Chapter 4275 Heroes Strike! (Part 7)
"Our dodge skill cooldown time shouldn't be as short as theirs," Lord Batman calculated in his mind, then said, "It's difficult to avoid all the damage. With a bit of luck, we might survive, but with bad luck, we might have to switch targets."
“Then let’s switch,” said Lord Superman. “I feel your skill set isn’t quite right for fighting monsters. Why don’t you take a look at mine? I’m definitely going to explore this spaceship today.”
Lord Batman nodded without saying much. Lord Superman had always been this radical, and he was used to it.
“We have to win,” Pikachu said. “We’re already down a life. There’s something good in that ship. If we can get our hands on it, it might make up for the difference.”
Peter nodded; he thought so too. Of all these groups, they were probably the only ones with one less life. Pikachu was already fragile, and now with so much less health, it would be easily one-shotted if it came out again. Then its health would be even lower, making it completely unusable. It would create a vicious cycle, and something had to break this disadvantage.
As a veteran gamer who'd been playing video games since childhood, Peter knew perfectly well that Gray Mist and his group had most likely obtained a crucial item. That didn't make sense; if they had a crucial item, why shouldn't he? There must be at least one crucial item hidden in this spaceship. Even if it wasn't his, having it would prevent others from becoming stronger.
Peter rubbed his hands together, eager for a fight. But both he and Lord Batman had rather conservative fighting styles. Peter took a deep breath and fired his web first. He thought he could bait Lord Batman into dodging, but Lord Batman was more cautious and didn't dodge, instead choosing to slice the web apart with his darts.
Peter didn't believe his darts cooled down so quickly, and immediately followed with another Good Neighbor Punch, which Lord Batman dodged as expected. But the instant the dodge was successful, Peter turned around and fired another web.
This time, Lord Batman couldn't avoid it. Lord Superman slammed his fist on the panel, gritting his teeth, and said, "Why isn't there a delay in this guy's card play?"
"This might be one of his skills." Lord Batman's vision was a little blurry. Lord Batman then threw out another dodge card to avoid Peter's punch.
Peter's skills couldn't be chained together, and their cooldowns weren't fast enough. But Lord Batman's dodge cooldowns weren't long either. The battle between the two became turn-based; they played cards together and their cooldowns were synchronized.
“This doesn’t seem like we can win,” said Lord Superman. “If he touches us even once, we’ll get hit with a full combo. Our dodge cooldown is definitely not enough.”
"Don't rush," Lord Batman said calmly. "They definitely have a backup plan. We'll adjust our strategy when they change their attack rhythm. Their commander can't possibly react faster than you."
At that moment, Peter jumped high into the air.
"Our good neighbor is here!"
Lord Superman hurriedly threw down his newly cooled-down dodge card. As a result, Peter landed without throwing a punch. He turned around and gave a sly smile, then jumped high again and punched Lord Batman.
"Damn it!" Lord Superman gritted his teeth and said, "He actually used a basic attack animation to bait out a skill! That skill doesn't even have voice acting! What a cunning kid!"
Lord Batman, of course, also realized that all of Peter's previous preparations were for this one punch.
That's right, there are actually no sound effects when releasing skills. The previous skill voice lines were done by Peter himself. He deliberately shouted after each skill release to make people think that he was about to release a skill. But in reality, the actions and sounds are completely unrelated.
He did all this for this punch. There's no set animation for a basic attack, so he deliberately jumped up like he was using a skill, then shouted out the skill's dialogue. Lord Superman, caught off guard, threw out his dodge card. But the dodge's cooldown was a bit long, so he couldn't dodge Peter's real attack.
Peter's damage wasn't high, but he could perform combos; after one skill hit, the next would follow immediately. Lord Batman was thrown away.
Then came the spiderweb attack, followed by a punch, and then the whirlwind attack. This entire combo was completed within seconds. By the time his dodge card cooled down, Lord Batman's health had been reduced to a dangerous level.
“Use that,” said Lord Batman. “We’re going to replace him sooner or later anyway. There’s no harm in using that skill.”
Lord Superman was a little annoyed, but he still sighed and threw out a card. "Batman's Redemption": "Batman never gives up. Count the number of Bat-equipment used since the start of the game and put them into Batman's belt. The next attack card is replaced with 'Volley of Arrows'."
"Volley of Arrows: Releases all items from the Bat Belt, depleting the lower of your health and sanity. The number of items released is determined by the amount of health depleted. Note: This skill will instantly reduce key stats to zero, so please use it with caution."
As the card was dropped, a flash of red light appeared on Lord Batman's belt. He then leaped into the air, his bat-like cape billowing out, revealing countless weapons—including darts, various melee weapons, and even firearms.
Peter gasped and turned to run. But he was too late; he hadn't escaped the skill's range. Lord Batman deliberately mimicked him, shouting out the skill's name:
"Thousands of arrows fired!"
"Ahhhhh!!!"
After a cloud of dust cleared, the two people standing on the ground transformed into Pikachu and Lord Superman. Lord Superman, with a sour face, said, "Want to fight again?"
Pikachu quickly took two steps back. What's the point of fighting? This Superman isn't the classic version; he looks tough to deal with. Of course, that doesn't mean the classic Superman is easy. But this guy looks incredibly aggressive. He doesn't have much health left; it's best to run.
