Ming Dynasty and New Rome and Infinite Magic Machine
Chapter 1584 Disagreement
Chapter 1584 Disagreement
This is the story of the new version of Wang Lingguan.
The old version of the Wang Lingguan story has some of the flavor of old-fashioned detective novels, which is very much in line with the habits of the previous generation—the previous generation's world was too complicated, so they just wanted to watch some light and simple monster-fighting stories.
After all, it has been almost 200 years since the Industrial Revolution began, and the region has been fully industrialized for three generations. Two hundred years ago, when the Industrial Revolution started, our ancestors had already endured much hardship. Although the people of the region experienced some dramatic changes in thought and society in the previous and subsequent generations, these were mainly internal issues, and they did not truly suffer—if there was any suffering, it was only the suffering of unfulfilled desires, not genuine deprivation.
The current generation is far too idle. The Ming Dynasty currently faces neither social nor economic problems, nor developmental challenges. This generation has time to ponder issues that the previous generation rarely considered.
This resulted in significant differences between the old and new versions of the story of Wang Lingguan.
That's why we have this movie, "Wang Lingguan vs. Flying Yaksha".
"I have a question." After thinking for a moment, Grand Secretary Wen said, "Actually, there's something else I don't understand."
“Grand Secretary Wen,” Zhu Xianxi shook his head and said, “I think you don’t have a problem, but rather some kind of dissatisfaction, right? Then tell us about it. Your dissatisfaction, Grand Secretary Wen, is very important to us.”
“Then I will tell you the truth—I think there’s something wrong with this Flying Yaksha. It’s as if he appeared out of thin air and committed many crimes. Where were the authorities during his crimes?”
This is a big problem, and it's also the first thing that Grand Secretary Wen, as a member of the previous generation, was concerned about.
He was concerned with a political issue—if a ruthless, flying demon is sent out and slaughters everyone in sight, what about the imperial court? What about the government? Why does the government do nothing in the process?
This is why many similar crime plots become "confusing" in the Ming Dynasty. In broad daylight, where would so many large-scale criminal groups come from? Furthermore, if it were economic crimes, that would be one thing, since economic crimes can be linked to the government.
This is also the focus of current works of art and literature. Favoritism, embezzlement, trafficking in illegal goods, and various other transactions are all possible scenarios here. Organized crime is possible, and murder is possible, but it's unlikely that an organization would exist that acts with impunity, purely for the purpose of killing.
This is equivalent to someone in a remote mountain village tearing off a tiger skin and proclaiming themselves "Emperor So-and-so," or gathering a band of outlaws to dominate a region. Such a thing might have happened in the Song Dynasty, but it's unlikely to happen now. Because if someone did this, a few police stations could easily take them down; it wouldn't even be considered a major case.
Flying Yaksha is a complete terrorist; he kills indiscriminately. He doesn't need any reason to kill; he'll kill anyone who gets in his way.
"So what is the reason?" Elder Wen asked. "What is the purpose of the Flying Yaksha doing all this? Why is the government not doing anything about it?"
"As for this," Shangluo thought for a moment, "I remember it was mentioned at the beginning of the script that the Flying Yaksha were Romans, and that the Romans had failed to handle the security issues properly."
"There cannot be two suns in the sky, Shangluo," Grand Secretary Wen emphasized. "Although we don't usually say it, strictly speaking, Rome is merely a 'guest country' of the court, and the emperor treats the Romans with the courtesy due to guests. In other words, the Romans are also part of the world. We cannot only concern ourselves with matters that happen within the capital region. Even if these horrific terrorists were on Roman territory, we would still have to intervene—although in reality we wouldn't, we can't just make a movie about it and say 'we can't handle that area.' This is a big problem."
"Hmm," Zhu Xianxi nodded, "Now that you mention it, it is indeed a political issue. It's not that everyone thinks this way, but filming it would certainly make the court seem somewhat incompetent—but then again, isn't this what Master Sa wanted to film?"
Shangluo nodded. All three of them fell silent.
"What should we do?" Shangluo asked. "Should I go and discuss it with Master Sa?"
Zhu Xianxi said helplessly, "Forget it. The Celestial Master's problems aren't really problems, because the Celestial Master must have his own considerations. Besides, this problem isn't that prominent; ultimately, it just depends on how the plot unfolds."
What he meant was that this issue could be big or small, but it was indeed a problem. And the fact that this matter was presented as a problem to everyone was perhaps also Sa Tianshi's own intention.
In other words——
"This is the Celestial Master causing us trouble," Zhu Xianxi concluded. "What does Grand Secretary Wen think?"
"Although it may be a bit inappropriate to say it like this, Master Sa's decision in this matter is indeed undeniable. He must have his reasons for doing so—we need to figure out what his reasons are. We must respond to his moves."
Grand Secretary Wen spoke these words without hesitation. Only after he finished did he realize his surprise.
Before he knew it, he had even become familiar with sparring with the Celestial Masters—something he would never have dared to imagine before.
After all, the Celestial Masters are the Celestial Masters; they are aligned with the Daoist Ancestor. The Emperor is the Emperor; he is aligned with the imperial court. Originally, neither side interfered with the other's work, and mortals naturally have some fear of immortals.
But now the imperial court has more and more immortals under its control, and even governors like Yuan have begun to wield immortal power to some extent. As a result, he is increasingly able to view the Celestial Masters with a more "peaceful" attitude. Although he still holds them in high esteem, at least he can now accept their challenges without any problem.
Especially here. He knew that the Celestial Master was definitely not looking for trouble; it was more like administering a vaccine, using a low-risk inactivated virus to test whether the immune system was functioning properly, and then producing antibodies.
This is also the simplest method. Because you can't teach someone by person, but you can learn something by doing. This is much more convenient than having Master Sa call them all together for a discussion. Meetings require reconciling interests, which necessitates decisions made by all participants.
But vaccination is different. During the process of antibody formation, the pathways to immunity will open up on their own.
"So, the question is, what exactly is Master Sa talking about?" Zhu Xianxi looked at Shang Luo. "You're the closest to Master Sa, aren't you?"
"Huh? Am I that familiar with you?"
“Because I can’t think of anyone else who is close to Master Sa besides you. At least you can see him often? Our General Fu Yuanshan, although he is a disciple of Master Sa, can’t see Master Sa. So I’m thinking that you might know what Master Sa is trying to say.”
