Chess Mage of Faerûn

Chapter 100 The Discovery of Tyranitar

Chapter 100 The Discovery of Tyranitar

The surging magical energy within the crystal convinced Tyrantir that this was the power source for the stone golem. However, with one problem solved, many more arose.

The crystal contained only magical energy and had no soul, which confirmed his previous guess that the tiny creature in front of him was not an elemental life form, but a variant of a construct.

If that's the case, could the construct, which doesn't rely on an alchemical reactor, be driven solely by this crystal? Could it be that the spell drive circuit is actually engraved inside the entire body, thus using the entire body as a drive array?
Leaving aside the issue of power, aside from the crystal that serves as the energy source, where is the core of the artificial intelligence's thinking? Tyrandeer simply couldn't understand how this stone golem was controlled and possessed a certain degree of intelligence and autonomous judgment.

However, the Archmage was no pushover. With the situation clearly showing that the green crystal was the key to the problem, Tyrantir decisively conducted various tests and experiments on the crystal.

Charging failed. All four elements—earth, water, fire, and wind—as well as positive and negative energies were tested, but none could be absorbed. It wasn't until the archmage made up his mind and, with the help of the element pool, connected to the magic network and guided the purest magic into the crystal that a reaction occurred. However, the price paid was far too high.

Modification failed. Tyrantir, who had barely managed to charge the crystal, designed and built a new type of reactor to transform it into the core of an alchemical reactor. His intention was to guide out and utilize the original magic power within it. However, the result was unsatisfactory. Less than one-tenth of the magic power was drawn out, and its output power was so low that it was intolerable.

How to describe it? This power is so low that it can't even reach the minimum energy consumption threshold of an alchemical reactor, let alone drive a golem. It can probably only be used to boil water.

Interestingly, while Tyrantir was infusing primal magic, Zhang Yuan, who was engrossed in a pile of books, was startled awake by his system. A notification popped up on the system panel:
"External energy injection into the Auto Chess system has been detected. Administrator, should we accept it? Yes/No"

"Yes!" Although somewhat doubtful, she couldn't resist the unexpected joy.

"A total of 102 energy points have been obtained and have been added to the energy pool."

While someone else was overjoyed, the Grand Master was not so happy.

After paying such a high price and working for so long, all you managed to make was a kettle?

Tyrantil could not swallow this insult.

After several failed attempts to use crystals as an energy core, he began to examine whether his thinking had gone astray and whether it was reasonable to simply use them as an energy device.

Perhaps we could try another approach? Tyrandeer made up her mind.

The archmage removed all the magical circuits and devices required for charging, driving, and other energy input and output; this time, he brought a crystal ball.

The crystal ball continuously emitted and shimmered with a yellow halo, while its interior contained a brownish-yellow, cloud-like, or sand-like, fluid and irregular shape.

Every now and then, the brightness of the crystal ball would fluctuate erratically, emanating a wave of consciousness that seemed like a roar.

This is a Soul-Binding Crystal, which imprisons the soul of an earth giant.

What Tyrantir wants to do now is to extract the soul of the Earth Giant from the Soul-Binding Crystal Ball and transfer it into this green crystal, to see if it can be used as a Soul-Binding Crystal or a mind core.

To maximize its compatibility, he specifically chose the Earth Giant Spirit, a soul with high compatibility.

The results of the experiment left the Grand Master scratching his head in disbelief.

It can't be said that it was a failure. Everything went smoothly in the early stages of the infusion process, and the green crystal seemed to have a good affinity with the soul of the earth giant.

However, after a short period of time, the process could no longer continue. The green crystal was like a box that had been stuffed full, and no matter how hard it was squeezed, nothing more could be put in.

The impatient archmage, in his haste, activated the soul transfer device again. An awkward situation arose: the earth giant's soul couldn't fully enter the crystal, and forced by the transfer device, it also couldn't return to the previous soul-binding crystal.

When the earth giant, stuck in the middle and unable to move forward or backward, was forced to retreat again, the power transmitted from the transmission device grew stronger and stronger until it began to clash with the reaction force of the green crystal.

The earth giant's spirit was twisted and torn apart by this terrifying power, and the remaining part shattered and dissipated. Even the Soul-Binding Crystal exploded, and crystal fragments flew everywhere.

Tyrandeur was unharmed; all the fragments were blocked by an invisible force field, though his complexion was somewhat pale.

He strode up to the green crystal and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that it was unharmed.

This crystal is far more sturdy than the Soul-Binding Crystal, but the fact that it failed to contain the soul still surprised and puzzled the archmage.

Based on his previous deductions and the smooth progress of the initial transmission process, there shouldn't be any problems with its capacity to contain the soul, right?
When Tyrantir picked up the green crystal and placed it in his hand, he discovered that the crystal was filled with mist and fluctuations similar to those found inside the Soul-Binding Crystal Ball.

"This is interesting. Has it been a success, or something else?" the Grand Master muttered to himself.

Just as the Earth Giant's soul entered the crystal, Zhang Yuan, who was mixing the Blazing Glue, received another notification sound. His hand trembled, and he almost knocked over the cauldron in front of him.

Somewhat frustrated, Zhang Yuan had no choice but to suspend the experiment and declare the pot of medicine unusable. Fortunately, it did not cause a fire.

Zhang Yuan opened the message panel and became even more frustrated after taking a look.

"The tiny core crystal of the level one chess piece has lost connection with the auto chess piece system!"

This was the first time Zhang Yuan had lost one of his pieces. Even the last time he lost a piece was just a weapon from the Goblin Tinker. It wasn't exactly heartbreaking, but it wasn't exactly pleasant either.

"It seems that Tyrantir's experiment has made some progress." From this, Zhang Yuan roughly guessed what was going on.

Unfortunately, Tyrandeur was not pleased with these "some progresses" at this time; instead, he was furious.

"What the hell!!!"

The Grand Master looked at the scene displayed on the soul observation instrument and felt extremely angry.

The situation inside the green crystal was clearly displayed on the mirror of the observation instrument. It was clear that there was indeed the soul of a giant earth spirit inside, but unfortunately, its body was incomplete and its overall appearance was blurry, giving the impression that it might dissipate at any moment.

Combined with the fluctuation intensity fed back from the instrument, Tyrantir was certain that what was inside the crystal was merely the remnant soul of that earth giant, and its completeness and strength were probably less than a third of what it was before.

This result was unacceptable to the Grand Master. He had thought he had discovered a new type of gem that could serve as both a power source and a core of thought, but it turned out to be a complete waste, serving neither purpose well.

Its only advantage is probably its hardness, but if that's the case, why not just use diamond?

Tyrande was completely stumped by the crystal before him. Even when he used divination to inquire about its origin and place of origin, he got nothing but a name: Celestial Crystal.
