Chapter 1698 The President (Long Chapter, Seeking Monthly Tickets)

Xiluo City

When the last point of light appeared on the map displayed on the television on the wall, the entire square fell silent for a moment.

"Keminda has won!"

This was immediately followed by deafening cheers.

The cheers echoed through the streets and reached the bustling construction site.

"What are those people yelling about outside?" The burly construction worker looked up and glanced behind him. "Is someone handing out money?"

"It seems like Keminda was elected?" The thin construction worker stopped what he was doing and listened quietly.

"Holy crap, he really got elected?" The burly construction worker's eyes widened. "I voted this morning too, so does that mean I was elected?"

“Maybe it was all thanks to your crucial vote,” the lean construction worker said casually as he operated the robot to tidy up the platform, “that Keminda was elected.”

"Alright, I know my own limitations," the burly construction worker laughed as he cleaned up the waste left by the robot. "Speaking of which, I saw you vote this morning too. Who did you vote for?"

“Keminda,” the thin construction worker said casually.

"Hahaha, looks like you've seen that kid's video too," the chubby construction worker continued to laugh.

After laughing, he lowered his head again, quietly looking at the silent city behind him. The fiery red sunset was sinking below the edge of the city skyline, illuminating the old buildings. "Do you think Keminda can really change the Federation?"

“Who knows?” The thin construction worker said, head down, operating the machinery with peace of mind. “We’re just stinking voters, we have nothing. The ones who really decide the direction of this world are those old men sitting on the top floor of the skyscrapers in the city center.”

“That’s true,” the burly construction worker said, turning his gaze back to his work. “It should be finished soon. By the way, did you see that young lad? He should be very happy right now.”

"I don't know, I just saw him run towards the carving area," the thin construction worker continued.

"That kid's been running around everywhere. I wonder if he's finished his work. He only makes this much money from his part-time job, and it's probably almost all gone." The burly construction worker looked up at the carving area in front of him.

Just then, he saw a group of figures in black suits quickly cross the construction site and run towards the carving area.

"Hey, this is really strange. These high and mighty gentlemen are actually coming here." He lowered his head, gathering up the scraps, and clicked his tongue in amazement.

The thin construction worker also looked up, glanced at the running men in black, and looked puzzled.

Sculpture area
"Uncle, Keminda won! Did you see that?!" The young man, his face covered in dust, waved the bracelet on his wrist, turned around, and looked towards the control panel of the engraving machine.

Then he paused slightly, because the middle-aged man in the baseball cap who was operating the engraving machine was now surrounded by a group of men in black.

A young figure, seemingly a secretary, was whispering something in the man's ear.

Upon hearing the whispers, the man simply nodded, his body and face remaining unchanged, as he quietly continued operating the carving machine, carving the final head section of the entire statue.

"Hey, hey," the young man walked to the edge of the men in black, raising his hand and waving it rapidly, "Why are you stopping me? I know that old man."

He shouted, "Uncle! Uncle! What's going on?! Where did these people come from?!"

His shouts finally attracted the attention of the man in the baseball cap who was surrounded by the crowd. The man turned around, looked at him, and nodded slightly.

The men in black around him adjusted their headphones, as if receiving an order. They glanced down at the young man, then stepped aside, creating a path leading directly to the man in the baseball cap.

"Thank you, thank you." The young man glanced at the burly men in black, nodded, and quickly walked along the passageway toward the inner side.

Soon, he walked up to the man in the baseball cap and said excitedly, "Uncle, Keminda has been elected."

“Yes, I understand,” the man in the baseball cap nodded slightly and said softly, “They just came to tell me.”

“Hey, I told you Keminda would be elected,” the young man laughed. “So did you go to vote today?”

“No,” the man in the baseball cap shook his head, looking up at the engraving machine above him. “Today’s task is a bit heavy; I need to finish it as soon as possible.”

"Then you really have a bad idea, otherwise you could have elected your own president." The young man chuckled, looking up at the huge statue in front of him and the carving machine being held up by a robotic arm.

At this very moment, the engraving machine is carving the final part, the eyes.

The image of a piercing, determined, and charismatic young hero is slowly emerging.

