Chapter 16 First Impression

After Xu Jia left, Jiang Hui packed her things and prepared to complete the procedures to leave the hospital.

Actually, there wasn't much to collect; the few items I had were already on my person, and the potions had been properly placed back into the special storage space created by the spatial lock.

Now all that's left is to complete the discharge procedures.

Although it is an interstellar world where many technologies have advanced to a relatively advanced level that humans can explore, making life more convenient in many ways, there are still many things that cannot be completely replaced by simple automation and still require human operation.

Jiang Hui followed the instructions and completed the discharge procedures at the discharge department. As for the expenses, since the original owner had always purchased comprehensive health insurance, the hospital could reimburse the full amount after submitting the relevant documents for review, and even return a portion of the nutritional expenses to her account.

The whole process was quick. Jiang Hui confirmed and signed the discharge documents, then took the copy of her medical record and left the hospital.

On the way, Jiang Hui unexpectedly ran into Mr. Carlette, who was changing shifts. He was as kind as ever, and did not become cold just because their doctor-patient relationship had ended. After asking about her condition, he warmly offered to take her to the waiting area.

However, Jiang Hui could tell that the other person was obviously not going the same way as her, and of course she didn't want to waste their time, so she politely declined.

There are many modes of transportation in the interstellar era, which, in the eyes of Jiang Hui, a human from Earth, are full of futuristic technology, such as trackless hover trains, airships, modular carriages that can be combined, and deformable trains with fixed tracks, etc.

Besides this, Jiang Hui also saw some large, strangely shaped machines, mostly humanoid, on the road. Her vague memories told her that these were the legendary mechs.

These modes of transportation crisscross the land and the air, each traveling along its own path and stopping at its own stations, without interfering with one another. Each person passing by chooses a different mode of transport, busy with their own affairs, heading towards the same destination in life—in essence, they are not much different from the inhabitants of Earth…

Considering that the original owner's current apartment is located in the fourth ring road of the city, which is relatively close to the city center, and there are many city bus stops there, she finally chose to take the city bus back.

Although it's called a bus, unlike the buses on Blue Star, it doesn't have any wheels. The entire vehicle is supported by a long, slightly curved metal pole suspended several meters above the ground. When arriving at a stop, the support pole lowers the carriage to allow passengers to board and alight. During operation, it is propelled by the metal pole, traveling according to a pre-programmed course.

This is also a common land-based vehicle in cities. It generally travels close to the ground and uses much less fuel than flying vehicles, so it is also very affordable, making it the best choice for students and ordinary office workers commuting.

Although Jiang Hui has some of the original owner's memories, her inner core is still that of a Blue Star person who has not seen much of the interstellar world, and she still does everything with a bit of weakness.

Aside from being nervous and paying attention to the unfamiliar surroundings, she spent the rest of her attention observing what others were doing.

She followed the group of passengers onto the oddly shaped bus, and then, mimicking them, swiped her personal terminal at the checkpoint at the door. The sudden swipe startled Jiang Hui; a large screen of light was projected in front of her, and before she could react to what it was, she stopped in her tracks in fright.

It took her a while to realize that this must be the interstellar people's "cell phone" computer. The original owner's personal information was flashing on it. This information was already in her mind and she was very familiar with it. However, it was still just a layer of memory. No matter how familiar it was, it was never a real feeling.

She looked around and followed the flow of people to find an empty seat and sat down.

Jiang Hui had been preoccupied with many things since being discharged from the hospital and had long forgotten about the quantum computer. But seeing it now, he pulled himself out of his slightly melancholy mood and, unusually, began to study the quantum computer with interest.

Although these city buses are called buses, they don't resemble buses on Earth at all. From the outside, they are completely disc-shaped, and the interior is quite spacious, divided into different sections. Some are arranged in a single row, while others are arranged in two rows facing each other, with partitions at the back, presumably for private compartments.

Jiang Hui chose a seat in the row opposite the door, where she could see the station signs perfectly.

From her angle, it was easy to see that the people on the other side were also fiddling with their personal computers, each one staring intently at the void, either facing forward or at the ground, and some were even staring at their wrists...emmm, indeed, no matter how advanced the technology is in any era, "cell phones" are a calamity that humanity cannot escape.

Jiang Hui sighed for a moment, then resolutely... joined the ranks of those wielding supercomputers. How could she be so ignorant? If she didn't learn something now, was she going to wait for the world to adapt to her?!
The quantum computer was indeed the interstellar version of a "cell phone." Upon logging in, it displayed her login information and then took her to a dazzlingly complex interface.

The slightly narrower interface on the left is neatly arranged, resembling a mobile app, with some icons flashing occasionally. This is likely the user interface; some icons are relatively easy to identify, while others are less clear, requiring me to click on them one by one later.

On the right is a relatively spacious page, with neat and orderly layout, and the order of importance and urgency is immediately apparent.

Jiang Hui struggled to decipher the mass of interstellar language, picking through a few pieces and finding they all seemed to be news or information. Some of the more prominent articles even had visual markers like "recommended" or "hot." So, was this a display screen or a news recommendation section?

It's unbelievable that even though humanity has entered the interstellar age and science and technology have developed so rapidly, the news editors still can't come up with anything new. The news and information layouts are utterly uninteresting, and even the "recommended" labels after the headlines are stuck in outdated aesthetics, lacking any innovation whatsoever.

Jiang Hui was thinking about these irrelevant things, but his hands were actually quite honest. He went into several of the information marked with the word "recommendation," and they were all military information.

She wasn't particularly interested in these kinds of things, just glancing at them. But what she found was astonishing. Almost all of them were things like "General XX goes to war," "XX is promoted to a military rank," or "The military says..." Is the military system in this interstellar world really that transparent? This kind of information can be reported openly and honestly, easily accessed by ordinary citizens, and described in such detail. This was completely different from what she had previously known.

What kind of world is this?
