Chapter 93 Wolf Beast
Chapter 93 Wolf Beast
Familiar process, familiar place.
The familiar workstation and computer.
It felt just like coming home.
Hugh sat in his computer chair, looked at the two boxes he had brought in, one large and one small, then looked at the empty seats around him, and then let out a loud sigh, completely losing his composure.
He suddenly realized that although this dream world was full of all sorts of mysteries, there was one good thing about it.
This dream, filled with familiar elements, became, to some extent, a place for him to vent and channel some of his emotions. Although he could also find a secluded spot in Vane to rant and rave, the effect would ultimately be different.
As before, Hugh did not head straight for his target, but instead quickly "patroled" the space.
This time, Theseus did not appear.
However, Hugh saw an on computer in the spot where he had been last time, with the strategy game he was playing still paused on the screen... It seemed that after not seeing him for a while, this guy was no longer satisfied with the war sandbox and had switched to a well-known space strategy game.
Hugh glanced at the game interface and realized that Theseus's game had actually entered the final, garbage time... victory was just one step away.
"He must have a lot of free time."
Hugh shook his head. He really couldn't figure out Theseus's quirks or what he did on a daily basis. Could there really be some kind of "internet addiction god" in this world?
Should we take him for electrotherapy too?
Out of respect for others' gaming experience, Hugh didn't touch the computer and walked away.
Hugh felt a little disappointed that he didn't get to see Theseus. It wasn't that he missed him that much, but he really wanted to have some discussion with Theseus about the lost gods and the Black Sun Society.
"Never mind, let's get down to business first."
Hugh returned to his original position. He first picked up the metal box containing ten fangs of the forest short-tailed wolf, and then, relying on his memory, followed the corridor to a huge floor-to-ceiling bookshelf near the edge of the black mist.
The place is filled with all sorts of game industry reference books, but most of them are brand new. Apart from artists occasionally flipping through some of the art books for reference or inspiration, the rest of the design reference books are rarely touched.
As for books that promote company culture and explain internet company marketing strategies, they are rarely read.
However, high up on this bookshelf, there is a very conspicuous empty space.
In Hugh's memory, there should have been a series of merchandise launched by the company in a certain year. He remembered very clearly that there should have been a series of five items. However, now, there were only five empty black bases with nothing on them.
"Hmm... this is it."
Hugh nodded, then dragged a wooden chair out of a small meeting room nearby used for interviews, and, as the mage apprentice had instructed him, found some gloves and two pairs of tweezers.
Although he wasn't sure if these plastic gloves, originally from another world, could actually block magical venom, ever since the incident with the Mirror Messenger, Hugh had become wary of the benefits the Dream Sanctuary "provided" for him. He had to be careful that each future exchange might bring him additional risks.
As Hugh stood on the chair, the mist that had been sealing the empty bases slowly emerged.
Hugh examined the strange characters formed by the black mist in front of him. After confirming that they were correct, he put on several layers of gloves and picked up the metal tweezers.
He felt like a student entering a chemistry lab for the first time.
Hugh opened the metal box, and the black characters in front of him immediately began to writhe as if they had smelled delicious food. This time, they revealed a form completely different from what Hugh had seen before.
Under Hugh's gaze, the words rapidly formed mouths the size of fists, resembling the muzzles of hounds or wolves. Between the opening and closing of these mouths, Hugh could even see rows of sharp teeth formed by black shadows.
"Could it be some kind of summoned creature again?"
Hughes frowned.
In fact, in his own judgment, he urgently needs to further improve his magical abilities, either in terms of his magical reserves or in terms of learning and manipulating magical skills. In comparison, he doesn't really need magic that can summon creatures or directly cause damage, since these things can be compensated for by Vaan's current magical system.
"If a dog were to actually live inside the metal disc... it might end up fighting with Sniggy, right?"
Hugh recalled the entanglement between the three guests in the previous disc and couldn't help but purse his lips.
Thinking is one thing, doing is another.
Of course, he wouldn't give up this "benefit" he had already obtained, so he carefully picked up the first fang with tweezers and slowly "fed" it forward.
Those open mouths were like hungry young animals. Faced with the sharp and venomous fangs, they immediately and impatiently bit at them, snatching the fangs away on the spot.
A crisp crunching sound rang out, and in an instant, the fang was reduced to fragments amidst the tearing, fighting, and chewing of those mouths.
At the same time, Hugh saw the shadow of a fang on the far left base behind him. The shadow was very complete and clear, and it seemed that what happened when he "fed" the shapeshifter slime had not happened again.
"It seems there's no problem with the quality; we just need to feed them four more."
Hughes nodded and immediately began to repeat the previous work.
After their first meal, the mouths of these wolves, formed from black mist, seemed to become even more active and thirsty. The thick mist formed saliva between their sharp teeth, which spread outwards with each silent bite. Soon, the second and third fangs were fed in succession.
These mouths, filled with sharp teeth, have grown considerably larger, and their movements have become increasingly ferocious. They even bit off a piece of the tweezers in Hugh's hand.
Seeing this, Hugh became more vigilant. He moved his chair back slightly, then changed the tweezers and continued his previous work.
With the successful feeding of the fifth sharp tooth, the five bases sealed by the mist were also filled. The phantoms of the five sharp teeth floated slowly above the bases. Hugh saw that an invisible thin thread was connecting these sharp teeth together, so they left their bases and formed a neat circle in the bookshelf, looking like a necklace or bracelet.