"Uncle, your carving is amazing!" The young man stared wide-eyed at the huge statue. "Your technique is incredible."

“My father was a sculptor, and I was a sculptor for a while when I was young,” the man in the baseball cap laughed. “I haven’t done it for so many years, but luckily I haven’t lost my skills.”

"Oh, what a coincidence?" The young man turned around and said cheerfully, "I heard that Keminda's father was also a sculptor. When he was young, he followed in his father's footsteps and worked as a sculptor for a while, but later he was admitted to Dawn University and obtained a double degree in law and mechanical engineering. You and he are really alike."

He remarked with a sigh, "But we're still different from him. Now that he's been elected, he's probably surrounded by Secret Service agents protecting him—"

He paused slightly as he looked at the men in black around him and the young secretary beside him who was giving him strange looks.

He swallowed hard, turned around, and looked again at the man in the baseball cap beside him. "Uncle, you...you wouldn't happen to be..."

He swallowed again. "The president, perhaps?"

“Not yet,” the man in the baseball cap shook his head. At that moment, the last eye was also finished being carved. The mechanical arm of the carving machine moved back, revealing the statue of the young man gazing ahead with a determined look.

He lowered his head, took off his baseball cap, revealing a face covered in a light dust and slightly tanned. Looking at the young man, he smiled and said, "Thank you for helping me campaign."

"Holy crap!" the young man exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise. "You're really Keminda?"

His tongue seemed to be tied in knots, and he didn't know what to say.

“You are very talented and will achieve great things in the future. The Federation will need you,” Keminda smiled, patted the young man’s arm gently, and then handed the remote control in his hand to the person next to him. “I’m afraid I will have a lot of things to do later, so I have to go first.”

The young man opened his mouth, unsure what to say, and could only nod hesitantly, "Okay."

Keminda smiled and said, "Then I'll be going now. See you again sometime."

After saying that, he put his baseball cap back on, turned around and walked to the outside, with the men in black closely following his steps as he began to leave.

It wasn't until the crowd had completely dispersed that the young man came to his senses. He looked at Keminda's retreating figure and shouted, "So, you really are a follower of 'K'?"

The walking figure stopped.

He turned around, looked at the young man, smiled, and nodded. "Yes."

The glow of the setting sun poured down from the sky, falling on the man's baseball cap and the edges of his cheeks, outlining a golden hue.

Then he withdrew his gaze, turned his eyes, and walked towards the direction where the sunlight was setting.

The young man paused for a moment, watching the departing figures, then a slight smile appeared on his face. "Looks like I wasn't wrong after all."

The glow of the setting sun shone on the walking crowds, the working construction workers, and the cheering throngs of people, casting long, golden shadows that seemed to merge together.

"Keminda!" "Keminda!" "Keminda!"

Loud cheers erupted in the street.

The young man listened quietly to the sounds.

He turned around and looked at the huge statue behind him.

The burly and powerful young man stood on the ground like a giant supporting the sky, gazing towards the sun, with the dark night behind him.

He felt that the young hero Loren looked familiar, as if he had seen him at Willens' restaurant.

Willens Star Hospital

"dad!"

The woman pushed open the door to the ward, looked at the man lying in the seat near the door, and quickly walked over.

The man lying on the hospital bed turned his gaze to the woman and said with some surprise, "Riley, what brings you here? Don't you work in Xiluo City?"

“I took the day off,” Riley said with a smile, placing the nutritional supplements on the bedside table and sitting down beside the bed. “There’s not much going on at the company these days. Since you’re being discharged today, I came here to take care of the paperwork.”

“Enjie, your daughter is still the best,” the man on the next bed sat up and sighed. “My brat only knows how to call me for money. It’s been a month, and he hasn’t come to see me once. My biological son is worse than an adopted one—”

At this point, he suddenly realized he had said the wrong thing and quickly shut up.

Enjie glared at him from the side.

“Uncle John,” Riley smiled, looking at the elderly man in the bed next to her, “Are you being discharged today too? Would you like to go through the discharge process together?”

