Chapter 4282 Heroes Strike! (XIV)
Meanwhile, the Bruce duo, who were on the run after stealing a hot potato, bumped into the Superman and Batman duo. Both of these groups had action points, making them incredibly fast runners, so it was quite a coincidence that they ran into each other.
"What are you two doing in such a panic?" Lord Superman asked, frowning.
"Uh, nothing much," Selena cleared her throat. "Are you all alright? What did you find on the spaceship?"
“You don’t need to know,” Lord Superman said. “You’re all acting suspiciously. You’re not going off to steal anything, are you?”
Selena changed the subject: "You don't need to go the way we came from; we've already checked everything inside. Which direction are you planning to go?"
“This is none of your business,” said Lord Superman. “A thief is a thief, always doing sneaky things. I’m not going to be with you.”
He turned and left after saying that. Bruce cursed loudly in the command room. Selena comforted him, saying, "Alright, the organization he built has eradicated all crime on Earth, including theft. I knew he'd hold a grudge against me. Don't bother with him, let's go."
"When did you become so good-tempered?" Bruce asked, somewhat puzzled. "When I accused you of being a thief, you almost gouged my eyeballs out. How come you're so easy to talk to this guy? You don't actually think his uniform looks good, do you?"
Bruce's tone turned slightly sour as he said the last sentence. His jealousy intensified in the next sentence: "Last time Clark came to ask me if he wanted to change the color of his uniform, he must have seen the Lord of Justice's white uniform and thought it looked good, so he wanted to change it too. You guys are completely fooled by his appearance! That guy is a tyrannical despot, not a good person!"
Selena rolled her eyes so hard they almost reached the sky. She said, "You're the one who thinks his uniform looks good, so you're making this argument, right? In my opinion, a normal Superman definitely wouldn't think this white uniform looks good. They prefer bright, colorful things. Otherwise, why would they wear blue clothes and red capes?"
"Besides, when you criticized me, I didn't argue with you verbally. Didn't I take direct action?"
Bruce then realized that although Selena said she was fine, she had actually been following him at a distance after Lord Superman had walked a little further away. Her intentions were obvious.
"What do you think I would do? Rebut him righteously? Say that I was forced to steal because I was poor? That he accused thieves of not caring about the lives of the poor? Come on, I know myself. I didn't become a thief out of desperation. It was because of my exceptional talent and my own passion. Otherwise, I wouldn't steal gems, which are difficult to steal and hard to sell."
“I don’t consider myself a good person. In front of someone who has truly eradicated all crime on earth, I’m in the wrong no matter what I say. But precisely because I’m not a good person, even if I’m in the wrong, I’ll still get angry if he looks down on me. So, I can only vent my anger using the despicable methods that bad people usually use.”
She had barely finished speaking when Lord Superman bumped into Pikachu and Stark, who were scavenging in an igloo. Without a word, he immediately entered the battle, smashing the igloo to pieces with a single punch.
"Damn it!" Stark maneuvered his armor, tracing a smooth arc in the air, glaring angrily at Lord Superman. Lord Superman remained as arrogant as ever, arms crossed, floating in mid-air, lips pursed, saying nothing.
Stark opened his mouth as if to say something, but then he remembered that this was originally a player-versus-player game, and there was nothing wrong with what they were doing, so he had nothing to say. However, Pikachu wasn't going to tolerate this and immediately launched into an East Coast rap, the lyrics of which made Lord Superman frown repeatedly.
Given Lord Superman's personality, he certainly wouldn't shut down his ears, so he chose to punch Pikachu. Pikachu rolled away to dodge, and a lightning bolt struck him instead.
Click!
Lord Superman hadn't intended to dodge; when had he ever been afraid of being struck by lightning? But for a moment, he forgot this was a game, and his Sun Summoning skill had expired, leaving him with only average defense. Pikachu, being so fragile, was undoubtedly a high-damage attacker, and this lightning bolt directly took away almost half of Lord Superman's health.
"hiss……"
Lord Superman gasped and ripped open the door in a flash. Lord Batman said in the command room, "This guy is tough to deal with. I encountered their animal alliance in another instance before; every member has unique skills. Just a few of these little guys took down tens of thousands of siege zombies."
Lord Superman was somewhat skeptical. But Pikachu didn't give him a chance to explain, and one lightning bolt followed another. Lord Superman had to maneuver in mid-air to avoid being struck.
Stark also joined the battle, helping Pikachu fight Lord Superman. It wasn't that they actually had any teammate relationship; mainly, he was more afraid of Pikachu's electricity than Lord Superman's punches. After all, he was currently wearing an old-style mech, and if he got hit by a lightning strike and was destroyed, all the parts he had collected would have been for nothing.
Those with expertise in engineering understand the power of electricity. Even the most sophisticated machinery is essentially destroyed if struck by a powerful electric current. This was one of the reasons I agreed to Pikachu's offer. It's better to have a character who counters him as a teammate than an enemy.
