The Most Powerful Brain in the Interstellar Space
Chapter 553 Shocking Change
Chapter 553 Shocking Change
Perhaps some people think he's making a mountain out of a molehill—
Twenty-four shots are only two more accurate than twenty-two shots, not much difference.
Only he himself knew how much he had sacrificed to achieve this result: countless points, diligent practice day and night, and even seeking guidance from renowned teachers... which indeed significantly boosted his performance. For this, he was willing to give up some projects to specialize in one.
Even so, he still couldn't compare to Jiang Hui, who clearly had her own strengths. Jiang Hui had obviously learned more and more diverse skills; was S-level mental strength truly so insurmountable?
In fact, Jaidi knew that Jiang Hui's ability to achieve this level was not solely due to her S-level mental strength. Back when Jiang Hui led a group to victory in the orienteering competition, she wasn't even an S-level Awakened yet; what advantage could she possibly have?
This time he performed exceptionally well, in a state he had never been in before, and even he himself felt he couldn't surpass it. Yet, in the end, he still lost. Within a few short minutes, he was drenched in sweat, his heart pounding, yet still basking in his own victory. His opponent, on the other hand, played with complete ease; the difference in skill was immediately apparent.
At that moment, Jaidi felt utterly desperate, clearly realizing the vast difference between himself and this person.
Is it really not going to work...?
He didn't know how long he had been in a daze when he heard someone speaking in front of him, seemingly asking him a few questions. He responded somewhat absentmindedly.
“…Let’s do as I said before, and give it to her,” the boy said in a low voice, looking as dejected as a wilted eggplant.
The stall owner nodded silently, then looked at Jiang Hui, his voice a little hoarse: "Young man, what do you want to redeem?" He had already gone up to check the two people's accuracy, and it was completely in accordance with the rules, so with the other party's accuracy, they were sure to win one of the top prizes.
His face turned even paler, making him look somewhat fragile, but it was clear that he was putting on a brave face, his back was very straight, and his emotions seemed somewhat calm, not at all like someone who had just lost hundreds of thousands of interstellar coins.
Jiang Hui glanced at the other person and sighed inwardly. How did this happen to her?
Although the items were very attractive, how could she possibly sell them?
Everyone was watching, waiting for her choice. There was no doubt she would ultimately only have one option; this was a golden opportunity. Even though these children seemed to come from well-off families, who could refuse more Star Coins?
"Can we exchange them separately?" Jiang Hui asked.
The person opposite her widened their eyes in surprise, the flesh on their neck twitching as if they were barely suppressing their emotions. Those around them also glanced at her with some astonishment, and the surrounding crowd began to murmur amongst themselves. What did this mean?
The other party actually gave up redeeming the jackpot? Did she mean to exchange it for other small, miscellaneous items? Are there really people like that?
Yes, Jiang Hui was just that naive. Seeing that the other person didn't react, she confirmed the situation with them again.
The stall owner seemed stumped by the question and couldn't quite react, but his eyes, which had become much dimmer, suddenly flashed with a few glimmers of light.
"Then boss, can you calculate it and give me a number?" Jiang Hui nodded and said.
After confirming several times, the other party stammered that she could choose any ten items. The value was all in the grand prize; the difficulty lay in meeting all the requirements for the grand prize. The other party met the requirements but didn't choose the most expensive item, so the prize couldn't be quantified, since the rest of the items combined were just a fraction of the total value.
Jiang Hui carefully selected a rather practical little tool. It was supposedly an instrument for detecting amorphous energy, much larger than an energy detector pen, suitable for use on mechs. She didn't really care for the other items. Since she was studying mechs herself, she had bought all sorts of random things over the years for her studies, including mech parts and other high-tech products. She could even assemble some of them herself. Most of the things the stall owner displayed weren't interesting to her; she wouldn't use them anyway.
"Why don't we split it up?" she asked Jaidi, who seemed to have fallen silent beside her, if she wanted anything.
"Don't mention any bets, I didn't agree to that. We're classmates, it's normal for us to compete and encourage each other, so let's skip the bets. This game isn't cheap, consider this a gift from you, thanks. There are still nine slots left, you're the big spender, you can choose the rest yourself."
The other person's expression changed instantly. Just as Jiang Hui thought he was being stubborn and getting stuck on something, and was about to simply help others pick up the scraps, she heard him quietly announce a number. It was one of the items on the second floor, a muzzle loader for a mecha. The model was a bit dated, but it was a classic, with excellent performance, and should be quite suitable for the other person.
This guy... he really does have a bit of a tsundere side. But she still chose to pretend she didn't see it, as a way of giving him a way out. Jiang Hui was quite happy that the other person had finally learned to accept a little bit of kindness from others over the years.
The other party also only chose one. After Jiang Hui asked and confirmed that he didn't want anything, she told the Class Two members present that Jia Yidi was treating today and asked them to share the food. There were only seven or eight people here, which was enough.
What she said was indeed correct. Although Jiang Hui knew Jaidi's personality, it was indeed the other party who proposed the bet. Since they lost, they had to bear the consequences. Otherwise, wouldn't they be able to say and do anything without taking responsibility? So, they decided to let the other party be a generous benefactor. Five thousand interstellar coins was not a small amount. What she said was also correct; it was indeed Jaidi who treated them.
A group of teenagers happily and noisily left the stall with their prizes.
The stall owner, who had suffered a huge loss that day, bowed slightly to Jiang Hui's retreating figure, remaining bowed for a long while. He tucked in the bio-liquefaction tube that had inadvertently peeked out from his sleeve. The other man had glanced at this spot twice earlier and must have noticed it, which was why he made that choice. Truly keen insight, and... also incredibly kind.
He... The young man didn't know what to say for a long time, and could only express his gratitude in this way.
Kids will always be kids; their emotions come and go quickly. Jaidi lost 5000 Star Coins and was just a moment ago acting all grumpy; now his face is a little sour, but you can tell he's already regained his usual smugness.
The others were overjoyed to have received something for free, patting and nudging each other, looking happier than anything else.
Jiang Hui forgot what she was supposed to do because of this interruption. Then, as she was walking towards a certain stall, she suddenly realized that the appointed time was approaching. She suddenly remembered the bookstore, so she had to say goodbye to the group and leave the underground corridor.
That bookstore is not easy to book; if I'm late, I might have to skip it altogether. I need to get there quickly.
But she never expected... that soon, a shocking change was about to sweep across the entire West.
