Police officer Chen Shu

Chapter 499 Once you've made a decision, don't back down.

The Wei clan policeman pounded his bowl with his thin chopsticks, indignantly shouting, "These scum should all be chopped up! They should be exterminated! I don't know why they're still alive! Such a waste of food!"

A policeman sitting opposite him, also from the Wei clan, nodded in agreement, not finding anything amiss at all: "I think those brainwashed people must be out of their minds! They actually believe things that even a fool wouldn't believe! They're truly amazing creatures."

The dark-skinned Chinese policeman, however, remained nonchalant, scooping up a mouthful of mutton soup and slurping it down with obvious enjoyment.
"Haha, this is the same idea as eating Tang Sanzang's flesh to achieve immortality. Do they think every Chinese person is Tang Sanzang?"

The Wei ethnic policeman who had previously banged his chopsticks on the bowl seemed to feel unsatisfied, so he slammed his hand on the table and declared, "Those people are just crazy! We must stand with our fellow Chinese!"

The indignation of the Wei clan police is actually quite understandable.

You killed my family, and you expect me to support you? Support you without giving you a whole magazine of bullets? Are you stupid, or am I?

The dark-skinned Chinese policeman glanced at Chen Shu and Julie, who were sitting next to him and whom he didn't recognize, coughed a few times, and reminded them, "Aihemaiti, although I know your stance is absolutely correct, you can't say you're on the same side as your fellow Chinese compatriots. That's a very narrow-minded form of nationalism. The correct way to put it is to be on the same side as the people. Do you understand?"

Julie burst out laughing, pointing at the dark-faced policeman: "So you're an expert in unity studies now."

Seeing the dark-faced policeman's embarrassed expression, Chen Shu quickly apologized: "Brother, I'm sorry, we're police officers from Donghai, we're colleagues. Um, I'm not very familiar with the situation here."

The dark-faced policeman waved his hand and repeatedly said no need.

"Donghai? Is that Zhang Wei's brother?" Aihemaiti asked hurriedly when he heard that it was the hometown of his brother in the prison ward.

Chen Shu smiled and nodded: "Yes, Zhang Wei and I are brothers."

Aihmaiti gave a thumbs up: "Zhang Wei is awesome, we're brothers too!"

Then, he pointed to his fist and said definitively, "You're strong, you're a man!"

Chen Shulian recalled what Zhang Wei had told him last night about the beatings and verbal abuse of prisoners in jail. He hadn't quite gotten used to it yet, and could only manage a forced "uh-huh" and a forced smile.

The dark-faced policeman must have figured something out. He kicked Aihemai under the table and yelled at him to get back to work in the prison area.

Aihemaiti didn't mind at all, laughed heartily, picked up his plate of food and left. Another Wei ethnic policeman who had also finished breakfast smiled and nodded to Chen Shu and Zhu Li as a greeting, and then got up and left as well.

The dark-faced policeman gestured with his chin toward Aihmaiti's retreating figure: "Aihmaiti, a descendant of a martyr. His father was originally a local policeman, but he was killed in his home by K elements while he was sleeping. Aihmaiti happened to be in the city with his mother, so he escaped."

"Zi"

Julie, who had been smiling as she watched everyone chat, covered her mouth, tears welling in her eyes.

Chen Shu put down his chopsticks, recalling a sentence from a news article he had seen earlier when he was looking through Nx's files at the police academy.

“Every compatriot who longs for a happy and stable life is a victim.”

Likes flooded in.

After breakfast, Lin Dakai, Chen Shu, and others, under the arrangement of the prison authorities, began a day of research, which was an on-site investigation of NX Prison, which is at the forefront of the current anti-X situation.

Previously, their offices, meals, and accommodations in the prison were actually located outside the prison area, meaning that the actual place where prisoners were held was further inside.

The group arrived outside the prison area, where a white plaque with black characters reading "Seventh Prison Area" hung next to the iron gate.

The inner small iron gate on one side of the large iron gate opened from the inside, and Aihemaiti, whom he had bumped into in the canteen at breakfast, poked his head out.

