Chapter 1001: Setting up a stall
After taking the little guy for a walk, Shi Jia coaxed him to take a nap. Once he was sound asleep, Shi Jia went out to pack her luggage.
The boxes were unpacked one by one, and pots, pans, clothes, blankets, and other items were put away. Small, frequently used items, such as scissors, nail clippers, and sewing kits, were packed into boxes and placed in suitable locations.
Speaking of needles and thread, Shi Jia only discovered that morning that there was an old-fashioned sewing machine in the house. She checked it and found it to be well-maintained, suggesting that the previous owner used it frequently.
Jiang Meiyue didn't remember having the skill of using a sewing machine, but Shi Jia did some research and thought she probably did.
So she decided to buy some fabric and make a sofa cover. That way, she wouldn't have to worry about accidentally getting the sofa dirty in the future.
After a busy afternoon, all the luggage brought from Lucheng was packed and arranged, and the cardboard boxes were neatly stacked on the balcony that serves as the entrance.
When the little guy woke up, Shi Jia was mopping the floor.
The little one stood at the doorway, looked around the living room with a slightly confused expression, rubbed his eyes, and asked with his mouth slightly open, "Mommy, why did you sneak up to do chores?"
Shi Jia was taken aback for a moment, then laughed out loud, "Oh, Mom can't sleep. Look, Mom has packed all the luggage, and the living room looks much more spacious now, right?"
The little one nodded, pouting, "But, Mom, I didn't help at all!"
Shi Jia immediately softened completely, "It's okay, Xingxing can help again next time, alright?"
"Okay!" The little guy was still a bit reluctant.
"Oh dear, the trash bags haven't been put on yet, Xingxing, can you help me?" Shi Jia immediately said, pretending to be anxious.
Upon hearing this, the little one's eyes lit up, and he nodded vigorously, "Mom, I can help."
"Okay, the trash bag is in the first TV cabinet on the left. Thanks, Xingxing." Shi Jia pointed to the TV cabinet.
The little guy toddled over to the TV cabinet, pulled open the drawer, and sure enough, saw several rolls of garbage bags. He picked up a roll, grabbed the outermost corner, and lifted it up, causing the garbage bag roll to tumble inside the drawer.
The little guy spotted the break and immediately stopped, grabbed both ends of the break, and pulled hard.
Unsurprisingly, the little guy fell on his bottom because he used too much force.
Shi Jia, who had been watching intently, finally withdrew her gaze with satisfaction, feeling a sense of "I knew it."
The little guy didn't cry when he fell. He picked up the trash bag, stuck out his bottom, stood up, and walked to the trash can.
When the little guy finally managed to put the trash bag on by himself after a lot of effort, enthusiastic applause rang out. "Wow! Xingxing is amazing! He can put the trash bag on by himself!"
The little guy was incredibly proud.
After playing with the little one for a while, it was time to make dinner.
Because she was practicing making noodles, Shi Jia didn't cook dinner. As for vegetables, she just steamed an egg for the little one and made a stir-fry of celery, carrots, and minced meat as a topping for the noodles.
Having no experience making noodles for the first time, she kneaded the dough before tidying up and left it to rest in the kitchen for an afternoon.
Adding salt and alkali when kneading dough increases its elasticity and makes it easier to stretch.
Of course, she learned all of this online, and she still needed to experiment. Fortunately, the dough did stretch, but it wasn't quite what she had imagined.
But there's no rush, there are still five days before it opens! She can use these few days to learn properly.
A week passed in the blink of an eye, and Shi Jia and her son were finally ready to open their stall.
At six o'clock in the afternoon, there were only a few stalls on the food street. Shi Jia was slightly puzzled, but seeing the still blazing red sun on the horizon, she understood.
Pushing the food cart to the designated location, Shi Jia didn't delay and quickly arranged various seasonings, lunch boxes, etc.
