Chapter 4465 The Black Death (2)
Chapter 4465 The Black Death (Part Two)
In the Battlegrounds, at Batman's base.
Batman went inside. The other Batmen were already there, clearly having been waiting for some time. The main universe Batman went up first and shook his hand.
“You’ve worked hard,” he said. “That guy seems to know that it’s no longer feasible in your universe. He’s started infiltrating other universes simultaneously.”
Batman squinted and said, "How could it be so fast?"
“You were too cautious,” Arkham Batman said, arms crossed. “A Martian invasion plot completely thwarted his plan to use family ties to sow discord within the Justice League. It was probably a brilliant plan he had painstakingly devised, which you thwarted so easily. He knew how tough you were, so he decided to pick on an easier target.”
"Who is it?" Batman looked around and asked.
None of the Batmen answered. It looked somewhat like isolation, but of course, Batmen would never do such a thing. Their silence proved that this was indeed not their universe.
At that moment, someone with a rather unusual style stepped out. Bruce put his hands in his pockets and said, "Unfortunately, it is I who am the one."
"You didn't laugh out loud when you heard the news, did you?" Batman asked.
"I managed to hold back," said the Adventurer Batman, a smirk playing on his lips.
Batman looked at Bruce, knowing this was no coincidence. Bruce had likely done something behind the scenes to draw the Black Death's attention to him.
After all, Bruce had been to his universe. The undead controlled by the Black Death Emperor had come into contact with him. He shouldn't have thought of him as an easy target. The current situation could only be due to his deliberate actions.
"Who has been resurrected in your area?" Batman asked directly.
“You’ve hit the nail on the head,” Bruce said, walking to the central platform, grabbing a cup of coffee. “Almost everyone there has a relative who isn’t dead. The only one worth resurrecting has been resurrected before and thrown into the lake. I’d like to know who he intends to resurrect.”
“You’d better take it easy,” said Arkham Batman.
“Right now, our focus is still on your universe,” the main universe Batman said, looking at Batman. “How’s it going there?”
"Not bad. The Justice League is fighting those resurrected undead who call themselves the 'Black Death Day.' At the moment, the most noteworthy members are Atlan and Steppenwolf. The others are not a threat."
“Steppenwolf is no match for Superman. Atlantis has the advantage in the water, but Arthur is constantly fighting him for control. The others are assisting from the sidelines. In the end, they are no match for us either.”
“What you need to be wary of is the internal danger,” the main universe Batman said. “That death power is highly corrupting. He will definitely take advantage of that.”
“I’m naturally prepared,” Batman said. “And you? Do you have any plans?”
“We are searching for the power of life,” Batman the Adventurer said after a moment’s thought. “Since there is the Black Lantern power that represents death, there must also be the White Lantern power that represents life. Batman has already contacted us and provided relevant information. However, how to summon and use it is still under investigation.”
“That’s a problem,” Batman said after thinking for a moment. “If I’m not mistaken, those undead were also wearing rings. That means the power of these rings needs a vessel. The Black Lantern’s power is carried by resurrected undead. What about the White Lantern? There must be some special requirements, right?”
“We are investigating,” the main universe Batman said in a deep voice. “Whoever is ultimately able to use the power of White Lantern, we will help him acquire it.”
"What if he doesn't want to?"
The main universe's Batman shook his head and said, "The requirements of the life force are probably the exact opposite of those of the death force. Therefore, the vessel must not be a truly wicked person. For the safety of the multiverse, he will agree."
"I don't doubt he'll eventually agree. But if he asks for too much..."
“He had no choice,” said the main universe Batman.
When Batman returned to his own universe, the battle between the Justice League and the Black Death Sun was nearing its end. Unsurprisingly, the Justice League held a significant advantage. Atlantis was easily defeated by Superman, losing his first kill. Steppenwolf was also reduced to ashes by the combined attacks of the rest of the Justice League. This time, Dr. Oed and the Allen couple were forced into their undead forms. However, their original forms were far too weak, rendering them even less useful.
However, the aftereffects began to appear after the war. Diana returned to the Justice League base, breathless. She lay on the table, looking very uncomfortable.
As everyone knows, this woman is incredibly strong. Even when facing death, she wouldn't necessarily show any sign of pain. But now she's displaying a degree of vulnerability. Clearly, this isn't just physical pain.
"Find a way...find a way to lock me up," Diana said with some difficulty. "I can no longer stop the invasion of the power of death. But I must not become a monster that harms you. Find a way to lock me up!"
The reason no one has taken action isn't because they don't want to. It's because there's simply nowhere to imprison Diana. Nowhere is safe enough. They can't just throw her into the sea, can they?
