Chapter 283 Human Stories
Chapter 283 Human Stories (Third Update)
Han Fei pressed the floor button for the second floor, but now the elevator is stopped on the second basement level.
Before the silver-gray elevator doors were fully open, a pale-faced female student appeared at the elevator entrance. She was about to walk inside when she suddenly seemed to see something and her body froze.
Her pupils twitched uneasily in their sockets. The female student stared at a corner of the elevator, then suddenly withdrew her foot and immediately turned and ran into the dark stairwell.
"Why is there a girl on the second basement floor of the security company? She looks very scared. Did something terrible happen to her?"
Without thinking twice, Han Fei rushed out, carrying the spirit altar.
The girl walked in a strange way; one of her legs seemed to have no bones. Han Fei was worried that she was being followed by someone with ill intentions, so he kept following her.
To his surprise, the girl walked faster and faster, and disappeared after turning a corner.
The overhead lights would occasionally flicker, and in the instant they dimmed, something seemed to change subtly in the hallway, but it was impossible to discern exactly what had changed.
Han Fei stood in the middle of the corridor, looking around.
The security company's basement consists of numbered single rooms, resembling either the company's dormitory or a converted underground rental unit.
"Is the guardian deity of Yimin Street living in a place like this?"
The walls were covered in moss, and a chill seeped into his body. Han Fei was about to knock on a relatively clean door to ask the residents when he suddenly noticed that the elevator door behind him was still open.
"Was the elevator waiting for me? Why do I keep feeling like someone's watching me?"
His gaze slowly moved to the surveillance camera in the corner of the wall. He had originally thought it was just for decoration, since it was covered in dust.
Han Fei waved at the surveillance camera and gave a friendly smile, indicating that he had no ill intentions, at least not for the time being.
Perhaps the moral constraints in reality were too strong, and being caught on camera, Han Fei was too embarrassed to break into the house.
He wandered around the second basement level and, finding all the doors locked, returned to the elevator.
Strangely enough, as soon as he entered the elevator, the overload warning light on the elevator panel lit up in red, but it returned to normal after a short while.
The elevator doors slowly closed, and all the number keys on the control panel were lit up.
Just as the silver-gray door was about to close, Han Fei saw a woman's face peek out from around the corner of the stairwell.
A deathly pale expression, trembling eyes, and a face full of terror.
"Oh!"
The moment Han Fei saw the woman's face, he reached his hand to the elevator door and grabbed the heavy door panel.
He touched something, and the elevator doors opened again. Holding the spirit altar, Han Fei rushed straight towards the corner of the stairwell without a second thought.
But by the time he reached the corner, the poor girl had already disappeared.
Was she coerced?
Han Fei couldn't understand why a female student would appear at a security company; judging from her appearance, she seemed to need help.
"That girl is probably hiding a mission."
With a touch of regret, Han Fei looked at the wall beside him. If he could get a cell phone in the Deep World, he could leave his phone number on the wall right now, and slowly close the distance through conversation, giving each other a chance to communicate.
Back in the elevator, Han Fei, holding the spirit altar, stood obediently in the corner.
He didn't know where the elevator would stop; he could only explore slowly in this way.
The numbers on the display screen kept changing, and when the elevator doors opened again, Han Fei had arrived at the fourth basement level.
A cold wind blew into the elevator, and the red "overloaded" sign on the elevator panel lit up again.
Han Fei stared at the empty elevator car, the overload warning in red refusing to disappear.
"Then I'll go?"
After he stepped out of the elevator carrying the altar, the silver-gray elevator doors slowly closed and began to ascend.
"The fact that a security company has so many underground floors is something that deserves serious consideration."
The fourth basement level seemed to be a storage room, and it appeared that no one had been here for a long time. Many doors were unlocked, and the corridors were piled with broken furniture and dusty garbage.
"Do even people in the company rarely come to this floor?"
The hallway was pitch black, with only one light near the elevator. Standing there and looking inside was a little creepy.
As the hissing sound of electricity filled the air, the only remaining light began to flicker.
Frowning, Han Fei turned around and pressed the button outside the elevator, but no matter how many times he pressed it, the button seemed to be broken and did not light up at all.
The sound of button clips clicking and snapping echoed through the hallway, evoking a sense of helplessness.
As the elevator receded further and further away, Han Fei suddenly stopped what he was doing. He smelled a faint scent of blood.
The scent appeared suddenly and then drifted into his nostrils from a distance.
He turned around, just as the overhead light went out, and a somewhat deformed figure appeared at the end of the dark corridor.
Its body was twisted from the fall, its face was completely disfigured, yet it was still rapidly approaching Han Fei.
"what?"
The overhead lights suddenly came on, but the passageway, which was filled with clutter, was empty. Only the smell of blood seemed to have become stronger.
They left a gap in the altar, and Han Fei and the other thing seemed to be waiting for the lights to go out.
The stench of blood in the air was like a claw scratching at one's heart; after a brief moment of light, darkness returned.
In the pitch black, the sound of objects being bumped could be heard. A blurry, deformed human figure moved quickly among the debris, its body covered in terrible wounds.
It's getting closer!
The lights came on, and everything returned to normal, as if the monster seen in the darkness was merely a figment of Han Fei's imagination.
A few seconds later, the lights went out again amidst a hissing sound.
The eerie figure had already climbed to a distance of five or six meters from Han Fei. Han Fei could even clearly see the figure's bloody and mangled face, as well as broken bones piercing the skin.
With terror on his face, Han Fei frantically pressed the broken buttons next to the elevator. Amidst the frantic sounds, the stench of blood filled the air, as if it were creeping up his hair.
Four meters!
Three meters!
Blood-red footprints appeared on the trash, the limping chair was overturned, and when the deformed monster frantically crawled to within two meters of Han Fei, it suddenly stopped.
The bloodied and mangled face stared at Han Fei's back, its cracked head slowly tilting to one side. It suddenly realized that every time the lights went out, a shadow would appear behind the living person in front of it.
The lights at the elevator entrance came back on, dispelling the darkness, but failing to dispel the fear.
The surroundings were extremely quiet. Han Fei's breathing became rapid, and every subtle expression on his face revealed unease and fear.
Han Fei frantically pressed the elevator buttons, but the numbers on the elevator display screen remained unchanged. The fear in Han Fei's expression was gradually escalating, beginning to mix with despair. His sanity was being eroded by unease!
At that moment, the lights went out again.
With a look of utter terror, Han Fei looked in front of him, only to find the monster with a bloody, mangled face standing five meters away.
"Are you going to take this back?"
Han Fei's face still showed the deepest fear, but his hand, hidden behind his back, silently took out a bladeless knife from his inventory.
"Was my acting not good enough? I feel like you're insulting my acting skills?"