He stretched out his arm and waved vigorously, saying enthusiastically, "Hey, my friends, I knew you were coming to my prison area today." From the large iron gate to the cells where prisoners were held deep inside the prison area, there was a square open space about 100 meters long. According to Aihemaiti, this place was where the prisoners were allowed to exercise.

Chen Shu looked around. High walls stood on all four sides, surrounded by barbed wire. On the west wall stood a police booth, inside which stood an armed policeman.

Two basketball hoops hung on the walls on the east and west sides of the open space, and a straight blue line was drawn on the ground. When they entered the prison area, they naturally walked near this blue line.

“The work in the prison ward is different from that in their office. Our work pattern is called 121, which means we work one eight-hour administrative shift, then two eight-hour standby shifts, and finally one eight-hour 'staring-in' shift. This counts as one rotation, and then we can go to sleep.”

Lin Dakai asked, "Didn't any of you rest?"

“Rest? I haven’t heard that word in almost a month.” Aihemaiti shrugged and complained, “Most of the leaders in our prison are former military officers. They have no concept of rest time and treat their subordinates like new recruits, making you come whenever they call.”

Aihemaiti pointed to a dormitory building on the west side and continued, "We used to arrange for these prisoners to knit wool sweaters, but now I don't know what the leaders are thinking. They've stopped production and are just feeding these beasts for nothing."

"Hey!"

Seeing Aihemaiti's dejected appearance, everyone couldn't help but laugh.

When we passed the meeting room inside the prison area, we saw that it was crowded with people, as if they were having a class, so we all went in to join them.

Zhang Wei was standing at the front, with a huge projection screen behind him displaying a PowerPoint presentation. Judging from the title and the photos below, the content seemed to be about the K attack.

Zhang Wei seemed to have had a bad night's sleep, with dark circles under his eyes, but he looked to be in good spirits.

The students sitting below were all wearing the same school uniform.

“An educational activity. Originally, the prison wanted the boys to experience what it felt like to lose their freedom, but Zhang Wei felt that they should take this opportunity to talk to the boys about coping strategies,” Aihemaiti explained softly.

Zhang Wei clearly saw the group entering, nodded slightly to Chen Shu, and continued explaining: "Students, when you encounter an attack by K, your first and only choice is to run away. Disarming someone with your bare hands is something that only happens in movies and TV dramas; it has absolutely nothing to do with you!"
"The real world is cruel, and life is fragile. Don't try to be a hero. Please repeat what I said: one, two, three, don't try to be a hero! When you sense danger, the best option you can make is to run away."

“As I just said, it’s impossible to disarm someone with your bare hands, and it’s impossible for you to expect to be like 007 and disarm them with your bare hands. The gun was pointed at you, and in the K attack, they would have fired the next second. There was no dialogue, no crying for help, and the K members wouldn’t even have given you a proper look. And you, you didn’t even have time to react before you were shot. Before the pain even hit you, the blood was already gushing out.”

Jiang Hai gently nudged Chen Shu and whispered, "Brother Shu, what do you think we should do if we get attacked by K on our way home from get off work?"

Chen Shu looked at Zhang Wei, who was standing on the podium full of vigor and whose dejected appearance was completely different from the previous night, and felt gratified.

"When you're unarmed and alone, escaping is the first choice," Chen Shu repeated Zhang Wei's words without hesitation.

Jiang Hai was somewhat surprised by the rather timid reply, "We are police officers."

"But" awaits you. Zhu Li, who works in the same branch office as Chen Shu and knows him well, smiled slightly.

“Oh, my friend,” Aihmaiti murmured to himself, rubbing his hands nervously.

Lin Dakai was focused on Zhang Wei's explanation in the conference room, seemingly unaware of the little incident happening here.

"Resistance is the worst option, but once you've made a decision, don't back down." Chen Shu narrowed his eyes, immersing himself in Zhang Wei's PPT.

I originally wanted to use Zhang Wei's voice to write about NX prison, but the parts that were touched upon in the previous chapters were all reported and sent to solitary confinement, so I guess that's a sensitive topic. So I'll just wrap it up simply and add an educational training chapter to conclude the prison visit.

I feel ashamed.
