Chapter 1381: Finch Jack's Professor Who Accidentally Flipped Over (Two Chapters in One, Double the Monthly Tickets)
When Jack walked into the second floor of an abandoned library, the crisp tapping sounds of mechanical keyboards were echoing among the bookshelves filled with precious books.
As a high-level intellectual, Finch still has considerable respect for books as a carrier of knowledge.
The tilted bookshelves and dusty books thrown randomly on the ground on the first floor are just illusions. Most of the precious first editions and valuable books are properly preserved on the second floor.
Jack paused slightly outside the iron door on the second floor. He had not noticed this before. Finch had set up an independent engine at the corner that used propane as fuel and a battery as a UPS uninterruptible power supply.
Although propane is flammable and explosive as a gas fuel, its chemical properties are very stable. It can be stored for a long time in a sealed container, especially a double-layer stainless steel gas tank, and can still be used normally even after being stored for decades.
"Is that you, Jack?" The typing on the keyboard paused slightly, and Finch's voice came from inside the room.
"Yes." Jack walked into the room, handed the hard drive and laptop to Finch, and then briefly described the current situation. Although the two were talking face to face, they always kept in touch with Reese.
"So Powell now faces a 'clear and conclusive' first-degree murder charge?" Finch asked as he connected the hard drive and laptop to his equipment.
"Yes, according to past practice, in this kind of high-profile case with solid motive and evidence, Powell will be sent to federal prison for life in less than two months."
Jack read out the current investigation information they had. "The man who Powell said handed him the firecracker gun and gloves and led him to the backstage of the banquet hall was a non-existent ghost to the police.
People from the FBI operations center looked through the surveillance videos in the banquet hall and found that the other party had perfectly avoided all surveillance cameras. We only captured half of their figure outside the box where the two people were handing over each other, which obviously did not explain anything.
The NYPD interviewed all witnesses, including security and staff at the scene, and only a few of them had any impression of Powell entering the employee passage.
"I'm not lying! He was there," Powell shouted loudly on the other end of the phone, but was immediately covered by Fusco's mouth.
“Are you crazy?” Detective Doudou lowered his voice and shouted angrily, “No one here thinks you are a murderer, but if you can’t calm down, I don’t mind tying you up and stuffing you in the trunk of a car to avoid trouble.”
Jack's cheek twitched, and he continued, "We also investigated the so-called 'part-time' temporary agency that called Powell. There is no such company in New York or several nearby states. It can be basically confirmed that it is fabricated."
"So Powell is still in danger. It was a wise decision for Jack to ask me to bring him out first. We found a tracker on the sole of his shoe." When Reese said this, his tone was as if he was talking about the good weather today.
Finch paused while typing on the keyboard, his voice changing tone. "So you guys are still staying in that motel?"
Reese's voice turned into that deep, hoarse one again, as if he was telling a horror story. "Generally speaking, people who are framed for this kind of thing usually don't survive. If they can't be dealt with on the spot, there will be a remedy plan later, making it look like suicide or an accident."
"Is this what you learned from experience, Mr. Reese?" Finch couldn't help but complain.
"The other party's focus now is to eliminate hidden dangers, so we are waiting for them to fall into our trap." Reese showed a calm attitude of fighting against the enemy and blocking the water.
"Need extra support?" Jack asked.
He was not too worried about Reese's safety, as Danny was already on his way to Westampton with weapons and equipment.
Although it has been confirmed that the other party is likely to be a professional team, judging from the characteristics currently shown, the team size will not be large.
One or two thugs who do dirty work, a planner and a hacker who is proficient in computers are almost the entire configuration of this team. Otherwise, there would be no need to go through so many conspiracies and intrigues.
Reese has almost recovered to his peak condition now. He may not be able to beat Clay, who is at his peak physical condition, in the boxing ring, but his actual fighting power is still higher. After all, Clay has never received the CIA's special assassination agent training.
"Not for now. Contact me anytime if there is any situation. You'd better find the hacker as soon as possible. Even if he is not the mastermind, we should be able to find the guy through him." Reese hung up the phone after saying that.
Jack glanced at the four screens propped up by stands in front of Finch. The dialog boxes with "Request Denied" on them were dazzling.
He silently moved a chair and sat down next to Finch, then took out a sandwich from the fast food bag he bought on the way here and ate it slowly.
Finch glanced at the tuna sandwich in Jack's hand, and his throat subconsciously rolled, "Don't you have anything else to do, Mr. Taverer?"
"Call me Jack." Jack shook the sandwich in his hand. "Don't look at me like that. There's another one in the bag for you. I never eat alone."
"I don't have the habit of eating midnight snacks. The doctor said it's not good for my health." Finch swallowed subconsciously.
"If your personal doctor knows that you exercise every day, he or she may give different advice and the right amount of nutrition will help your body recover faster."
Jack glanced calmly at the floor next to the desk. There were two clear handprints there, with an open novel placed between the palms, but it was no longer Asimov's "I, Robot".
Finch was stunned for a moment. After pressing the last enter key, he hesitated for a moment and still couldn't help but open the lunch bag.
Jack looked at the program on the screen that seemed to be running automatically, and felt a little confused. "So what are we waiting for now?"
Finch chewed his sandwich in big mouthfuls until he finished it all, and then he took two sips of water before clearing his throat and answering, “I have confirmed that the Trojan horse in Powell’s own computer and the Trojan horse in the laptop that framed him were created by the same person, and the code is quite complex and sophisticated.
It’s just that one was used to obtain personal information, and the other was used to plant anonymous emails to frame him.”
Jack nodded to show his understanding, "The fact that they hid the notebook in Powell's house in advance shows that it was premeditated.
