Chapter 1635 Meeting
Chapter 1635 Meeting
"What? The Supreme Emperor of China is coming?"
Karin received a mission from her superiors.
Today, the Great Library has replaced the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople as the center of national ceremonies. Not only Victoria, but even Agassiz made it his permanent workplace.
This added extra difficulty to the work at the large library, as what was originally one person had to be split into two – but coincidentally, Karin was indeed capable of handling two people's tasks. While it appeared to be a six-day work week, they actually worked six days every two weeks, rotating weekly.
Coincidentally, just like the previous times, I always run into Karin whenever I have important work to do.
"Why me again? Should I take a break?"
Although she mentioned wanting to take a day off, she only said it briefly. She didn't intend to go back on her promise to Karin; she just blamed her bad luck, always running into big jobs whenever she came here.
"Sister?" A small voice suddenly appeared beside them, the owner of the voice was still wearing a hood.
"Why are you here? Don't let anyone else see you."
"How about Dad asks me to paint the walls, but I'm too scared to climb the ladder. Why don't you go back?"
"Keep your clever little schemes to yourself. Do you think I'll be willing to trade with you just because you're trying to persuade me like this?"
Karin stuck out her tongue: "Sorry, but I just thought this would make you go back and rest."
"You really are... much more cunning than before. Leave this to me, you go back first. Wait a minute! They've arrived?" She received a message through her earpiece. "How come so fast? Didn't they just say they were coming? How come they're already at the door!"
As she hurried toward the door, Emperor Taihe had already entered, escorted by a large group of Imperial Guards.
“You have quite a few interesting people here.” As the two sat down, Emperor Taihe first asked about what he had seen at the door. “Those two girls at the door had a rather murderous aura.”
"Did you see any other gas?"
"I saw something—are they connected to Shangluo?"
Agassiz nodded: "My daughter likes him very much."
“My daughter is the same—of course, it doesn’t seem to be a kind of liking.”
"Isn't it the same thing?"
"It's not the same kind, I've confirmed it."
The relationship between Agassiz and Zhu Xianxi was merely one of politeness. He and Emperor Taihe were indeed quite familiar with each other, having both ruled for over thirty years and sharing a very close personal relationship. In fact, they maintained private correspondence to bypass cumbersome procedures and establish their own intelligence networks.
And now, the same question has brought them both together here—
Of course, this issue wasn't about Shangluo. The two of them wouldn't have gotten together just to gossip about their daughters. They had more important things to do, but this particular matter was indeed related to Shangluo.
"What do you think of his case?" Emperor Taihe asked. "He seems to be making a fuss over nothing."
"While it is certainly unreasonable, it is indeed heading in the right direction."
"Then what are you going to do?"
"Do nothing. Just like before."
"My dad went to your house? And then he went to Victoria's dad's?"
"Hmm," Shang Luo nodded in the driver's seat, with Zhu Ling sitting next to him. "The one in the back, I heard about it from the Embroidered Uniform Guard—of course, for the Embroidered Uniform Guard to tell me this, the Emperor Emeritus must have agreed." "What's he doing?"
"Logically speaking, marriage and arranged marriages are decided by parents and matchmakers, so he should indeed have some say in it."
"Then he can just take care of me, why would he need to go to your house?"
"I do have something I'd like to ask you," Shang Luo turned around, "Is the Emperor Emeritus quite familiar with His Excellency Agassiz?"
"I don't know, but they do seem to meet quite often. However, they don't talk much in diplomatic settings. What's wrong?"
Actually, I've always had a doubt about one thing.
"what's up?"
[Agasocles is Amun-Zeus.]
"Huh???" Zhu Ling was stunned for a moment. "So you mean the sun god you've been trying to lure out is actually Victoria's father?"
"Yes."
"So what's the basis for your guess? Haven't they ever appeared at the same time?"
"Of course, this isn't just baseless speculation that Amun-Zeus was the sun god of the past. Guess what? He was a Roman emperor of the past."
"This suspicion seems somewhat one-sided?"
"Although it's a one-sided view, I think it's very close to the truth."
Zhu Ling was silent for a while: "You know what, it does seem possible."
Moreover, the possibility seems quite high.
Because Amun-Zeus made a crucial move during the trial—he declared that he would refuse to appear as a judge because of "a conflict of interest."
There are two interpretations. First, he has a vested interest in Shangluo. Second, he is the defendant himself.
It is clear that his relationship with Shangluo is not yet established, because Shangluo is not his son-in-law at the moment; they are just acquaintances.
Can mere acquaintance excuse me from serving as a judge? Theoretically, yes. Recusal doesn't require proof, while actively participating in a trial requires demonstrating that one has no vested interest in either party.
"But no matter what, isn't this a bit outrageous?"
Shangluo shook his head: "If he really is Amun-Zeus, then many things make sense—for example, why did he always remain neutral? Because from Amun-Zeus's perspective, doing so is the most efficient for him. Furthermore, Amun-Zeus was mainly responsible for managing all the secrets in the Roman magic system. And if he were the Roman emperor, this would just allow him to access all the secrets."
[There's another point that's always puzzled me—the Dragon Tooth Soldiers were loyal to Amun-Zeus. So why would they rebel against the Roman Empire and then pledge allegiance to Amun-Zeus? The answer is obvious: they didn't betray the Roman Empire at all; they simply weren't loyal to Victorian Rome. Real power remained in the hands of Agassiz.]
"If you know all this, what do you plan to do?" Zhu Ling asked.
“Ask him for his opinion and make him hand over the dragon-headed staff,” Shangluo replied. “Everything in Rome must be destroyed; nothing can be left on the ground. This is the plan that Victoria and I devised.”
This is of paramount importance. Whether Rome was loyal or not is irrelevant to all of this.
For better or for worse, everything in the world related to Rome will be utterly destroyed. For there can only be one sun in the sky.
