Chapter 1666 Tranquility? (Long chapter, please vote with monthly tickets)
Hearing this, Estella paused slightly, looked down at Heo, and said slowly, "In the Age of Cataclysm, this didn't happen. After the great storm, one day, an anomaly suddenly appeared on this land."

"So what are your responsibilities?" He Ao then asked.

“Responsible for monitoring ‘anomalies’,” Estella said, smiling at Ho. “You should have guessed it?”

“Hmm,” Heo nodded slightly, reaching out to touch the Spear of Vestara behind him. “Was the owner of this spear once one of your companions?”

“Yes,” Estella nodded, “they died in a great operation, and in the end I was the only one who survived.”

She lowered her head, glanced at He Ao, and smiled, "Don't ask what that operation was about, because I don't remember it either, or perhaps I shouldn't remember it. Even if I did, I wouldn't tell you. That knowledge would probably tear your body apart and bring immeasurable consequences."

She withdrew her gaze and sighed softly, "Some things are better left unsaid. Look, I didn't ask you how you survived from the outskirts of Sky City, did I?"

He Ao paused slightly and nodded gently.

He looked up again at the swirling mist and murmured, "Is this mist also something that exists in this wasteland?"

“No,” Estella said casually, “I ‘created’ this.”

"Creation?" He Ao was taken aback.

“From nothing,” Estella continued, seemingly unsurprised by Hoo’s astonishment, “I wanted a seal to exist here, and so the seal exists.”

She paused slightly, "Of course, a little bit of unusual power was used in the process."

Is this Estella's ability? Creating something from nothing? What kind of ability is this?
As he pondered, He Ao raised his head, looking at the thick fog, and said thoughtfully, "Only the abnormal power of the Twilight Wasteland can, to some extent, reinforce the cage that can seal the angel? So you didn't take Vestann out and sealed him somewhere else?"

“That’s one of the reasons,” Estella said slowly. “Level 0 anomalies are indeed more special than other anomalies, and you can gain more power from them, but it’s not necessarily the Twilight Wasteland.”

She glanced at He Ao and continued, "I know you're worried that Vestan has been operating in the Twilight Wasteland for too long and will find a way to escape. Normally, being imprisoned in a different location is the best option."

She withdrew her gaze and sighed softly, "But no matter what I do, I can't bring Vestann out of the Twilight Wasteland. I don't know what he did to bind himself to the Twilight Wasteland, but I can only seal him here on the spot."

"He can't be brought out of the Twilight Wasteland?" He looked at the seal in the mist ahead with a hint of doubt. After a moment's thought, he suddenly asked, "Chairman, when was the last time you saw Vestan? Where was it?"

“A long time ago,” Estella said somewhat vaguely, “the then-chairman of the association told me that he had discovered an angel in the cult of the anomalous, and I followed the clues and found the projection of Vestann.”

She glanced at the surrounding wasteland. "It seems to be in this twilight wasteland as well?"

She raised an eyebrow, turned around, looked at He Ao, and pondered, "You suspect that he himself is confined by this wasteland?"

"Chairman, did you only have one comrade-in-arms back then? Did they all sacrifice themselves on the battlefield?" He Ao asked thoughtfully.

“More than one,” Estella sighed, turning her gaze to Heo. “I know what you’re guessing. My comrades did indeed die in this wasteland, but Vestahn is not one of them. I can confirm that.”

Not a specific one?
He Ao chewed on the word.

In other words, Estella suspects that Vestann is a being born from a mixture of some residual spirit or power.
This also explains part of its uniqueness.

However, if that's the case, it would be quite terrible.

Even if Estella hadn't said anything, Heo could probably guess that their 'major operation' back then was most likely related to anomalies, or even hostile to them, and they paid a heavy price for it.

It would be truly terrible if the spirits of those who perished returned as exceptionally loyal servants.

