Chapter 557 Invasion
No matter how grateful Xiao Weiyi's family is to this mysterious kind person, Jiang Hui remains unaware of it for the time being.

She was also extremely troubled by the situation. Honestly, she had never encountered anything like this before… What on earth was going on?
Jiang Hui had just survived a murder not long ago, and had only recently left the military law department, when she unexpectedly encountered this... this is going to kill her!

After running out of the bookstore, Jiang Hui also fled quickly with the crowd, wanting to leave this place as soon as possible.

But soon, Jiang Hui discovered that things were not so simple—they were very likely unable to escape from the building, at least not until things calmed down.

This shopping mall was originally designed to be the tallest building on the west side of the building, and its overall design is inspired by the characteristics of water. To create that flowing, crystal-clear feeling, nearly one-third of the building's facade was made of lithium silicate sand, which gives it a crystal-like luster when sunlight shines on it, a truly ingenious design.

However, facing the attack of the star beasts, this side naturally became their entry point, as it offered a clear view of the mall's internal structure and situation. Furthermore, compared to aerospace-grade materials, lithium-silicon sand was easier to work with, preventing it from being impossible to break open.

The continuous, violent impacts damaged part of the building's energy supply system, rendering various teleporters, conveyor belts, ladders, and passageways unusable. People could only escape on foot from the upper levels where the star beasts were concentratedly attacking.

Jiang Hui has good physical strength, and the training he has received over the years is also impressive. He quickly descended more than ten floors.

However, there were too many people, and besides the attack on the group of Azure Winged Dragons from the outside, some small and medium-sized Star Beasts started to run in after the upper wall broke. As soon as they entered, they caused a lot of damage. In addition to maliciously attacking the crowd, their main purpose was to help the dragons successfully break into the building.

If all those things come down, there's no need to wait for rescue; they're all doomed.

Jiang Hui realized that he couldn't escape on two legs; most people couldn't escape.

With more and more passageways being damaged, more and more people are dying silently while trying to escape...

Jiang Hui finally couldn't stand it anymore.

She wasn't capable enough on her own, but using a mecha could be of some help, so she'd save as many as she could, even though she didn't know if such a rescue was worthwhile.

Jiang Hui felt immense regret that Songbai was not by her side in this situation.

As if things weren't bad enough, Songbai was detained at the military headquarters for investigation due to a cheating scandal. Therefore, Jiang Hui only had one mech, WALL-E, the first mech she had ever built entirely on her own.

It was a bit ugly, but it was definitely usable. Jiang Hui couldn't care less about that now. She quickly released the mecha from the spatial button, swiftly entered the cabin and took control, then moved through the various fault lines, rescuing those who were separated from their groups whenever she could find a spot. Surprisingly, she actually managed to rescue quite a few people.

She couldn't be perfect in every aspect. After all, WALL-E was only a Class D mech, and it was all made from discarded machines, so its performance was limited. She didn't dare to make any big moves lest she destroy it.

Furthermore, she couldn't possibly carry all these lone individuals down to the next level like dolls; that would be too time-consuming. The best approach was to give them a hand and help them smoothly rejoin the main group.

Finally, seeing that it was about time, she brought the injured family of three from the twelfth floor to the first floor.

The child's father had a severe arm injury. Lithium silicate itself contains radiation and toxins; if it's directly embedded in the arm and not treated promptly, the bleeding will continue unabated. So, Jiang Hui used the nearby teleporter to pass him a bottle of healing potion; that was all the help she could offer.

It seemed the last group of people coming down from the second floor had encountered some trouble. Jiang Hui looked over and saw several wild mechs rushing towards them. After assessing the situation, he went over as well. Fortunately, it wasn't anything serious. The mechs that volunteered for the rescue worked together seamlessly, taking turns setting up "ladders" to allow the disheveled survivors to return to the main group from the damaged area on the second floor. The makeshift rescue operation finally came to an end.

But this is only the beginning—

Under the combined attack of the external star beasts, the building's entire system had completely malfunctioned. It was dark outside, but the cries of various alien beasts could be clearly heard. They could tell that a considerable number of star beasts were crowding outside, as if they were about to pounce.

The people on the first floor had no doubt that if they broke through the door and went out, they would probably be torn to shreds by the star beasts crouching outside.

But... if they stay here, and those blue-winged beasts break through the lithium-silicon sand window barrier to get in, they'll die just the same way.

This is a dead end.

The survivors at the scene were almost all ordinary people, and many of them were parents who had brought their children out for a holiday.

The older children, already aware that they might be in an extremely dangerous situation and might never see the light of day again, clung tightly to the only toy they could still hold onto, huddled close to their parents. The younger children, still unaware of the danger, were terrified by the series of events and cried loudly, while their parents could only patiently comfort them. Some parents, however, silently shed tears because their child or partner was injured.

No one knew what their next step was, or whether they would actually receive rescue from the military.

Jiang Hui anxiously checked his personal computer in the cabin and found that all communications were down, many functions were restricted, and pages could not be updated.

Just as she was about to close the browser, a communication message suddenly popped up on the screen.

Jiang Hui answered the call without even seeing who the contact was. It was Jaidi—

Although they weren't military personnel like Stark, whom she currently most wanted to contact, the members of Class Two were still the group that Jiang Hui most wanted to know the situation about.

She was on the first floor, but she didn't see a single familiar figure in the crowd, which made her feel uneasy.

Before Jiang Hui left, they were still strolling around the underground corridor. She had only been in the bookstore for a few dozen minutes; she hoped these people wouldn't still be there!

She desperately hoped they had left the underground corridor and reached a safe place...

Unfortunately, things often don't go as planned.

On the other end of the computer, Jaidi looked disheveled and terrified, as if he had turned ashen. Behind him, shadowy figures sat or stood, creating a tense atmosphere. Jiang Hui was certain that the other person was in this dark and cramped place, which was definitely not the safe place she had imagined; it was probably even worse than this.

Before Jiang Hui could ask, the person opposite her noticed the mechanical background behind her, and their pupils suddenly flashed with a bright light: "Jiang Hui, you're... in a mecha?! Reinforcements have arrived?"
