Police officer Chen Shu
Chapter 2 Criminal Investigation Team Arrives
Chapter 2 Criminal Investigation Team Arrives
Chen Shu took the printed transcript and walked to the observation room next to the interrogation room.
He handed the transcript to Zeng Hong and said in a deep voice, "Instructor Zeng, this should be a kidnapping case. The hostage's family is quite wealthy; the kidnappers probably kept an eye on things for a while before making their move."
Zeng Hong took the transcript and put it aside, his expression grave: "Ten million in ransom, these kidnappers have quite the appetite. Last week, a female police officer died in Cangbei County, also from a kidnapping. And now, just a few days later, we have another kidnapping case."
He paused, tapping his knuckles lightly on the table, and added, "You go and continue the questioning. I'll call Director Ren from the Criminal Investigation Department right now."
Chen Shu nodded and left.
He returned to the interrogation room, glanced at the interrogation time displayed on the computer's recording software, and then scanned the densely packed transcript. He had a rough idea of what to do next.
If it is confirmed to be a kidnapping case, then at this point nearly twenty hours have passed since the hostage was taken hostage, which is enough time for the kidnappers to take the hostage to any corner of the city!
Chen Shu tapped the table, his face serious: "Do you know where your wife was planning to go last night?"
“I don’t know, but she always goes out when I go out for social events. As for where she goes, she didn’t tell me this time.” Zhao Hu thought for a moment and said, “This morning I contacted a few of her close friends, and they didn’t know either.”
Did your wife drive or take a taxi when she went out last night?
"I'm not sure, but I usually drive."
Can you confirm what time your wife left home?
"do not know"
"Is it possible that your wife was home that night and then went out during the day today?"
"do not know"
Oh no, the crime spanned quite a long period of time!
Upon hearing this, Chen Shu felt a sense of urgency and became secretly anxious.
Sitting next to Chen Shu, police officer Li Chaoyang, who was meticulously entering the statement word by word into the computer, handed over a document and said:
"Senior, this is the on-site report record form given to you by Ma Ming, who handled the case. Take a look."
Chen Shu took the on-site report record form and quickly scanned it. He saw that it clearly stated the information of the person who reported the case, the physical characteristics of the hostage, the time when Zhao Hu received the call from the kidnapper, the phone numbers of both parties, the content of the conversation, and some details were also recorded.
The phrase "The complainant's wife's car was parked in a nearby roadside parking space" was roughly circled twice with a pen, and a Polaroid photo was attached next to it.
Knock knock! We've found a contact point that Zhao Hu stated.
Chen Shu picked up the color photo on the record sheet, facing it directly to Zhao Hu, and asked, "Did you park this car or did your wife park it? Do you usually park your car on the side of the road?"
Zhao Hu squinted and looked at it: "My wife parked it here. There are very few parking spaces in our community, so we usually park our car on the street outside. There's a steakhouse right next to here, and our community is just a few steps away!"
Ma Ming, who handled the emergency call, proved to be a veteran comrade. After handling the scene normally, he discovered the key points and suspicious points, and then subtly expressed his thoughts.
Time is of the essence. We now have a general understanding of the case and have preliminarily determined the location of the incident, which is most likely on the road between Zhao Hu's house and the Lamborghini parking spot.
Zhao Hu is slow-paced and hesitant. We might be able to extract some more information from him in the case, not much, but it will take some time.
I need to hurry up and go to the scene to investigate, check the elevator or building surveillance footage, and determine the exact time of the incident... Chen Shu made a silent decision.
After thinking for a moment, he casually clicked "Print Record," picked up the printed record paper, the on-site police report form, and Liu Yan's photo, pointed at Zhao Hu, and then walked out.
"Chaoyang, I'm leaving the rest to you. Follow all the procedures, continue asking the questions you need to, and send me an electronic copy of the transcript via WeChat after you're done. Oh, and send me a few more photos of Liu Yan. Once everything's ready, take him to the crime scene!" "Crime scene? Where?" Li Chaoyang looked up from his computer screen, a puzzled expression on his face.