“Alright,” Estella glanced at the thoughtful Heo, “let’s end our conversation here for today. I’ve given you the information you wanted. When you get back, don’t dwell on what happened today, or you might be corrupted by Vestann.”

"Okay, I understand." He Ao nodded slightly.

The conversation abruptly ended, and it was clear that Estella didn't want to delve deeper into the topic. Judging from her words, understanding and being aware of this information was very dangerous.

When Estella said she 'forgot,' it might not have been a perfunctory excuse or a lie, but rather a way for her to seal away her memories and prevent them from being corrupted.

Of course, there is another very important reason, which is that Estella did not actually 'trust' Ho.

The 'conversation' that Vestain and He just had was actually mostly for Estella's benefit.

Just as neither side in a debate can convince the other, and the only thing they try to convince is the audience, Vestain was actually trying to 'convince' Estella.

Phrases like "Heo left the outer edge of Sky City" and "possesses considerable resistance" all imply to Estella that "Heo is not as simple as he seems."

In fact, Estella most likely knew all of this, and Vestann's actions only reinforced Estella's suspicions about Heo.

Perhaps it was precisely because of this suspicion that Estella chose to let Heo meet with Vestann, hoping to gain some unexpected benefits.

Even the last move by Vestain, which nearly broke through to Heo's side, may not have been entirely due to the situation getting out of control; there might have been an element of Estella wanting to see Heo's reaction.

She wanted to know what He Ao really was—a mortal, or a monster parasitized by some higher being.

If He Ao had displayed his full strength at that time, it would have been quite difficult for him to leave this twilight wasteland.

Of course, in the end, Heo's performance convinced Estella to some extent.

Whether it was He Ao's concern for the Future Building or his tension and fear at the last moment, it was all things that 'Loren' should do.

Of course, the most crucial point is that Heo has not shown any hostility yet. From beginning to end, Heo and the Abnormal Association share some kind of 'purpose'.

So in the end, Estella believed Heo to some extent, and even took the initiative to say, "Don't ask any more questions."

But that's all.

She likely views He Ao as a temporary ally with unknown backers, and has a low level of trust in him.

Giving He Ao these "preferential treatments" was simply to avoid pushing a suspected angelic being to the opposite side during such a tense time.

She won't tell you the most important secret.

Heo glanced at Estella, then turned around and walked back the way he came.

The surrounding space folded and compressed in that instant, and in a flash, He Ao was back in the place he had just been.

Siwei gripped his collar tightly. She couldn't understand a word of the conversation between Heo, Estella, and Vestaen, so she could only hold onto Heo's collar and pretend nothing had happened.

Denorn remained standing in the same spot, quietly waiting for him.

"So you've finished your conversation? And you've met the Archbishop?" Denon looked at Heo and said with a smile.

“Yes,” He Ao nodded slightly, “but the archbishop is a very cunning man. I didn’t get any useful information, but the chairman told me a lot of things.”

“That’s quite rare,” Denon sighed, looking at Heo and smiling. “The chairperson rarely speaks. I haven’t exchanged more than a few words with her since I took office.”

"Does the chairman usually not see anyone?" He Ao was slightly taken aback.

“She spends most of her time ‘resting’ in her apartment, and sometimes it takes several days to get a response to important matters,” Denon shrugged, leading Heo toward the other side of the wasteland. “This time, I was the one who went directly to her place and knocked on the door, which is why we were able to get things moving so quickly.”

"Living a secluded life?" He Ao was slightly taken aback.

He then thought of the way angels disguise themselves as mortals and integrate into the city to maintain their humanity.

He casually remarked, "Maybe the chairman doesn't like this identity and is living in the neighborhood under another identity."

“That possibility cannot be ruled out,” Denon smiled. “It might even be someone we all know.”

He turned his gaze to He Ao, "But since you're here, I have some news. The secret medicine you requested for the entire process of the planner is almost ready to be extracted. Where would you like us to send the secret medicine?"

"So fast?" He Ao was slightly taken aback.