A very active magical power emanated from it.
"finished?"
He looked at everything before him, preparing to get off his chair and wait for further changes to occur, but then he discovered that the hungry mouths of those wolves had not disappeared!
They had grown quite large by now, almost indistinguishable from the mouths of real beasts. However, they did not disappear after the completion of this "exchange" or "sacrifice." Instead, they replaced the black text that had been sealed on the bookshelf and continued to exist. As their sharp teeth continued to collide, a sense of ferocity and greed swept over us.
"As expected, he's restless..."
Hugh shook his head. He realized that these strange mouths were craving the remaining fangs, and it seemed they wouldn't give up until they had devoured these delicacies.
This scene reminded Hughes of the trouble he had suffered with the Mirror Messenger, so he quickly closed the iron box, turned around and went back to the ground.
"Well..."
The moment his foot touched the ground, Hugh heard a strange, crisp sound.
He immediately turned around, only to see that the mouths that had "grown" from the void had now reformed, forming an even larger, more grotesque maw large enough to swallow an ordinary person's head, emerging from the black mist.
But that wasn't the end of it. As the thick black fog continued to expand, the owner of the mouth finally crawled out of the fog.
Hugh didn't know how to describe what he saw.
Upon first seeing it, Hugh immediately thought of a wolf... a "wolf" with an incredibly long and thin body and an exaggeratedly long and narrow mouth.
It slowly emerged from the mist, its form trembling in the darkness, seemingly without any clear outline. On its deformed head, Hugh saw a dense cluster of "red dots".
Those appear to be eyes.
But what wolf would have so many eyes?
Hugh's sense of crisis suddenly erupted. He quickly took two steps back, and the magic power in his body began to operate at high speed. As a result, the black shadow belonging to the Mirror Messenger began to flicker on the surface of Hugh's body. Beside him, the Kalron's Tentacle, which had already undergone its first mutation, or rather, "evolution," appeared. These tentacles, with blade-like segments and resembling black scythes, swayed around Hugh, ready to fight.
The Sprinting Rat was also summoned by Hugh, but as soon as Sniggy appeared, it let out a sharp screech, and its fur stood on end, making its originally slender body appear "fatter".
Clearly, the bizarre wolf in front of him instilled great fear and shock in Sniggy.
"I think this dream sanctuary is probably coming to an end... What's going on? Feeding it doesn't make sense, so why not just come and take it from us?"
Hugh placed the iron box containing the remaining five wolf fangs on the table beside him. He stared intently at the wolf beast in front of him, watching it leap out of the mist in mid-air, its undulating body swaying nimbly before silently landing directly in front of him.
The exaggerated mouth slowly opened, and Hugh saw rows of sharp teeth, as well as countless strange tentacles interspersed among them. These tentacles looked like sharp "long tubes," seemingly used to inject toxins or suck the bodily fluids of their prey...
Those fire-like eyes kept flashing. They were initially focused on the iron box containing the wolf fangs, but after only two seconds, they all turned towards Hugh.
The metal disc began to spin wildly, and the unease in Hugh's mind reached its peak at this moment.
"Theseus, I..."
Hugh couldn't help but curse, but before he could finish speaking, the wolf beast had already leaped up. Its speed was astonishing, and in the blink of an eye, it had crossed several meters of space and was right in front of Hugh.
The tentacles of Karron, which had been waiting in the wings, reacted first. Driven by Hugh's instincts, these tough black tentacles quickly intertwined in front of him, their sharp scythe-like segments pointing outwards, like a black shield covered with deadly blades.
The violent impact struck the very center of the "shield," but the strength of the Kalron's Touch, which had already absorbed the power of the Dark Abyss's offspring, was far greater than before. Under the influence of magic, black, hard keratin quickly appeared on the surface of the tentacles. Then, the tentacles swung violently, and the previously intertwined blades immediately cut forward.
Amidst a series of sounds, the surrounding tables, chairs, equipment, and carpets on the ground suffered severe damage. The chair that Hugh had used as a footrest was even sliced into pieces by the sweeping black tentacles.
However, this swift counterattack failed to hit its target.
The twisted wolf seemed to possess some special ability, disappearing the instant it was attacked. But then, its figure emerged from the shadows in the corner of the ceiling, its slender body constantly shifting in the dim light, while its two sharp claws at the front viciously slammed down towards Hugh's upper body.
Despite the wolf's bizarre movements, it did not escape Hugh's magical perception. Thus, the moment its figure appeared, Karl's Tentacles, under Hugh's command, swept out into the air. Before the wolf could fall, these tentacles of various shapes struck its body.
Hughes saw that the serrated and corrosive blades on Karl's tentacles had viciously pierced the wolf's body. He quickly stepped back, clenched his fist, and the tentacles that had successfully pierced the wolf's body immediately began to pull violently in different directions, preparing to tear the strange beast's body to pieces.
However, the strange phenomenon that had occurred before happened again.
The moment Hugh gave the command, this ferocious beast, possessing some strange ability, seemed to transcend time and space, forcefully breaking through the seal of the Touch of Karron and arriving directly in front of Hugh. Its large mouth, filled with sharp teeth and tentacles, opened wide and then bit down hard on Hugh's head.
With a soft click, its teeth snapped shut!