“Parking spaces in the large residential area near his house are always full; they don’t wait for you to come back, especially at night.” Chen Shu explained before leaving the interrogation room, the next sentence seeming to be a whisper to himself:
"Unless she decides to take a taxi at the last minute. In any case, we need to go to the scene to confirm."
As he walked, he pondered the relevant information on the record sheet, when unfortunately he was stopped by an old policeman with a rank of "two bars and three" hiding outside the door.
The veteran police officer's hair was already in his fifties, and although his eyes were sharp and bright, one could still feel the traces of time. His slightly hunched body still faintly revealed the robust and upright figure of his younger days, and although his police uniform was still navy blue, it was noticeably faded and washed to a pale white.
"Ren Da?" Chen Shu saw the old policeman in front of him and wondered why the criminal investigation team had arrived so quickly, and why the top officer had come directly!
This case is definitely not simple, Chen Shu thought to himself.
Perhaps sensing Chen Shu's doubts, Ren Da patted him on the shoulder and said with a smile, "I knew about this when your duty station contacted us earlier. I immediately started arranging for people to come over. Come on, let's talk over here."
The two went into the observation room next door.
In the observation room, besides Zeng Hong, there were two other young men in plain clothes.
Ren Da, holding Chen Shu's hand, introduced him to the other two: "This is Chen Shu, the officer with the highest case-solving rate in our branch over the past few years. He's the one that Master Li from the Legal Affairs Brigade has been talking about—someone who's both literate and skilled in martial arts."
By the way, Xiao Zhao, you used to work in the city's special police unit; he held several shooting records there.
In addition to solving cases and arresting people in the common sense, the later legal procedures and document preparation are also of paramount importance in police investigations. In cases that are complicated, they may even have to deal with the procuratorate. The work involved is no less than that of solving the case.
Thinking of this large-scale kidnapping case, and seeing that the two men in front of him were both in plainclothes, Chen Shu knew they must be police officers from the Major Crimes Unit. He smiled and waved his hand, modestly flattering them, "These are just petty theft cases, nothing compared to your Major Crimes Unit. By the way, this is the statement from the hostage's family in the kidnapping case. We haven't handled any major cases before, so there might be some problems with the statement. Please excuse us."
When the "Major Crimes Unit" was mentioned, both young men raised their eyebrows slightly, showing a growing liking for Chen Shu, whom they had never met before.
As Chen Shu spoke, he handed the transcript to Ren Da.
Ren Da took the statement, glanced at it briefly, and handed it to the two officers from the Major Crimes Unit beside him, instructing them, "You two go next door. Go through this statement before you start questioning. Go on."
The two officers from the Major Crimes Unit nodded and left.
Standing to the side, Chen Shu thought to himself that now that the people from the Criminal Investigation Department had arrived, he probably wouldn't have anything to do next.
Just as he was about to take his leave, Ren Da suddenly said, "I overheard you talking outside the interrogation room, it seemed like you were planning to go to the scene to take a look?"
Chen Shu scratched his head, somewhat embarrassed: "Ren Da, I just heard in the interrogation room that it was a big case, and I got a little flustered. Since you're here, I definitely have to step down."
Ren Da lowered his head and thought for a moment, then said, "Here's what we'll do. The crime scene happens to be in your jurisdiction, so you're definitely more familiar with the place than we are. Go to the scene first and see what's going on. If you find anything, you can contact us directly."
Chen Shu was somewhat surprised, but whether or not he could go to the scene to continue the investigation was not up to Ren Da. He turned his head and looked towards the position of instructor Zeng Hong.
Zeng Hong didn't speak, but simply nodded slightly.
As Chen Shu was about to leave, Ren Da stopped him again, saying, "This case is no small matter, be careful."