Pikachu turned and ran. The battle began to settle the score the instant he left the combat area. The winner, of course, was Lord Batman. But looking at the damage numbers, Peter's damage wasn't actually that much lower than his. If it weren't for the final powerful attack that instantly killed Peter, and the fact that Pikachu's escape would have deducted points, he might not have won.
Looking at the huge victory symbol, Lord Superman wasn't in a good mood either. Their original strategy was to save their ultimate move for the most difficult opponent, which now seemed to be that gray mist. However, they hadn't expected the opponent to have area-of-effect armor, rendering the move useless.
Trading his life for Spider-Man's isn't exactly a win. Because, currently, aside from the Gray Fog, Bruce Wayne is probably the strongest. If he could take Bruce's life, it wouldn't be a loss. But Peter's skill set is too shallow, seemingly lacking competitiveness, and it actually reveals all his ultimate abilities. So, it's only a barely acceptable loss.
Gray Fog, standing on the opposite bank, witnessed the fight. When Lord Batman unleashed his ultimate attack, he exclaimed, "Batman's ultimate attack is so cool!"
“Your ultimate move is pretty cool,” Greed said, “but unfortunately, no one can stand a chance against us. We won’t be able to use your ultimate move for now.”
"What do we do now? Who should go down first?"
The three people stood at three different points on the pit, looking at each other, none of them willing to go down first, but they also knew that standing there like idiots was giving the others a chance to develop.
“Forget it, Bruce, let’s go down first,” Selena said. “Anyway, your angel form has a shield. If we can’t win, we can just run away.”
“Well,” Bruce sighed, “those two cowards.”
Seeing Bruce disembark first, Lord Superman followed suit. Gray Mist waited on the shore for a while, and only after seeing them all board the spaceship did it slowly drift down.
Once down, they discovered the spaceship was much larger than it appeared from above, probably several hundred squares in size, about the size of a typical shopping mall. It was nothing like their imagined scenario of going in, grabbing the treasure, and leaving quickly. With such a large map, exploring it would take quite a while.
Gray Mist quickened his pace, preparing to catch up with the two people ahead. He had a premonition that there were monsters along the way that would require teamwork to defeat.
“Here it comes,” said Greed. “My second favorite thing is to unite against the enemy when we are scheming against each other.”
"So, which one is your number one favorite?"
"Intrigue and infighting instead of uniting to fight the enemy."
"I knew it."
“That’s what makes it challenging,” Greed said, spreading his hands. “Think about it, we’re enemies to begin with, and when we’re forced to unite, we’re all harboring our own ulterior motives. Everyone has a bad heart. That’s what makes it exciting.”
"Yes, because no one can be more wicked than you."
The spaceship has a unique style. The entire spaceship is very bright, but a bit too bright. Not only are the lights extremely high wattage, but the floors, walls, and doors are all made of a glass and crystal-like material. Everything is reflecting light; it's practically light pollution.
In fact, overly bright places are not much better than overly dark places; on the contrary, light is more likely to damage the eyes than darkness. Gray Fog saw a countdown timer appear on the status bar: "Blindness: 22 seconds".
"What should I do? Should I close my eyes? Where are my eyes?"
Greed, his eyes stinging from the glaring image, said, "This must be telling us to find the light switch. Let's hurry, find a room first..."
Before he could finish speaking, a roar came from ahead. A black whirlwind then grazed past Gray Mist's scalp. Gray Mist quickly dodged to the side, shouting, "Hey, watch out!"
The person who launched the whirlwind was clearly too busy to pay attention to him. Bruce, who was walking at the front, was the first to step on the landmine; two towering robots appeared at the end of the corridor, immediately triggering a battle.
Selena wasn't one to be underestimated; she reacted swiftly, switching to her Dark Child form and unleashing a whirlwind of dark energy that sent both robots flying. Bruce went in for a basic attack, but after one strike, he exclaimed, "This feels off!"
That's right, his single strike only slashed off a sliver of health. This monster would probably require hundreds of blows to kill.
He looked back, but it was a straight passage with no other branches. In other words, this was the only way to get into the spaceship.
“This is not something I can kill by myself!” Bruce said. “If the two of them hadn’t fought back, we would both be dead here.”
“Let them fight,” Selena said decisively, “we’ll take them both down later!”
Bruce immediately understood Selena's meaning. That's right, if these two were determined to stand back and watch the show, he'd definitely get hammered to death by the robot. Since he was going to die anyway, he might as well drag them down with him.
Bruce ran backwards while unleashing his skills. His primary target was Lord Superman, because he knew that Gray Mist had a damage reflection ability, and entering the combat zone would likely kill everyone instantly. Therefore, he needed to pull Lord Superman in first, even if it meant dying together.
Lord Superman was nearly blown over by the wind. He dodged to the side, about to curse, when he saw the two towering robots. The crucial point was that Bruce was agile and fast-moving, hiding behind him and leaving Superman facing the two robots now.
Lord Superman also triggered the battle. He charged forward and threw a punch, causing the robot to stagger. He then swung his fist and shouted, "No! Let's go!"
