Chapter 32 On-site Situation
Chapter 32 On-site Situation
Based on the on-site renovations, the house appears to have been rented by a professional subletter.
Apart from a 1.2-meter-wide corridor, the entire house has been partitioned into five rooms and a toilet, with no extra areas such as a living room or kitchen.
So-called professional subletters are people who first rent an entire house from the original landlord, usually signing a lease for several years. They then invest money to renovate and partition the house, and finally sublet the partitioned rooms to others, profiting from the process.
A few years ago, the government organized several joint efforts by multiple departments to crack down on such behavior, but the city has been demolishing urban villages and old residential buildings.
Over the years, the cheap small houses have mostly disappeared, leaving only large apartments or expensive residential complexes. This situation has led to a supply shortage in the affordable rental market.
Taking into account the city's development and construction, the city will allow sub-landlords to resolve issues related to fire safety and water and electricity installation in the rental properties, as well as ensure proper registration of the residents' identities.
In fact, with social progress and development, some new things will definitely emerge.
Chen Shuyi has personally participated in the cleanup of shared rental apartments. He gained a deep understanding of this when he followed the street workers to clean up shared rental apartments one by one.
However, shared rental housing without government oversight is indeed very dangerous.
It may be because ordinary people do not understand the importance of fire prevention and electrical safety.
Of course, the leaders are all sensible people. After a period of rectification, these types of houses will be included in security management, and apart from the police station, it will be a win-win situation.
The police station has taken on another social management task, and the higher authorities have consequently allocated more staff or budget to it. However, for ordinary people, it is indeed a good thing.
It must have been close to noon, because the door to the room directly opposite the toilet was closed, while the doors to the other four rooms were open, and judging from the noise, there were people inside.
The room with the door closed should be the one Huang Sisi and her colleague share. Based on what she said earlier, the other four rooms belong to the other four families who share the apartment with them.
Chen Shu, dressed in casual clothes, walked back and forth in the corridor, and without disturbing anyone else, roughly figured out the situation of the other tenants in the house.
The room next to the front door wasn't large. Inside, a young man in his early twenties wearing glasses sat slumped on the sofa, basking in the sun while holding a horizontally held cell phone with a serious expression.
On the small coffee table next to the sofa were two bottles of Coke, one empty and the other still half full.
This is definitely a "King of Glory" game; I wonder if you got so frustrated in the game that you drank soda, making you even more full—it was so satisfying...
Chen Shu glanced at it, and for some reason, he felt a strong conviction in his heart.
I'm sure fellow gamers can relate.
In the next room, there were four people: two adults and two children. They seemed to be a family. Two children, around eight or nine years old, were hunched over a small round table, writing their summer homework stroke by stroke.
The woman, presumably the mother, was standing by the only window in the room, cooking with an induction cooker. The father, meanwhile, was leaning against the headboard, looking at his phone. As Chen Shu passed by the door, he put down his phone and glanced outside.
The family of four were all busy with their own things, which was quite ordinary... Chen Shu pondered for a moment and continued walking down.
Passing by Huang Sisi's room, the fourth room came into view.
There were two young men in the room, one sitting cross-legged on the bed and the other sitting upright in a chair by the door.
Both were wearing headphones, holding their phones in both hands, and shouting out terms specific to the game "Peace Elite," their excitement palpable. "Upstairs, throw a grenade!"
"Why throw a grenade when there's only one person? Just send a flashbang and charge up with Dad!"
"Son! Holy crap, you blinded your dad!!!"
"Grandson, what are you doing standing at the top of the stairs! You're blocking your grandpa's way, hurry up and get out of there!"
"Damn it, which bastard cheated on me?!"
The happiness of young people is so easy and simple. Chen Shu stood by the door, feeling the warm greetings and care between the two young people, and couldn't help but feel emotional.
I suddenly miss my college roommates' sons. I wonder how they're doing...
As Chen Shu walked to the door of the next room, he saw a young man inside also walk to the door, peek out at Chen Shu, and then prepare to close his own door.
Chen Shu took a few quick steps, reached out and blocked the door that was about to close, then pushed it in with a little force. Just as the door was pressed against the other person's body and did not move, a face was revealed.
He peeked through the crack in the door and saw a disheveled boy, about ten years old, squatting by the door leading to the balcony at the far end of the room. The boy was facing away from Chen Shu and seemed to be smoking.
Chen Shu turned his gaze to the young man who was leaning against the door frame, preparing to close the door.
He smiled and said, "I'm a friend of the girl who lives in the next room. She lost her phone, so I came to check on it."
Since we've already added each other on WeChat, it's not wrong to call each other friends... Chen Shu explained this to himself, while casually adding on the surface:
"My friend is quite sad."
He deliberately created an atmosphere of 'I came here specifically to find my phone,' then squinted his eyes and quietly observed the other person's expression.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that the boy who had been squatting and smoking in the room had stood up and turned to look in his direction.
It's a pity that he still has to keep an eye on the young man and put pressure on him, otherwise he could probably find out something by glancing at the child a few times... Chen Shu stared straight ahead without changing his expression, secretly thinking to himself.
After hearing what Chen Shu said, the young man blocking the door visibly tensed up, his gaze skipping over Chen Shu and looking behind him.
When he realized Chen Shu was alone, his expression visibly relaxed. He paused for a few seconds, then resolutely said:
"I don't know anything about this. I'm closing down."
After saying that, he pried Chen Shu's fingers off the door frame one by one, and then closed the door.
"boom!"
Seeing that the door was closed, Chen Shu stopped thinking about it.
