Chapter 402 Choice
“Just bring Songbai to school,” Stark said to Jiang Hui.

Someone who was halfway through eating: ?
"Can I bring this to school?" Jiang Hui didn't answer immediately. She swallowed the food in her mouth, thought for a moment, and then asked.

Jiang Hui had already witnessed the strictness of Besca Intermediate Academy's rules several months ago, and this was constantly being verified every week on the first night of school. Yet, many people still tried to "test the rules," but most of them were ultimately caught.

Because she had to bring mecha parts to school, she inevitably fell into the trap and was checked multiple times. She even read through the "Besca Intermediate Academy Prohibited Items List (All Nine Volumes)" several times, and so far she has not been honored to be listed in the public criticism list.

Although it wasn't explicitly stated that mechs weren't allowed, they are high-value, high-attack items, so if you actually brought one, the school would probably stop you.

So Jiang Hui hadn't initially planned to bring it to school; she just wanted Stark to drive her home in the Fourth Ring Road after dinner so she could see how to arrange it. She didn't want to pay the price of hundreds of people sharing points for it, but Stark brought it up unexpectedly.

"So where do you plan to put these things?" Stark glanced at him.

Jiang Hui is stuck. Um... where else can I put it besides at home?

“Carry it with you from now on.” Stark interrupted Jiang Hui’s explanation and made the decision for her.

He knew exactly where Jiang Hui planned to put the things, because that seemed to be his intention. The child lived alone, and his apartment was usually unoccupied. Although the interstellar portals were very strictly managed, there was still some danger.

After all, thieves have always existed in every era. People who disregard rules and are happy to break the law have always existed. Even a heavily guarded place like the Imperial Archives has been robbed. Although A-class mechs may not be much in the eyes of the real upper echelons, they are the most coveted treasures for the vast majority of people in interstellar space who need mechs.

Moreover, the pine and cypress trees have a different meaning. They are the last things that the Jiang family, father and son, left to Jiang Hui. Just as the pine and cypress trees are to Jiang Hui, they are also of great significance to Jiang Hui.

The school's regulations are flexible. The school's intention is to prevent students from possessing such large-scale weapons of mass destruction and causing harm to other teachers and students on campus. Furthermore, disputes are likely to arise among students regarding the safekeeping of their belongings. Therefore, the school does not encourage students to bring such high-value and highly lethal items back to school.

But Jiang Hui's situation is also reasonable. She is all alone in her home now, and there is no one to take care of it for her.

“I will explain the situation to the principal on your behalf,” Stark said in a deep voice, “but—”

“I will apply to the school for several locks so that you can’t use them freely during class time.”

Several-block locks are a relatively common type of biological lock in interstellar space. This type of lock was used to transport Jiang Hui's belongings, so its security performance is naturally guaranteed to a certain extent.

Furthermore, while these multiple locks restrict the item's use, only the item's owner and their designated first authorized person can open them. Even if a third party participates, they can only supervise the outcome and cannot influence the item owner's decision.

In other words, if Jiang Hui applied for the locks on the mecha at the school, she can only open them under the time and conditions specified by the school. And only she can open them; no one else, whether from the school or elsewhere, has the authority to use the locks. With the school acting as the third party, if Jiang Hui opens the locks outside of the agreed-upon conditions, it will trigger an alarm on the school's end. Therefore, the school has the right to require Jiang Hui to return the mecha to its original location and to impose a reasonable penalty on her for the violation.

This was the limit of what Stark had planned for Jiang Hui. He was an upright man who rarely did anything so convoluted, yet he had broken the rules time and again with Jiang Hui.

Although his actions were limited and he didn't actually offer Jiang Hui much convenience, he did do do something, which naturally made it somewhat unfair. Stark still acknowledged this.

However, it's impossible to ask him to do anything more; that would be unfair to everyone else, including Jiang Hui. The former is a malicious squeezing out of resources, while the latter is stifling the other person's potential for growth in the name of love. Therefore, Stark believes everything should be done in moderation, and it's best not to let the other person become too complacent.

Stark thought to himself, considering his personality and the possible reactions he might have, and prepared another option for him.

“If… you feel it’s inappropriate, you can leave the mech with me temporarily,” Stark said thoughtfully.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Hui's heart stirred; this was indeed the most suitable method.

Even if Stark hadn't said anything, she herself felt it wasn't safe to leave the items at home. Unfortunately, her so-called home really was just her alone, and once she went back to school, her belongings would be left in the empty house, and if they were stolen, she might not even notice immediately.

But bringing it back to school presented a dilemma. Leaving it with Stark would be a good solution, avoiding any awkwardness, and she trusted that Stark wouldn't covet the pine.

Seeing the expression on Jiang Hui's face, Stark already knew what was going on. His face remained unchanged, but he couldn't tell whether he understood or was disappointed.

Just as he was about to agree, he heard the person on the other end say, "I... I don't need to trouble Uncle Tang for help. I can carry it myself, but wouldn't that make it harder to persuade the school? If the school doesn't agree, then there's no need to force it."

Jiang Hui felt quite embarrassed, because doing so would be tantamount to shamelessly asking someone to pull strings, which was completely against school rules. Stark's intention was to help persuade the school; they had clearly already made arrangements for her.

But then she thought about it and realized that although it would be convenient to leave the things with Stark, and he was someone she absolutely trusted, it wasn't a good idea... It would be convenient, but it would seem irresponsible.

Moreover, this mecha was a keepsake from Jiang's father. Both Jiang and her husband are gone, and the original owner of this body also passed away for some reason, so her soul from another world continued to live in this world.

Jiang Hui knew that she was only able to continue living because of the kindness of the Jiang family. She had no way to repay them, so she could only try her best to live in this other world, at least to ensure that this body bore the name Jiang Hui and lived a life worthy of her name.

But the feeling of owing someone a debt that can never be repaid or repaid left Jiang Hui with mixed feelings and a bitter taste in her mouth, which were hard to describe.