“Haha, no need,” John quickly shook his head. “My health is a bit worse than your dad’s. The doctor said I have to stay for two more days. This hospital is not cheap. I want to enjoy myself for a couple more days. If it weren’t for the fact that Miss bought us the highest amount of full medical insurance, I wouldn’t be able to afford such a high-class ward even if I were sold. And I’m staying here for a month.”

“Miss has been really good to us,” Enjie remarked from the side. “I wonder if she encountered any danger during this attack. She is truly the best employer I have ever met.”

“I don’t know,” John shook his head, but then he seemed to remember something and whispered, “But I heard that the villa doesn’t seem to need security anymore.”

"What do you mean?" Enjie was suddenly taken aback. "Miss isn't hiring us anymore?"

“I don’t know,” John shook his head, “but I heard that we’re going to be transferred to another place.”

"Huh? Isn't it just a direct dismissal? Miss has other businesses? Could it be some particularly dangerous place that's forcing us to resign voluntarily?" Enjie asked, somewhat bewildered. "Don't scare me. At our age, it's hard to find a job anywhere."

“I don’t know,” John shook his head. “I only heard it secondhand.”

“It should be transferred to us.” Riley suddenly chuckled softly, looking at Enja. “Dad, you don’t know, do you? We are actually one employer.”

"Huh?" Enjie's eyes widened again.

“We are all employed by the Anomalous Association. You were just assigned as special security guards to guard 136 Golden Phoenix Avenue,” Riley said softly. “Now that 136 Golden Phoenix Avenue is no longer needed, you have been reassigned to other places. I have already seen that the employer on your contract is the same as mine, the Anomalous Association.”

"Huh?" Enjie was even more confused, and laughed awkwardly, "I never looked at that employer. I've only ever known how to work for the young lady?"

“Riley,” John asked quickly, “so we won’t be fired?”

“No, not at all,” Riley shook her head and smiled. “The Anomalous Association is quite nice.”

"What about Miss?" Enjie asked quickly. "Does Miss no longer need protection? Do you know Miss's whereabouts?"

“I…” Riley paused slightly, then smiled and said, “I’m not quite sure, but I heard that Miss has left and there’s no need to protect that place anymore. However, there might be a few guards left to watch over the mansion.”

“It’s good that Miss is alright,” Enja said with a smile. He looked at Riley and said, “Riley, you should know that Miss is very good to us. She often gives us performance bonuses and occasionally snacks and gifts. She is the best employer we have ever met.”

“That’s right, that’s right…” John chimed in from the side.

The two started chatting, one after the other.

“Hmm.” Riley smiled and watched the two figures, listening quietly without interrupting them.

hum-

Just then, her bracelet vibrated. She looked down and saw that it was Reed calling.

She raised her bracelet, glanced at the two people talking, slowly left the room, and answered the phone, "Hello, Captain, what's the situation?"

“There might be something going on, but it won’t affect your vacation. However, you’ll need to stay in Willens for a while after your vacation to maintain communication between the two sides,” Reed’s voice came through the phone.

"Is it a new, dangerous anomaly? Or has the existing anomaly become more active?" Riley tensed up instantly.

“No, quite the opposite,” Reed said with a hint of doubt. “Recently, not only have there been no new anomalies, but the previous anomalies have become even more ‘peaceful’.”

"'Peaceful'? What does that mean?" Riley was slightly taken aback.

“Based on the information we’ve gathered so far, many anomalies that were easy to trigger in the past have become much harder to trigger, and rules involving life-threatening anomalies have also become extremely difficult to trigger,” Reed sighed. “I don’t know what Loren did, but the anomalies now are hardly associated with danger; they’re more like themed amusement parks.”

“That’s good too,” Riley said with a relieved smile. “At least our work isn’t so dangerous anymore.”

“That’s right,” Reed smiled, “so I need you to stay in Willens for a while to see if all the anomalies in the entire northeast region have become like this.”

“Okay.” Riley nodded gently.

Reed hung up the phone.

The woman turned her head, her gaze passing through the people talking in the ward, through the ward window, and out to the city.

A light layer of snow covered the city's surface, reflecting a shimmering glow.

So, there really is a third way.