But in order to avoid suspicion from the police during the subsequent inspection, he did not copy the files into the wireless network until three days before the incident, so that the digital features such as IP and DNS addresses could match the wireless network of Powell's home.
Finch smiled, as if talking to a smart person saves effort, "The other party was too cautious. In order to prevent Powell, who often used the desktop computer at home, from discovering the clues, the notebook prepared as evidence instead exposed him." "What do you mean?" Jack raised his eyebrows slightly.
"I installed this Trojan on my computer," Finch said before Jack's face changed slightly, "You infected your computer on purpose?"
“No, no, no.” Finch smiled and raised a finger, feeling quite superior to the “Muggles”. “I have built a virtual system, and now the Trojan is running in it. It will lead me to the location of the hacker.”
"How long will it take?" Jack hated wearing a watch on his wrist when he was not involved in important operations, so he took out his cell phone and checked the time as usual.
"Soon, the other party was very smart, using a disguised IP and jumping multiple times, but I had already caught him. I found a loophole in the firewall."
Finch wiped his hands, and his fingers moved nimbly on the keyboard again, "Oh, yes, OK, we're in."
Although he lacked the passion to watch the game because he couldn't understand the codes that kept refreshing on the screen, Jack still praised him very enthusiastically, "I never doubt your ability, Finch."
Finch stared at the screen intently, muttering, "Now let me see who is hiding behind the scenes."
However, his slightly smug expression froze on his face the next second, "Wait, something's wrong!"
Jack stood up subconsciously, "What's going on?"
"This is a trap. I didn't hack into it, but someone deliberately put it there. The other party is now tracking me backwards and will soon break through the virtual system I built."
Finch's tone became tense and urgent, which surprised Jack. "I thought there were only a few computer experts as good as you in the world except Justin."
"Military personnel are divided into different arms that are proficient in different combat skills. Compared with network attack and defense, I am better at writing code, while the other side is obviously particularly good at writing and using virus tools.
He is now using a worm to infect my systems and the network I built specifically for the group. In other words, Reese's side has also been exposed."
Finch took his hands off the keyboard and bent over to unplug the network cable, but his eyes never left the screen. "Damn it, it's too late. He's going to find this place soon."
"Is there anything I can do?" Jack didn't seem nervous at all. With his current abilities, even if a Navy SEAL team came, they would be able to protect Finch and help him leave safely.
What's more, it is the evening rush hour in Manhattan, and this abandoned library is located in the downtown area of Manhattan. Unless the other party directly sends a helicopter to land on the roof for a surprise attack, there is no need to worry about safety issues at all.
Finch looked up in surprise. Behind his thick round glasses with clearly visible ripples, his small bloodshot eyes blinked rapidly several times, as if he finally remembered some of the "European experiences" that Reese had talked to him about before.
"Well, just turn off the power switch. Of course, there is also the UPS power supply over there."
With a "bang" the air switch popped up, Jack pulled out the cable connected to the battery and turned off the generator at the same time.
As the security light came on, the second floor of the library suddenly fell into darkness, and the low humming sounds produced by various chassis fans and generators disappeared, leaving only a faint light left by Finch's mobile phone on the table, but it soon disappeared with the fall of a hammer.
"Uh, my phone needs the same." Jack had a headache. He carried two phones with him, one belonged to the FBI, and the other was a private phone specially customized for him by Justin.
"No need. None of your electronic devices have been connected to the network here." After smashing his phone, Finch took out the phone card and stuffed it into his briefcase along with the router with the network cable unplugged on the table.
Standing outside the iron door on the second floor and looking inside, Finch picked up the coat on the hanger with an expressionless face, "We should leave here, Jack."
".You will see a building across the street with all the windows on the second floor sealed up. Yes, you are right, Clay. This is the abandoned city library. Find a few agents to keep an eye on the entrances and exits here. Notify me immediately if you find anything."
After arranging the surveillance mission, Jack hung up the phone, nodded to Finch, and walked down the stairs with him.
-
After leaving an abandoned library, Jack drove Finch to another library near Washington Square Park, the Bobst Library under New York University (Chapter 1208).
After paying out a stack of 10 $20 bills to "quit" a student couple who were kissing each other in a private study room, Finch plugged in his laptop and a brand new phone.
"Justin, yes, according to Finch, the other party may find him again at any time, and he needs your help." Jack nodded at Finch after he finished speaking on the phone. The latter let out a long sigh and then opened his notebook.
While he was busy, Jack's phone rang again. This time it was from an unfamiliar number. After answering the call, Reese's voice came from the other end, "What happened? Why did Finch suddenly ask me to throw away my phone?"
Jack roughly recounted what had just happened. "Finch seemed to have underestimated the hacker's ability, which led to his near-exposure. But don't worry about his safety. If things don't work out, I can send him to the Federal Building or the Omega headquarters in Washington."
"It sounds like he won't like either of these two places very much." There seemed to be a hint of gloating in Reese's deep voice, but this might just be Jack's illusion.
"Also, I already have an idea about how to track down the real culprit, so I have specially invited an expert, and she will join me soon."
Before Jack finished his words, there was a crisp sound of footsteps outside the study room, with people wearing stockings, long legs, high heels, glasses, shirts and one-step skirts.
The students sitting in the outer seats who were floating in the ocean of knowledge looked up subconsciously. Their originally slightly confused eyes instantly became clear after seeing the person coming.
"Who is it?" Reese continued to ask.
"Professor Cahill, a person who has in-depth knowledge of the political circle and is also my psychology mentor. I'm hanging up first." Jack put away his phone and went forward to help Maureen open the door.
"Long time no see, my dearest student."
Under Finch's surprised gaze, Maureen took off her gold-rimmed glasses, gently touched Jack's chin with her other hand and kissed him.
