Days wandering around Hogwarts
Chapter 479 Your Grandfather Was Kidnapped by Me
Chapter 479 Your Grandfather Was Kidnapped by Me
The second round of the tri-wizard competition ended. Although there were some twists and turns, all four contestants rescued their assistants.
During dinner, many students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons looked at Hermione from time to time, as if they saw a monster.
Malfoy was even more excited than Seamus and Cedric. He boasted to Goyle, Crabbe and others as well as Helen of Durmstrang that he would play an important role in the upcoming game. He did not show any sign of his embarrassment when he was almost flooded to his neck in the morning.
Helen just looked at him with a smile, occasionally putting food on his plate.
At the Gryffindor table, everyone was talking about Charles.
Seamus asked him, "How did the examination result today?"
Charles ate a piece of steak and said, "There are two treatments. One has too many side effects, and the other... well... I just found a clue."
"Really?!" Harry on the other side was very happy, "What clue?"
Charles thought it was a bit ridiculous that the clue came from Peeves, and it was even more ridiculous that the clue came from a dream. He thought no one would believe him even if he told them, so he said, "I'll try to look for it tonight."
Harry immediately said, "Let's go to the library and help you find it."
He and several people around him thought that Charles was going to the library to read books, so they nodded.
Charles shook his head and said, "No, you are very tired today, I will trouble you when I can't find it."
It turned out that he was right not to ask others for help.
It was eerily quiet in Hogwarts Castle tonight. Peeves, who usually made trouble, was nowhere to be seen, and the ghosts also ran off to unknown places. Even Filch was surprised.
Charles had no choice but to go back to the dormitory.
Another party was going on in the common room, Ruby was performing aerobatics with Riff on her head, and Piggy was standing on top of Crookshanks, chirping and making different noises, as if he was trying to lift him up.
Charles walked around the edge and returned to the dormitory. Just as he was about to think about what to do next, he found a communication notebook under his pillow that kept ringing.
He has been a little afraid to open this notebook recently. He is a little overwhelmed by so much care and greetings.
But this time the notebook was ringing louder than ever, and Charles had to open it.
Among the special contacts, Jack's column had an urgent message that flashed particularly brightly.
Charles clicked on it and the message was: "Your grandfather Jack Smith has been kidnapped by me. Don't tell anyone. Someone will contact you later."
This piece of news made him stunned for a while, and all kinds of thoughts lingered in his mind.
His first thought was to tell Dumbledore right away, but he quickly changed that thought.
From the information, it can be inferred that the kidnappers have secret sentries around him. If he tells him rashly, he will probably be discovered by the kidnappers and killed.
So we can’t tell the Aurors either. What if they have undercover agents in the Ministry of Magic?
What we need to do now is to calm the kidnappers and prevent them from harming grandpa.
Charles immediately responded: "Who are you and how much do you want to release Grandpa?"
He thought that since he ran a restaurant and a company, he should be very rich in the eyes of outsiders, and kidnapping his grandfather was definitely for money.
The other party quickly replied: "Wait for notification."
Charles sent a few more messages, but received no response from the other party.
He calmed himself down, took out the company's communication notebook, and asked Kitov: "Can you locate a particular communication notebook?"
Kitov replied after ten minutes: "It will take a lot of messages from the notebook to determine the approximate location."
Charles looked at the chat history with Jack and asked, "What if a message was sent three hours ago and another one was sent just now?"
Kitov responded: “That’s a little difficult.”
Charles sighed. Just as he was feeling distressed, Kitov said, "Moss recently discovered a security vulnerability in the notebook. We estimate that we can use some means to control the notebook to send messages."
This is good news. Charles immediately said, "Don't tell anyone what I'm going to tell you next. Just let reliable people know."
"Someone has been kidnapped, and the kidnapper used his communication notebook to contact the hostage's family." Kitov replied immediately: "I see, we will study it right away and notify you as soon as there is news."
Charles replied with an "OK" and lay down on the bed, wondering if anyone could help.
He suddenly thought of an absolutely reliable helper, so he stood up and continued searching in the castle.
Ghosts can leave the castle and pass through walls.
Charles thought that if the company could determine the approximate location and ask the ghosts to look for it, and immediately notify Dumbledore or the Aurors without giving the sentries time to react, he should be able to rescue his grandfather.
But the castle was just as empty as before, without a single ghost to be seen.
"Hate!"
"Humph, we are all ghosts, why do you all look down on me and won't let me attend the meeting!"
Charles forgot Myrtle's bathroom and heard Myrtle's angry voice coming from inside when he passed by.
He knocked on the door and walked into the bathroom, where he saw Myrtle sitting on a sink.
"Good evening." Charles greeted politely, "Can we chat for a few minutes?"
When Myrtle saw that it was Charles, she flew up and asked, "Are you going to ask me to be your partner for the Christmas ball?"
Charles didn't know what a Christmas ball was, and now was not the time to get involved, so he asked, "Excuse me, do you know where Nick is?"
Myrtle said angrily, "Humph, he is always so arrogant, he deserves to have a piece of skin attached to his neck and can't join the Headless Knight."
"Where else could he be? He's in the dungeons with the other ghosts and Peeves, talking about something."
Charles had forgotten where the dungeon was, so he asked, "Excuse me, could you take me to the dungeon?"
Myrtle said grimly, "I don't want to go there."
After she finished speaking, she flew into the ceiling and left.
Charles had no choice but to go to the basement of the castle to look for the dungeon by himself.
When he passed the kitchen door, he met a senior Slytherin student. After some questioning, he finally found out the location of the dungeon.
There was a ghost on guard at the entrance to the dungeon, and when he saw Charles, he immediately crawled into the wall.
Charles was about to raise his hand to greet him, but had to give up.
The dungeon was very lively, with a group of ghosts surrounding Peeves, seemingly discussing something intensely. It suddenly became quiet when Charles arrived.
Charles saw Peeves was here too, so he put aside the idea of restoring his memory and other things. When he saw Nick coming over, he immediately shouted, "Nick, I need your help."
Nick floated over and asked curiously, "What's the matter?"
Charles whispered to him, "My grandfather has been kidnapped, and I would like to trouble you to find where he is being held."
Nick held his head in his hands and shook his head vigorously to refuse: "Your grandfather must have his reasons for kidnapping others. We dare not ruin his good deeds."
Charles immediately pointed out his mistake: "Someone kidnapped my grandfather, not my grandfather kidnapping others."
Nick said seriously: "On the surface they are different, but in fact they are the same thing."
Charles stopped nagging about it after hearing what he said and continued, "The kidnappers contacted me using my grandfather's communication notebook. The company is preparing to locate the location. I would like you and other ghosts to search for clues there when the location is known, and then notify Professor Dumbledore or the Aurors immediately."
"Besides, the kidnappers have sentries in the castle and won't let me tell anyone else. I don't think you will be recruited by the kidnappers."
Nick thought about it and thought that this might be someone's special way of playing, so he said: "I can help you contact the Headless Knights, they will definitely be happy to do it."
Charles immediately said, "Thank you, I will let you know when there is news."
He was relieved that the ghosts were willing to help.
Peeves had been floating nearby, and when the man and the ghost had finished talking, he said to Charles, "Come with me now, boy. I'll take you to a place that I think is the kidnapper's target."
