a visit, he wouldn't use the kitchen knife. He would only take out a stick to provoke, or to put it more politely, to invite, when a neighbor passed by and didn't want to come in.

To prevent the security door from being burglarized, Han Fei deliberately did not close it completely, leaving a small gap.

“If the ghost in the haunted house goes crazy, I will run outside. If a strange neighbor comes in and I can’t beat him, I will run to the bedroom at the deepest part of the haunted house.”

Having prepared everything, Han Fei went to the bedroom closest to the living room, where he had done his sleeping mission last time.

"I failed last time because I panicked too much. I was so close to succeeding, but I was too timid. This time, I'm determined to last three hours. Only by completing the sleeping task will I have enough room to work on the shower task later."

Han Fei stared at the digital clock on the wall, constantly giving himself mental cues.

At 12:05, he lay down on the bed in the bedroom, completely covered himself with the blanket, leaving only a crack, and secretly observed the outside.

"During the last sleep mission, the ghost in the bathroom appeared at 2:44 AM."

"I started the mission at 0:05 today. If the ghost appears at 2:44 again, I only need to stall for 21 minutes to complete the mission."

"It's a bit difficult, but not impossible. Compared to last time, I now have an extra passive skill—hide-and-seek. As long as I hide well, my presence will be minimized."

The sleeping mission has begun, and Han Fei is quite confident: "I don't need to be too nervous in the early part. The key to this mission is the last half hour, but I can't let my guard down. The mission description says that the difficulty of the novice mission will increase slightly with each failure. I must be prepared to deal with unexpected situations."

Hiding under the covers, Han Fei gripped the handle of a kitchen knife in one hand and the handle of a mop in the other. His muscles were tense, like a wild leopard in hunting mode, his expression serious and his eyes sharp.

Who would have thought that just a few days ago, he had messy hair, looked utterly hopeless, locked himself in his rented room, and played video games day and night.

It was late at night, and the room became very quiet, with only the ticking of the digital clock.

Han Fei silently calculated the time in his mind, his eyes fixed on the bathroom door lock, his entire attention focused on the bathroom.

But at 12:14, a creaking sound suddenly came from the quiet room.

"The bathroom door lock wasn't touched; the sound was coming from somewhere else!"

In the deathly silent room, every sound was amplified. Han Fei carefully tried to pinpoint the source of the sound, shifting his gaze from the bathroom and moving it little by little.

"That sounded like a door opening? In this haunted house, the only door hinge that's seriously rusted is the one in the innermost bedroom!"

Han Fei's slowly moving gaze stopped at the bedroom door, where he saw half a child's face outside his door.

The child's features were indistinct as he slowly poked his head into the bedroom.

Han Fei held his breath and dared not move.

The child peered into the room for a long time, then dragged his mutilated body past the door of Han Fei's bedroom.

"It's only 12:14 AM, isn't that way too early?"

Han Fei's bedroom only allowed him to see the living room and bathroom, not the bedroom located at the deepest part of the haunted house. He only realized something was coming out of that room after he heard the sound of the door hinges.

"The bedroom at the deepest part of the haunted house is the most dangerous. The sleeping task has changed, and the ghost has appeared earlier. However, there is also good news: the ghost doesn't seem to be interested in me."

The child walked around in the living room and finally sat on the sofa. Han Fei could see the back of the child's head from the bedroom. He was worried that the child's head would suddenly turn 180 degrees and face him.

An uneasy atmosphere filled the room. Han Fei hid under the covers, not daring to even stick out a finger.

"It's okay, just hold on for another two hours or so."

The child sat on the sofa without moving until 12:44 AM. Without warning, a woman with long hair passed by Han Fei's bedroom door and entered the living room.

"again?"

The woman's figure was also somewhat blurry. She picked up the TV remote and silently sat down next to the child.

Looking at the two ghosts on the sofa with their backs to him, Han Fei's hair stood on end. He was afraid if they didn't turn their heads, but he was probably even more afraid if they did.

Time seemed to slow down, and every moment was so unbearable. Ever since those two ghosts sat on the living room sofa, Han Fei's posture had not changed, and he didn't even dare to breathe too hard.

Tick, tick, tick...

The ticking of the electronic clock gradually gave way to other sounds, such as water droplets falling.

At 1:04, the kitchen door was pushed open, and a woman with short hair stood in the doorway with her head down, holding a fruit knife, as if she was looking for something.

At 1:14, the sound of high heels walking could be heard from the deepest bedroom.

At 2:44, the bathroom door lock began to vibrate slightly, and shortly afterward, the door was opened a crack.

And right there in that crack, an eye was watching Han Fei's bedroom.

A pale white arm emerged from the bathroom, and matted black hair clung to the face. The person crawled out of the bathroom and then disappeared from Han Fei's sight in the next moment.

The bedroom temperature was slowly dropping. Han Fei gritted his teeth. He heard the sound of something rubbing against the sheets, and vaguely saw strands of black hair hanging down from the gap in the blanket, as if someone was squatting by the bed, head bowed, preparing to crawl under the blanket.

Han Fei covered his mouth and nose, his eyes fixed on the gap in the blanket. It was already 2:45 a.m., and almost three hours had passed.

The icy feeling pierced his heart and lungs, and Han Fei's face turned purple. Just as he was about to lose control, someone turned on the television in the living room.

A faint, cool light shone into the room, and the chill in the bedroom gradually disappeared.

Han Fei let go of her hand, and when he looked back into the living room, there was another figure on the sofa.
