Chess Mage of Faerûn

Chapter 300 Success

Chapter 300 Success
Call ~
I'm still alive, thank you, Lord of Storms!

After checking the vital signs of the two unfortunate souls, Rosen finally breathed a sigh of relief and silently prayed.

It's good that he's not dead! The most urgent tasks are treatment and shifting the blame.

"You five are responsible for taking the other slaves to the Arcane Tower. As for these two guys lying on the ground, Tucker, tell them that their lives are in danger due to the eruption of a latent chronic toxin in their bodies. They need to be sent to the priest for treatment. Once their condition stabilizes, send them there."

"Hey boss, we haven't even had a doctor or priest come to diagnose it yet. How did you figure out it was a chronic poison?"

The young soldier named Tucker was puzzled. He had never heard that the captain was so skilled in medicine and pharmacy.
"Did you see what attacked them? Nothing had happened since the ship arrived at port, but now they suddenly show signs of poisoning."

As Rosen spoke, he stared intently at his subordinates like a hawk: "Then, the only possibility is that the toxins that were already lurking in their bodies have started to take effect."

"Otherwise, it would be the incompetence and dereliction of duty of some of us!"

These words silenced the soldiers. Looking at his men, Rosen snapped, "What are you all standing there for? Get moving!"

"Let me see what your next move is."

Through the perspective of the warplanes in the air, Zhang Yuan calmly observed the enemy's movements.

As the mastermind behind this poisoning incident, he was quite satisfied with the actions of the poison dragons, or rather, with his own micro-management.

Two Netherworld dragons, saturated with diluted venom and cloaked in invisibility, soared through the low sky, resembling two stealth drones carrying viper missiles.

As soon as Rosen's team left the base, they were spotted by a Warhawk reconnaissance aircraft that was patrolling nearby, and the Venom Dragon drones were dispatched to carry out a decapitation strike.

Even with the existence of invisibility, the air currents stirred up by the Netherworld Dragons as they swept through the low sky and the noise they made when casting their skills were obvious weaknesses. It would probably be impossible for them to directly imitate the Stuka and launch a dive bombing attack.

Since the goal is to fish in troubled waters, let's muddy the waters first. The performance that Rosen enjoyed was a grand show put together by Canaan and Maginot. Those who weren't kept in the dark were just pointing fingers at the extras.

While the escort team took a detour, the venomous dragons that had been lurking in the air began to circle and glide. Instead of landing directly on the target's head, they waited until the team was stretched out during the detour and the target's flanks were unobstructed before swooping over the target's left side and revealing their venomous stingers from a distance of more than 20 meters.

Pfft~
Viper Bite Activated!

Two streams of venomous snakes, adjusted and diluted from dark green to light green, were sprayed out and flew rapidly toward their intended target.

Mission accomplished. As the soldiers focused all their attention on the surrounding gang warfare to avoid being caught in the crossfire, no one except a few slaves saw the fleeting green light.

The noise and mana disturbance caused by the skill casting caused the invisibility spell to begin to dissipate, but this was no longer important, as the mage waved his hand to cancel the summoning of the two pieces.

Having finished his own part, it was time to appreciate the other's performance. Just as Zhang Yuan had predicted, the officer in charge of escorting the prisoners did not dare to hand them over to the sorcerer behind the scenes so casually. Instead, he split into two groups, leading half of the guards to carry the two barely breathing bodies back the way they came.

Zhang Yuan watched Rosen and his group of subordinates enter the gate of the garrison they had just left, then stopped paying attention and turned his attention to another team heading towards the arcane zone at the estuary.

From an aerial viewpoint, several soldiers in red robes and armor continued to escort the slaves to the bridgehead, leading them to a tall tower situated in the river delta.

The tower's appearance is extremely bizarre; it can hardly be considered a "tower" in the traditional sense. Rather, it is a grotesque work of art born from the architect's wild and unrestrained inspiration.

This is a tree, a towering tree that stands upright, branches out, and stretches its claws toward the sky.

It did not grow naturally; its body was made of various enchanted bricks and materials. It grows upward along the magnificent and thick trunk, with branches extending in the four directions of east, west, south, and north, which are called the Central Tower. These branches form four towers that stand straight up to the sky, as if they are claws trying to grab the blue sky.

Each secondary tower further branches off, making the mage tower resemble an inverted binary tree piercing the sky, with each branch being an independent space belonging solely to a particular mage.

This is the Arcane Tower, the headquarters of the Arcane Brotherhood, the de facto rulers of Luskan.

It was precisely out of fear of them that the war eagles hovering in the air only dared to watch from afar as the Bloodsail Gang soldiers entered the tower.

This is getting a bit tricky. Things are heading in a direction that Zhang Yuan didn't want to see. The huge Arcane Tower houses the residences and laboratories of at least dozens of spellcasters. How can we identify the mastermind behind this?

Even if it's confirmed, what will the Neverwinter Mage Organization do with this Mage Tower?
Directly attacking such a core area would be no different from starting a full-scale war between two cities, even with its own guiding beacons, the Covenant and the Starcloak able to successfully project power into the heart of Luskan.

So what?
Luskan, the Arcane Brotherhood, and the even older Arcane Tower itself did not survive by chance or the mercy of others.

At this time, Akramgris, the leader of the Arcane Brotherhood and the master of the Arcane Tower, had not yet been driven out by the rebellion, nor had he transformed himself into a lich. He continued to rule and manipulate the city in his own way.

Similarly, Archmage Quel'Thalas, who held the title of Greenfire Wizard and was Akram's most trusted right-hand man, had not yet perished in the rebellion six years later, and was still serving as a powerful figure in the main tower.

With these two powerful figures around, plus the core and basic forces led by the four deputy tower masters, they are not an entity that can be easily provoked.

Unless the entire magical organization of Neverwinter also came out in full force, he did not think they could do anything to the giant tree tower in front of him, but to go all out and venture deep into the enemy territory alone, risking his life.

Such a drastic and resolute action should not be the first choice for mages.

Shaking his head, he stopped speculating about things beyond his comprehension; the important thing now was to further identify the suspect.

The operation must be swift, ideally completed before those two unfortunate poisoned souls are treated and recovered.