Stark took a deep breath, opened his hand cannon, and fired a series of shots at Lord Superman. Just as Lord Superman swooped down, intending to attack Pikachu in close combat, Stark slammed him against the wall at the edge of the battle area, determined not to let him get close.
Lord Superman did put up a fight, hitting Stark several times, but the guy clearly had high armor, and he couldn't lose any health no matter how much he hit him.
The situation became somewhat delicate. Stark was in the front, and Lord Superman could only throw punches at him, but he couldn't quite break through. Pikachu was attacking from behind, dealing high damage at a fast pace, and Lord Superman was almost killed by it.
With no other option, Superman turned and shoved Stark aside, summoning the sun directly. Stark, blinded by the light, shielded his eyes with his hand and said somewhat helplessly, "Isn't the one hanging in the sky enough?"
This tactic proved more effective than expected, because they were now on a snowfield, surrounded by pure white snow. Anyone with experience surviving in the north knows that snow blindness works by reflecting ultraviolet rays excessively in the snow, causing inflammation and ultimately leading to decreased vision and blurred vision.
It was already a bright, sunny day, and they were starting to experience snow blindness from walking on the snowfield. Then this sun came out again. Although it wasn't as bright as the one in the sky and the ultraviolet radiation wasn't as high, it undoubtedly added another burden to everyone's eyes.
“Good heavens!” Stark exclaimed, “Why didn’t I add a UV filter to this first Jaeger… Oh, wait, I was in Afghanistan. Damn it!”
“Yeah, if you had been tied up in Siberia, you might have remembered to wear a blindfold,” Steve said.
"If I'd been tied up in Siberia, you wouldn't be seeing me today!" Stark said irritably. "Did you expect me to make a mech out of potatoes?"
Actually, Stark wasn't too bad; his original Jaeger didn't have many good long-range attack methods, so he was basically good at close combat. The main problem was that Pikachu was having trouble hitting its target because the sun surrounding Lord Superman was just too dazzling.
And it was at this moment that Selena quietly entered the fray. However, instead of immediately reaching for Lord Superman's pocket, she approached Pikachu, who was standing still and attacking. He seemed to think his position was safe, so he didn't bother to move. For Selena, touching his items was a piece of cake.
She reached out and touched it, initially finding nothing useful, but Pikachu wouldn't budge, allowing her to keep touching it. The magic pocket also came in handy; she collected a whole bunch of items and stuffed them inside, ensuring her backpack never ran out of space. So, after touching and searching, Selena managed to steal Bruce's exclusive equipment badge.
“Wow, what a surprise,” Selena said. “It’s your custom gear, that’s great.”
Bruce was quite pleased, but he quickly said, "Quick, quick, go check their pockets again, there might be some good stuff!"
Stark and Lord Superman were locked in a fierce battle, and Selena dared not approach rashly. However, as expected of the East Side's top thief, she seized an opportunity, darted between the two, and snatched the item directly from Stark's pocket.
But when they took it out, it was just a part. Bruce looked at the part and said, "It looks like it's from his mech. Why don't you try it again?"
Selena waited a while longer, then seized another opportunity to touch it, but it was just another part. She shook her head and said, "No way, Iron Man should be immune to my skills. His inventory is full of parts. Touching too many will take up backpack space, and throwing them out will easily get me noticed. I'd better not."
Bruce nodded. He knew that Stark's skill was the best counter to the thief build. In fact, the key to preventing thieves wasn't catching them, but polluting the card pool. As long as the card pool was full of invalid parts, Selena couldn't keep stealing, and the thieving skill would become ineffective.
As for stealing a bunch of parts to build a mech, that's even more unnecessary. Bruce himself is a war god who can switch between three forms, so this first-generation mech is useless to him. Besides, Stark probably needs some passive skills to use the mech; if he only has the mech but no skills, then the mech would just be a burden.
As for Selena, she doesn't even wear her dress properly, so how can you expect her to put on such a bulky metal shell?
After waiting a while, Selena went to Superman and touched him a couple of times. But clearly, Lord Batman wasn't so careless; he noticed immediately that an item was missing from his inventory and told Lord Batman.
"I knew she was a damn thief!" Lord Superman cursed. "That Bruce was even dating her!"
Lord Batman touched his face.
"Wait a minute," Lord Superman realized, "you dated her too?! God, how could you fall in love with a thief???"
However, they didn't have time to dwell on it, because another item was quickly stolen. Lord Superman was furious; he'd never encountered a thief who could steal anything from him in his entire life.
“Don’t worry,” Lord Batman reassured him. “Since she’s afraid to show herself, it means she can’t take a direct hit. You create an opening for her to exploit, and then you can send her back to the command center.”
Lord Superman thought the plan made sense, so he carried it out. While dodging Stark's attack, he deliberately circled to the side, leaving himself isolated and waiting for Selena to take the bait.
