Police officer Chen Shu

Chapter 71 Hospital Physical Examination

Chapter 71 Hospital Physical Examination
Chen Shu drove back to Zhongshan Police Station at around 5 p.m.

He had just returned from police academy training and was still wearing his police uniform. He parked his car and went straight to the cafeteria.

The scheduled dinner time at Zhongshan Institute is 5 p.m. Although some time has passed, the cafeteria lady still left quite a lot of food as usual.

Chen Shu ordered a meal with two meat dishes and two vegetable dishes, and sat down in the empty seat next to Li Chaoyang.

Li Chaoyang laughed and said, "Senior brother, it's almost Friday and we're about to get off work. Why are you still coming over?"

Chen Shu picked up the chopsticks from the chopstick holder on the table and swished them around a few times: "There's nothing I can do, I haven't met this month's quota yet. It's almost the weekend, so the chances are a bit better, right? Why are you eating dinner at the office too?"

Li Chaoran said, "We caught a pickpocket who was stealing from an internet cafe last night, and we've just finished the procedures. After we finish eating, we'll take him to the hospital for a medical check-up, and then send him to the detention center."

Chen Shu thought for a moment and said, "You young people should take more time to go out and explore. If you stay cooped up in the office all the time, you won't be able to find a girlfriend. How about this, I'll take my girlfriend to the hospital for a medical check-up tonight and then send her to detention. You should go home early."

Li Chaoyang thought to himself, "Aren't you single too? Why are you lecturing and urging me?"
"Oh? I'm so sorry. It's alright, senior brother. I don't have anything to do tonight, and I have tomorrow off too."

Chen Shu said, "I'm going to police rank promotion training this week, so the duty team will be one person short. It must be a bit tiring for you to handle the security matters all by yourself. Now that I'm back, you should go and get some rest. Okay, it's settled then. After you finish eating, give me the personnel information and the detention documents."

The duty team at Zhongshan Police Station consists of one leader on duty, one dispatching officer, one receiving officer, and one investigating officer.

Generally, the older officers are responsible for responding to calls, and their main job is to patrol the streets from inside the patrol car (the Zhongshan Police Station is equipped with a domestically produced SUV). If the duty officer receives a report, they will contact that officer to respond to the call.

Community police officers are responsible for sitting at the front desk in the duty hall, handling calls and receiving citizens who come to the police station to report cases.

The local police officers stay at the station. They handle their own cases, and if new cases come in on their shift, they are handled by that same officer.

This is just a standard setup, and it's not to say that it has to be done this way. The three police officers on duty can also negotiate and divide the tasks themselves.

Chen Shu went to police rank training this week, leaving the duty team one person short. The workload that was originally three people was shared by the other two, so it was only natural for him to offer to help Li Chaoyang with his work.

The police station has a heavy workload, and the officers help each other out whenever they have a spare moment.

Seeing that Chen Shu was very insistent, Li Chaoyang nodded and remained silent.

……

Second floor security office.

Chen Shu, who had just finished eating, sat in his office and looked at Zhu Chaoran, who was sitting on the sofa, engrossed in his get off work. He said helplessly, "Fatty, it's time to go home and have some fun."

Zhu Chaoran pouted: "Going home means getting nagged by my mom again, it's better to be here in peace and quiet."

"Then turn the volume down a bit. Last time the inspector came for a surprise inspection at night, he thought you were playing games during your shift."

"Brother Shu, we're innocent, so we have nothing to fear! But I'll listen to you." Taking advantage of being 'double-killed' by others, Zhu Chaoran quickly pulled out his Bluetooth earphones from his pocket and put them on.

Chen Shu connected his phone to his computer via WeChat and printed out the information about the detainees that Li Chaoyang had sent him.

"Zhou Yongcheng, 19 years old, from Nan Province, with a criminal record."

After reviewing the documents, he inserted the digital certificate into his computer and checked several key information portals on the intranet, but found no unusual activity that required special attention, except for a few prior convictions for theft.

He glanced at Zhu Chaoran's phone screen a few times, waiting for the game to end. Just then, an electronic "win!" sound rang out.

Seeing his tense expression relax with genuine joy, Chen Shu said, "Fatty, come with me for a walk to digest your food?"

"Do you provide late-night snacks?" Zhu Chaoran hesitated for a moment.

Chen Shu brushed the dust off his shirt, picked up the detention documents, and stood up: "I'll take care of it! Two meals!"

"Just one meal, that's enough! Don't worry about breakfast!" Zhu Chaoran followed Chen Shu downstairs with a big smile.

Chen Shu asked Zhu Chaoran to go to the plainclothes team office on the first floor to ask Captain Zheng Jie for a team member, while he went straight to the detention room in the station.

Zhou Yongcheng hung his head, his hands cuffed, and he was dazed as Chen Shu pushed him along from behind.

"Officer, I'm hungry."

In today's society, as long as you're willing to work hard, you'll never go hungry. You can earn over a hundred yuan a day delivering food.
Chen Shu ignored him and nudged his back twice more, urging him to hurry up and walk.

Chen Shu was still replaying the case transcripts he had just read in the office in his mind.

In his statement, Zhou Yongcheng explained that he stole because he hadn't eaten for two days and was hungry. So he would go to internet cafes at night and specifically target sleeping people to steal their phones or wallets.

A person who is homeless, lazy, and lives day to day is beyond saving. No one can save someone who has exiled and fallen into depravity.

As law enforcement officers, they should focus on the facts and not harbor ill will. It's just that Chen Shu simply can't stand these kinds of people.

Zhu Chaoran drove, with Chen Shu and Xiao Lin from the plainclothes team sitting on either side of Zhou Yongcheng. The car headed straight for Zhongshan People's Hospital in the jurisdiction to begin the necessary procedure before detention—a physical examination.

There are two types of detention: one is administrative detention, which is when the person violates the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law" and is sent to a detention center; the other is criminal detention, which is when the person is suspected of committing a crime, i.e., the "Criminal Law", and is sent to a detention center.

Zhou Yongcheng has been issued an administrative penalty decision by the branch bureau because the evidence of his theft is conclusive. Due to his prior criminal record, he has been given the maximum penalty of 10 days of administrative detention.

Before being sent to the detention center, the investigators, namely Li Chaoyang or Chen Shu, need to take him to a designated hospital for a routine physical examination, including an electrocardiogram, DR, and blood tests.

Only after the physical examination is completed, and if there are no medical conditions that preclude detention, can the person be taken to the detention center for detention.

Zhongshan People's Hospital
Although Zhou Yongcheng seemed listless and uninterested in the outside world, Chen Shu still arranged for Zhu Chaoran and Xiao Lin to watch over him in the hospital's waiting area, as per regulations, while he quickly walked towards the registration window.

The Zhengming District Public Security Bureau and Zhongshan People's Hospital have signed an agreement that the hospital will provide a green channel for police officers on duty, meaning they can skip the queues for registration, consultation, examination, report collection, and payment.

Chen Shu, dressed in a police uniform, walked through the long queue to the hospital window. He smiled and said "Sorry, I'm on official business" to the people behind him in line, then took the second place and quietly waited for the person in front of him to handle their business.

A loud shout came rushing in from the back of the group.

"Hey! Why are you cutting in line?!"
