Chess Mage of Faerûn
Chapter 112 Old man
Chapter 112 Old man
"You wretched brats, is this yet another prank you played on old Echinon?"
Eguinon was furious. He was about to stomp the newly filled pit flat, but he hesitated for a moment and turned back to get a shovel.
Carefully digging into the freshly turned soil with a shovel, Eijinon expected to find some prank or even a lump of fresh poop, but instead discovered a hint of golden yellow peeking out from the pit.
This isn't the color of some hot stuff. As a businessman, even if he couldn't recognize his own family, he wouldn't mistake the color of a gold coin.
He tossed aside the shovel and quickly dug out all the gold coins, counting them to find eight in total.
Now Eganon was genuinely puzzled; with his wealth, eight gold coins were nothing.
But why would someone take out eight gold coins just to play a joke on someone, just for a prank?
Even if he were ten times richer, he wouldn't do that. On the contrary, he sincerely hopes that someone will tease him with this golden little cutie every day.
Unable to figure it out, Eganon simply stopped thinking about it, hastily filled in the pit, turned around and went back into the house, chuckling to himself as he went.
"I don't know which brainless idiot was willing to throw gold coins into the ground, which only benefited old Eganon."
Zhang Yuan's face darkened upon hearing this, thinking to himself, "You're really pushing your luck."
With a thought, Shirley, who had already returned the cloak to its rightful owner, quietly slipped out of Zhang Yuan's arms and behind Eganon, suddenly leaping up and slashing at his buttocks.
"Aww~~" The fat merchant jumped up, clutching his butt. As soon as he landed, he turned around sharply, almost stumbling, but he couldn't see anything.
With Shirley's skills, how could she possibly be discovered by an ordinary merchant? She would have already jumped into her master's arms and fawned over him.
Having finished one matter, Zhang Yuan chuckled as he stroked the little demonic pet in his arms, heading towards the town center.
As for what happened after the cloak was returned to its rightful owner? That's another story.
Feeling relaxed, I arrived at the central square and saw the messenger, Maka, on my way to the stone monument standing in front of me.
It was around six o'clock in the afternoon. The summer days were exceptionally long, and the setting sun, nearing dusk, still had to show off its power.
The golden afterglow spilled onto the earth, making the entire square seem as if it were made of gold, so dazzling that pedestrians could hardly open their eyes.
And the one running under the setting sun, delivering the message, was naturally the old man Maka he had found.
He stepped forward and greeted him. It wasn't their first meeting. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Zhang Yuan got straight to the point.
Having easily obtained Kegan's address, Zhang Yuan took his leave and turned to leave, leaving Maca alone, happily savoring the Seren jade wine.
Bang! The wooden door studded with iron rivets was suddenly pushed open by a pair of iron handrails.
Clang! That was the sound of helmets and armor being removed and thrown on the ground.
Ton ton ton, burp~
Thump! The wooden wine glass was slammed heavily onto the table, while the large hand that had committed such an evil deed was busy wiping the wine stains off its owner's beard.
"Damn idiot, incompetent piece of trash, a moron whose brain is even worse than the Los Beast from the underground, and you still dare to withhold my gold coins."
The dwarf Kegan was in a very bad mood, much worse than the injury to his right shoulder.
The dwarf muttered something and adjusted the bandage with his left hand, but it was of little use. The horrific injury on his shoulder couldn't be contained by a mere bandage. Blood stained the bandage, and the seeping blood dripped onto the ground, splashing up little red flowers.
"Kagen, how did you get hurt?"
The dwarf recognized the name and turned around in surprise, only to see the unscrupulous mage standing at his doorstep, peering through the door he had forgotten to close. "Chanem? What are you doing here? Didn't you go back to Baldur's Gate? How did you end up here?"
"Let's not talk about that now. What happened to your shoulder injury? Do you want me to help you treat it?"
Kagan didn't care at all: "What's a little injury? Old Kagan isn't one of those fragile noblewomen. She'll be fine in a little while."
Knowing about Kegan's abnormal constitution, Zhang Yuan didn't ask any more questions. He simply sat down in a chair and silently waited for Kegan to speak.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Yuan adopted such an attitude, making Kaigen somewhat uncomfortable. He scratched his head for a while,
Why don't you keep asking me questions?
"Spit it out, or I'm leaving."
"You heartless bastard, didn't you see old Kegan was injured?" the dwarf muttered discontentedly, fiddling with his empty wine glass.
Zhang Yuan, annoyed, tossed over a wine flask, which Kaigen caught and bit into with his teeth, taking a big bite.
"Hehe, the Pordax beer from Happy Street Performer is potent."
He's a real old hand at drinking; he can tell not only the type of liquor but also which pub sells it.
After taking a few swigs of wine, Kaigen saw Zhang Yuan glaring at him, and awkwardly put down his wine flask to begin recounting the origin of his injuries.
"So you ended up fighting with your temporary teammates? What archaeological discovery? You guys just went tomb raiding!"
Zhang Yuan said, somewhat speechless.
It turns out that a while ago, when Kegan was hanging around the bulletin board in the town center looking for some work, a group of adventurers "coincidentally" saw him and invited him to join an exploration of an ancient tomb.
"What kind of bullshit adventurer are they? I can smell that earthy stench on them from way back." Kagan scoffed.
"Then why are you going with her?"
"I just don't have any other work to do. It's just a matter of chopping up some old cured meat, and I need to sharpen my axe."
The group actually found an undiscovered tomb, but what awaited them was not only burial goods, but also two disturbed ghouls that craved fresh flesh and blood.
This hideous undead creature looks like a rotting, decaying corpse, with its dark brown skin covered in pustules taut against its bones, a few remaining wisps of white hair on its head, and, most terrifyingly, its grotesquely deformed mouth.
It no longer resembled a human mouth. The original teeth had grown wildly under the influence of negative energy and the aura of the dead, becoming jagged and saw-like. The pressure on the gums even tore the original corners of the mouth to near the cheeks, and wisps of foul-smelling saliva kept dripping from them, mixing with the already strong stench of corpses, making the entire tomb seem to be shrouded in a cloud of stench, almost suffocating people.
The adventurer team, who originally just came to excavate an ancient tomb and make some extra money, only imagined undead creatures like skeletons and zombies as their enemies. However, as soon as they opened the tomb's gate, they found two monsters waiting for them.
Fortunately, none of them were complete novices. The adventurers quickly formed an arrow-shaped battle formation, with Kagan, the Shield Guardian, at the forefront.
After all, he was an experienced warrior. Neither the ghoul's sharp teeth and claws nor the toxins and terrible bacteria attached to them could do anything to this tough-looking, well-defended iron can.
"That disgusting monster tried to pounce on me! No one but a pretty dwarf girl can touch my handsome face, so I just shoved my shield in its face and knocked out a few of its teeth! That bastard with no beard dared to bite me! Ouch!"
Kegan spoke animatedly about his heroic battles, but his gesturing abruptly aggravated the wound on his shoulder.
In short, with the cooperation of the entire team, after some twists and turns, they finally managed to defeat the two monsters, and then it was naturally time for the happy harvest.
