Police officer Chen Shu
Chapter 349 Promotion to Street
Chapter 349 Promotion to Street
Li Da was sent to the hospital, and Chen Shu worked two consecutive days. Today, Xie Chi came to cover for him.
Although he had spent two consecutive nights at the unit, the SWAT team was different from the police station; he could get a full night's sleep there. Food and drink were plentiful at the unit, and the large bathroom always had hot water. Therefore, Chen Shu didn't feel too tired.
During the handover in the office, Chen Shu joked, "Thank you, Professor Xie. Before I came here, you and Li Da weren't taking turns on duty at the office, were you? Your family must have had quite a few complaints about that."
Xie Chi sighed and said, "Before you came, the squadron leaders of the four companies took turns leading the shifts with us, which was a six-day shift. But after you were transferred, our brigade now has three leaders, and the higher-ups banned it because it was against regulations for squadron leaders to serve as brigade leaders on duty."
Chen Shu did some mental calculations: "If the squad leader takes shifts with you, then the remaining four deputy squad leaders will have to take shifts with the police officers. If that's the case, wouldn't they have to work every four days?"
As he was doing the calculations, he suddenly paused, then smiled knowingly: "With my arrival, the brigade leaders are now on a three-day shift, while the police officers are actually benefiting, with an eight-day shift. With longer shift intervals, the four squad leaders don't have to bear the responsibility of leadership. No wonder they always look at me with such a smile; now I understand why."
Upon hearing this, Xie Chi pointed at Chen Shu and laughed, "You young police officers are always thinking about responsibility. Back in our day, we prioritized our work, and everything else had to take a backseat."
“Right, right, you guys were real police back then. We’re high-level security guards now,” Chen Shu chimed in with a smile.
The two chatted for a while, and Chen Shu, just past 5:30, said goodbye to Xie Chi and went home.
This time, Chen's mother made sure to ask Chen Shu about his return time well in advance, and she is currently preparing a meal at home to welcome her son.
Opening the door, the first thing that catches the eye is a pair of neatly arranged slippers. I have to say, it feels really good to have a mom.
The aroma of food wafted from the restaurant. Among them was Chen Shu's favorite pig's trotter soup, which he could recognize just by the smell.
"Mom, you don't need to come all the way here to cook for me anymore. There's food at work."
Chen Shu took off the heavy boots issued by his workplace and put on freshly washed slippers, feeling comfortable from his feet all the way to his head.
"What good taste can you expect from the food cooked in the company cafeteria? Even if you have good ingredients, you can't make it taste good. Besides, being a policeman is so hard, your health has deteriorated a lot, you need to eat well to improve your health! You're young, you don't understand, you'll understand when you get older."
Hearing the noise at the door, Aunt Chen continued to scold, but her face was beaming with smiles: "Come and eat, the food is getting cold."
At the dinner table, Chen Shu smelled the mouthwatering aroma of the meat broth, took a small sip, and immediately showed a look of enjoyment.
Seeing this, Chen's mother was overjoyed. She didn't know why, but seeing her son eat so well made her feel especially comfortable.
While eating, Chen Shu talked about his assignment to the special police brigade, especially mentioning that in the special police, there wouldn't be the same all-night case-solving or frequent contact with people from the outside world as in the police station. Their daily work consists of training and patrolling.
After hearing this, Chen's mother felt much more at ease. However, after the meal, she still took out her phone, opened Douyin (TikTok), pointed to a short video on it, and said a few words.
Upon seeing the video, Chen Shu realized it was the one he had captured yesterday while patrolling Oujiang Road, showing him apprehending a drunk middle-aged man.
He smiled and explained that there was video surveillance, and that the person in the crowd was slandering the police. He said the person who assaulted the police was actually the middle-aged man, who had been taken to the police station yesterday. He told her not to worry.
Hearing her son's explanation, Chen's mother felt much relieved. But just as she was settling down, the topic of her son's marriage came up again. He was almost thirty and still unmarried, which made her very anxious.
"The dog next door has already had two puppies, and you still haven't made any progress. Sigh."
Chen Shu chuckled upon hearing this. What did the dog having puppies have to do with whether he got married or not? But since she was his mother after all, he still offered a few words of comfort before seeing her out the door.
Mr. Chen was waiting for Mrs. Chen to come home for dinner. This elderly couple, married for decades, were still so affectionate. Their relationship was something their son, Chen Shu, envied greatly.
After Chen Ma left, he went back to his study and read for a while, but couldn't concentrate. He was tired after working for two days in a row, so he went back to the master bedroom and lay on the bed. He tossed and turned for a long time, feeling genuinely lonely.
The next morning, Chen Shu got up very early. He hadn't exercised much since working at the police station for so long. After two consecutive morning training sessions at the SWAT team, he felt refreshed and naturally woke up.
After changing my clothes, I ran about five kilometers round trip on Oujiang Road, which took more than twenty minutes. It was much slower than when I was at the police academy, but much better than when I was at the police station.
Back when he was at the Sun Yat-sen Institute, Wang Chongming made a few self-deprecating remarks, which Chen Shu still remembers to this day.
"I only have a little fatty liver, a little high cholesterol, and a little emphysema. In my workplace, I'm considered healthy."
"No grassroots police officer can refuse instant noodles, fried rice, or barbecue from street vendors when working through the night on a case."
Thinking about it this way, being able to exercise and earn a salary at the same time in the SWAT team is a really great job.
After finishing his run and returning home to change, Chen Shu drove his black Golf GTI, which he had washed until it was gleaming the day before yesterday in the SWAT compound, feeling quite pleased with himself, humming a song all the way.
"Well, there's one more advantage. When I'm on duty, I have some free time to use the company's water and equipment to wash my car a few times."
Upon arriving at his workplace, Chen Shu went to the duty room on the fourth floor to hand over his duties to Xie Chi, who had been on duty the previous night. He then retrieved the duty key and his pistol. After returning to his office and sitting down, Chen Shu suddenly realized that he had nothing to do.
Just then, my phone rang. I took it out and saw it was Yan Chenxi, whom I hadn't contacted in a long time.
"Hey, Chief Yan, long time no see." Knowing that the other party was a little obsessed with officialdom, Chen Shu joked.
Sure enough, the person on the other end chuckled for a long time.
"Brother Shu, stop joking with me. By the way, how's it going with the SWAT team? I saw photos of your team rescuing people from the high-speed train accident in the newspaper last time. Why weren't you in the pictures?"
Chen Shu thought of the "police beating people video" that his mother had shown him last night, and then he recalled the "police beating criminals video" that had caused a sensation a year ago. He thought to himself that it was fortunate he wasn't on camera, because it was never a good thing when he was on camera.
"Hehe, I'm too ugly to go for it."
"You're being too modest. By the way, when are you free? Come to my office sometime. I have something I'd like to discuss with you."
This Dawn Grid belongs to Zhengming District, and therefore is also under the jurisdiction of the District Special Police Brigade.
Today I was bored out of my mind, so I thought it would be good to have something to do. Chen Shu, who can't stand being idle, agreed without thinking.
"Okay, I'll head over this afternoon. Still at Dawn Grid, shall we?"
Another burst of silvery laughter came from the other side, followed by a somewhat smug voice saying, "It's changed, transferred to Yangyi Street."
Chen Shu was taken aback. Yan Chenxi had only been working in the grid management system for a year, and she went to the street office right on time. Had she been promoted?