“A whole day and night has passed,” Denon shook his head. “With the complete secret medicine formula, this speed is normal.”

"How about we stay here?" He Ao looked up and glanced at the surrounding wasteland. "Would you mind if I stayed here a little longer?"

"Or should we go to the Fountain of Wisdom?" Denon asked with a smile.

He Ao spent the night at the Fountain of Wisdom yesterday, and he naturally guessed that there were some extra 'benefits' there.

However, he did not explicitly state it, which in effect meant he tacitly approved of He Ao's actions at the Fountain of Wisdom, and could be considered as giving He Ao an extra 'reward'.

He looked at him and smiled slightly, "Yes, the wellspring of wisdom."

“Alright,” Denon looked at Heo, and the two exchanged a glance, reaching a tacit understanding. He looked up at the massive, broken-in-section serpent of Midgard above them. “You know how to get to the Well of Wisdom. Just go directly there. I have to go about my business.”

He pulled a walkie-talkie from his pocket and handed it to He Ao. "I'll contact you once the secret medicine is ready. This walkie-talkie is an unusual item. Through a specific 'base station,' it allows communication across this wasteland regardless of distance. It's a communication item of the Church of the Abnormal."

"You guys are pretty quick." He Ao smiled as he took the walkie-talkie.

“These things need to be handled quickly.” Denon shook his head, waved goodbye to Heo, and turned to leave.

He Ao lowered his head, glanced at the walkie-talkie in his hand, then looked at the sky, and followed the direction the snake's tail pointed, heading into the depths of the wasteland.

“Big guy,” Sisi leaned on his shoulder, somewhat puzzled, “so what exactly are we going to do?”

“That’s the problem,” He Ao said, shaking his head slightly. “I don’t know what to do right now.”

"What do you mean?" Siwei was completely dumbfounded.

"How do you feel about the current situation?" He Ao asked slowly.

“I feel great,” Siwei scratched her head. “That villainous cult was wiped out, even their headquarters were wiped out, and that scary archbishop was arrested. Isn’t that great?”

"But have we found the unusual entrance to the Future Building?" He asked in a low voice.

“It seems like we haven’t found anything,” Sisley said hesitantly, scratching her head. “It seems like we haven’t found any clues about anything at the Future Building.”

“Yes,” He Ao sighed, “that’s the root of the problem. We know there’s a more dangerous object lurking beneath the surface. We can even see its faint outline, but we can’t find it or touch it no matter what we do. It’s as if it’s just a reflection in the water. We can’t see its true form.”

He paused slightly and said softly, "And the water has calmed down, as if to tell us that there is nothing beneath the surface."

“Big guy,” Sisley scratched her head, “I don’t understand anything you’re saying, so we’re not going to find that thing underwater?”

"We should be able to find it. Our problem right now is a lack of information and time," He Ao shook his head slightly. "If we had enough time..."

He turned around and glanced at the enormous pillars and mist that were gradually disappearing into the sky and the world. "I'm afraid we don't have that much time."

If Estella were willing to share more information, he might be able to discover some clues.

However, it is clear that Estella does not fully trust any of the Os, and even if she does, she must consider the fact that her own memories are sealed.

Given enough time, Heo could gradually gain Estella's trust, even to the point of being able to access those sealed memories.

But He Ao had a vague feeling that he might not have much time left.

The unmoving task panel told him that he had not yet discovered the truth behind the unusual activity.

The calm we see now does not signify true peace, but rather is the prelude to an even greater storm.

"Then what should we do?" Siwei grabbed He Ao's collar and asked cautiously.

“Take it one step at a time,” He Ao sighed softly. “We’re still missing a bit of information, or maybe we’re missing more than just information. If we had someone with enough knowledge of the occult to analyze something for us, we might be able to see something different.”

For example, someone with extensive knowledge of mysticism who is willing to believe in their own angels.

He Ao raised his eyes and looked at the character card interface in the system.
