Chapter 485 The Change of the Ring

Chapter 485 The Change of the Ring
Lin Chen dared not move.

These ugly monsters were not very large, probably only about 30 centimeters in length. They had sharp teeth that seemed to pierce through the mouth, sharp claws, and a pair of gray-black eyes that lacked the liveliness of living creatures and were filled with death, making them terrifying to behold.

Lin Chen could kill several of these monsters with a single palm strike, but now they were densely packed around him, layer upon layer, stretching into the darkness beyond the reach of the firelight. There were probably thousands or even tens of thousands of them.

If they swarm in, even Lin Chen, a man of iron, wouldn't be able to withstand it.

Lin Chen finally understood why the five skeletons he had seen earlier were covered in blood but had no flesh or blood. Clearly, all the flesh and blood had entered the monsters' bellies the moment the cultivators were killed.

Lin Chen was surrounded, and all he could do was pray that these monsters would be afraid of fire.

Suddenly, a monster flapped its wings and flew up, pouncing towards Lin Chen.

Lin Chen's heart sank. He took a step back, leaned against the wall, and struck out with his palm, instantly killing the monster.

The next second, countless monsters flapped their wings and took flight, many of them rushing towards Lin Chen.

Lin Chen naturally wouldn't sit idly by and wait to die. He instantly returned to the burning house, and the next second, countless bricks and stones mixed with countless flames flew in all directions.

The monsters that pounced on them fell to the ground, but as soon as they fell, more monsters pounced on them, tearing their corpses to pieces and swallowing them whole, leaving only dark bloodstains on the ground.

Lin Chen brandished two burning wooden sticks, using the flames to drive away the dense swarms of monsters that were rushing towards the entrance of the house.

These monsters were indeed afraid of fire and would instinctively avoid flames, but there were too many of them. Lin Chen's hand, which was wielding the fire stick, was attacked first. One of the monsters tore a large gash in his hand, and blood immediately flowed out.

Blood flowed down his finger and onto the ring he had picked up earlier. The blood was instantly absorbed into the ancient patterns on the inside of the ring, and then the entire ring suddenly began to glow. The light converged and instantly transformed into a beam of light and shadow, like a 3D projection.

Lin Chen was stunned by this sudden scene. He recognized the figure at a glance as the refined middle-aged man he had seen on the mountain earlier.

The middle-aged man's light and shadow seemed to have a life of their own. With a casual flick of his wrist, a point of golden light instantly appeared in the air. Then, the golden dot of light rapidly expanded like a bubble, and wherever the golden halo touched, the monsters that came into contact with it immediately plummeted to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, it seemed as if a rain of monsters was falling from the entire sky.

The golden halo expanded to a diameter of 100 meters, then turned into specks of light and dissipated into the air, while a dense layer of monster corpses appeared on the ground.

However, the monsters a hundred meters away remained densely packed, seemingly unaware of fear, flapping their wings once more and swooping towards Lin Chen in the center. The middle-aged man frowned, turned around, smiled slightly at Lin Chen, and then pointed a finger at Lin Chen's brow. The man's image slowly dissipated.

The monsters swarmed over, and just as Lin Chen was panicking and preparing to retreat back into the fire, the monsters suddenly seemed to encounter something terrifying. They turned around in a panic, flapping their wings in great fear, and quickly moved away from Lin Chen. They only stopped when they were more than ten meters away from Lin Chen.

Under the firelight, an extremely eerie scene unfolded.

The ground was littered with monster corpses. Lin Chen stood in front of the firelight, amidst these monster corpses. Within a ten-meter radius hemispherical area around him, there were no monsters, but beyond ten meters, there was a dark mass of them.

Lin Chen's emotions went through several ups and downs, but he finally calmed down a bit. He tried to take a few steps forward, and then he was pleasantly surprised to find that the monsters in front of him were retreating in terror, and only stopped when they were more than ten meters away!

Lin Chen was overjoyed, recalling the middle-aged man's finger that touched his forehead with light and shadow. This middle-aged man had killed many monsters with one move, but he found that the monsters seemed endless, so he instead cast some kind of mysterious spell on himself, like giving himself a fear buff. The effective range of this buff was ten meters.

More and more houses were burning nearby, and the flames were rising into the sky.

Lin Chen picked up his flashlight and the backpack of the slain team, then ran frantically into the distance.

This flame might attract other Grandmaster teams. If they see this, I won't be able to explain myself at all. If I leave the dungeon and go back outside, won't I be targeted by everyone?

Too dangerous!

Lin Chen just wants to get back to the sunlit world as soon as possible!
After running for an unknown distance, the feeling of being watched disappeared. Lin Chen stopped and shone his flashlight around, but he didn't find any monsters.

They actually let me go?

Lin Chen was overjoyed. After calming himself down, he finally had time to raise his hand and look at the brass ring on his right ring finger.

The ring remained unchanged, seemingly without any alteration.

Lin Chen gently reached out and stroked the ring, but just as his hand touched the ring, another unexpected event occurred!