Clark grabbed her hand, intending to use his magic to suppress it, but the moment he touched her, he felt a sharp, stabbing pain. He instinctively pulled his hand back. Diana kept shaking her head, saying, "Don't touch me. This thing is already..."
Clark tried to grab her again, but Ron quickly stopped him and said, "Don't touch her. If you get infected, we're finished."
Clark was furious, but dared not take any risks. He paced anxiously around the room. Just then, Barry spoke up, "I think I might also feel... I'm feeling a little unwell..."
Ron was shocked and quickly went to check Barry's hands. He discovered that the lividity on the back of Barry's hand had spread to his arm. And perhaps because he was an ordinary person with a weaker immune system, the lividity was spreading at a visible rate.
“I have to get back into the Speed Force,” Barry said. “Only there will this stuff not spread. The longer I’m out here, the deeper I get corrupted.”
"Won't it spread inside the Speed Force?" Clark asked, his eyes wide. "Then can you bring Diana in?"
Barry paused for a moment, then said, "It seems possible. But most people can't stay in the Speed Force for very long. I've never tried it before, but I'll give it a shot."
After saying that, he grabbed Diana and they disappeared into the flash of lightning. He reappeared quickly and said, "It worked. But we'll probably have to stay inside the Speed Force from now on, or we'll be completely consumed."
“Go quickly,” Ron said. “Leave this to us. Just take care of yourselves.”
Barry nodded and left. The rest of the group remained silent. Then Hal emerged from the portal, and Clark looked at him, asking, "How are you?"
"The battle on Apokolips is very intense. Fortunately, the Lanterns have completely surrounded Apokolips, so Darkseid can't take advantage of the situation."
"I wasn't asking about Apokolips, I was asking about you. Are you alright?"
Hal was taken aback, then asked, "What do you want?"
"Weren't you corrupted before?"
Hal then remembered and asked, "What happened? Did something happen to Diana and the others?"
"Their erosion has suddenly intensified. It must be the work of someone behind it. Are you alright?"
Hal looked at his arm and noticed that the lividity seemed to have deepened somewhat. He said, "Green light energy has a certain restraining effect on black light energy. My progress is a bit slower."
“That’s good,” Clark said with a sigh of relief. “But don’t let your guard down. If there’s any problem, come back immediately.”
Hal nodded and added, "Right now you're probably a thorn in their side, and they'll definitely try to corrupt you. You have to be careful."
After he finished speaking, he glanced at his phone and saw that Schiller was calling him over, so he waved and flew towards Wayne Manor.
This leaves the Justice League without two key members. While Diana and Barry may not be the strongest, they are indispensable. Diana is a powerful frontline attacker. Although her speed power can't provide overwhelming force, she's incredibly skilled in combat, always managing to keep her enemies constantly engaged. Barry is even more crucial. He can use his speed power to help his teammates dodge attacks, providing them with a safety net. With both of them out of the fray, the situation is turning against them.
Just as Clark was about to discuss the next battle plan, another alarm sounded from Nail's side. The Black Sun, which had just been defeated, had returned.
Clark couldn't help but close his eyes for a second. Who could resist that?
Indeed, they didn't find it too difficult to eliminate these people. Arthur was the one who suffered the most, as he had to constantly seize control of the seawater to cooperate with Superman in killing Atlantis. But Superman and Ron still had more than half their strength left, and killing them a few more times wouldn't be a problem.
But the opponent can respawn infinitely, while we only have one life, and once it's corrupted, we can't play at all. How are we supposed to fight like this?
“The key should be the rings,” Arthur thought for a moment and said. “Hal told me that without the rings, Green Lantern wouldn’t be able to directly control Green Lantern energy. Similarly, if we take these guys’ rings off, they shouldn’t be able to be resurrected.”
"What if that Black Death Emperor gave them another one?"
“I’m afraid it’s not that simple,” Clark thought to himself. “If the rings could be mass-produced indefinitely, there would be countless resurrected undead on Earth right now. Even if they weren’t as powerful as Atlantis and Steppenwolves, they would still cause a lot of trouble. Since they aren’t, it means that the rings must have some limitations.”
“I think so,” Arthur said. “Besides, do you remember that these undead appeared first, and then the rings appeared? I’m afraid only undead resurrected by the power of death can wear the rings; living people probably can’t use them.”
"As for that Black Death Emperor, he can't descend directly at all; he can only send some power through the barrier. That power is definitely limited and can't resurrect many people. He already used up a lot of his strength when he resurrected those fake relatives. The plan completely failed, and now that he's thinking of launching a full-scale attack, he's probably in dire straits."
"If we can take the ring, we will definitely be able to weaken some of his power and delay the resurrection of those undead."
Clark nodded and said, "Okay, now we'll figure out how to steal the ring. But be careful not to get it contaminated."