Once everything was in place, Shi Jia lifted the little one out of the tricycle's cab. "Xingxing, when Mommy gets busy and can't see you, you have to hold onto the rope, okay?" The little one nodded, "Okay, Mommy, I'll be very good."
"Mmm, I know Xingxing is the best baby!" After a kiss between mother and son, Shi Jia put the little guy in the children's high chair she had specially bought.
The chair was high and sturdy, making it easy for Shi Jia to see him at any time, and also easy for the guests to see him. If a human trafficker were to encounter someone, it would not be easy to abduct them in full view of everyone.
It has to be said that after being someone's mother for a month, Shi Jia has come to deeply understand the principle that a child is a piece of flesh that fell from the mother's body.
The little guy had just settled into his seat when Shi Jia's phone rang.
"It's your sister Qiqi calling." She said to the little guy, "Qiqi, yes, I've set up my stall. Come and support me, okay? Come on over, I'll treat you to cold noodles."
"Yes, it's right on the food street."
"Your sister Qiqi will be here in a little while," Shi Jia said to the little guy with a smile after hanging up the phone.
The little guy nodded like a little adult, his little hands quickly turning the Rubik's Cube.
Shi Jia didn't mind; the little guy wasn't the type to enjoy lively gatherings and wouldn't get along with Luo Qiqi.
"Boss, how much are the cold noodles?" a voice called out. Shi Jia quickly turned around and greeted the customer with a smile.
"Hello, the cold noodles are 15 yuan."
"15? Others only sell it for 10 yuan." Li Ming frowned. Something big had happened at the company these past few days, and he'd been working overtime every day, so much so that he'd lost his appetite. The takeout he ordered for lunch was really awful; he could only manage a couple of bites before he couldn't eat anymore.
Although he works in an office, the workload is too heavy. It's not even time to get off work yet, and he's already starving.
Oh, their company normally lets out at 7 pm, but lately they've been working overtime, so you can't even get home until 11 pm.
If he hadn't been so unable to eat takeout, he would have braved the scorching sun to buy food.
It was too early, and the vendors hadn't set up their stalls yet! Helpless, he could only ask at this seemingly brand-new cold noodle stall.
Who would have thought that cold noodles from a mobile stall would be so expensive! Having worked and lived in Lin'an for seven or eight years, he knew that prices in Lin'an were high, but for a street vendor to charge such high prices was a bit excessive.
Shi Jia continued to smile, "I knead all my noodles myself, they are purely handmade noodles, and the taste is completely different from those machine-made noodles."
Who are you kidding? She had done her research. The price of cold noodles in Lin'an City ranged from 12 to 128 yuan. Large restaurants started at 28 yuan, and only street vendors could offer prices between 12 and 20 yuan, though most started at 15 yuan.
She is as conscientious as can be.
"Because I just opened, this is a promotional price. After three days, I will return to the original price of 18 yuan," Shi Jia said with a smile.
Li Ming scoffed at this. Handmade noodles? Who are you kidding? A mobile stall making handmade noodles? Just a gimmick!
Seeing Li Ming's clearly disbelieving expression, Shi Jia opened the bamboo basket containing the noodles. Golden noodles, about two millimeters thick, came into view. Instantly, a faint aroma of noodles filled the air.
"Gurgle~" Li Ming's stomach rumbled, and he couldn't help but salivate. This...
"Ahem, boss, give me a bowl of cold noodles, please. 15 yuan, right? I'll pay you." Li Ming said awkwardly.
"Okay, extra spicy, medium spicy, or mild?"
"Big, forget it, I'll just have the mild version." Li Ming likes spicy food, but considering that he hadn't been eating well these past few days and his stomach was a bit upset, he could only regretfully choose the mild version.
"Do you want some scallions and cilantro? Can I eat peanuts?" Peanuts are an allergen, although very few people in Yan are allergic to peanuts, it's still worth asking.
"I want them all!" Li Ming sniffed, his eyes drawn to the bright red chili oil.
