Chapter 120 The Curtain Falls (Part 2)

Hillman said happily, "Then I told him I made a friend at school. He was very happy and told me to spend more time with you. Oh, and he also asked me to bring a gift over, which I'll give to you later, saying it's to thank you for taking care of me."

Wait a minute! When did I start hanging out with you? What's going on here? It feels like we're on completely different wavelengths. Even a triple jump wouldn't be this abrupt.

Jiang Hui was speechless. She really wanted to say something, but in the end, looking at the other person's face, which was still somewhat immature and indeed quite young, she remained silent.

For a time, one person spoke while the other listened silently, and the scene seemed quite harmonious, until someone suddenly broke the peace.

Hearing someone calling them from behind, the two turned around almost simultaneously.

Jiang Hui subconsciously stood up: "Stark Class Instructor."

Although Hillman didn't recognize the man, he recognized his military uniform, which clearly indicated he was a high-ranking assistant instructor. Seeing Jiang Hui's reaction, he quickly stood up and greeted him.

"Have you finished eating?" He looked down at the plates on the table.

There was nothing particularly meaningful about it; it was just a reminder to the two of them. But at that moment, Jiang Hui and Hillman instinctively felt their wrists tighten around the chopsticks.

"I'm done eating." Jiang Hui's mouth moved faster than her brain.

Actually, she was full, and there wasn't much left. She had listened to too much gossip and had no appetite to finish the rest, so it's true that she finished eating.

"I'm done eating," Hillman chimed in, not to be outdone. But his plate was quite full, and he'd been talking non-stop the whole way, not actually eating. So, his "finished eating" was just something he made up.

"Are you all done eating? How come there's still so much left? Food is hard-earned, don't waste it."

Neither of them dared to speak. The other person seemed to intend to just stand there and watch them eat, with no intention of leaving. So they could only mechanically stuff their utensils into their mouths. Jiang Hui shoved the remaining pieces into his mouth, while Hillman wolfed them down.

The two of them finished the food on the plate in a flurry of activity, unable to taste anything at all; it was utterly tasteless.

Stark was speechless, seeing the two people who looked like they were about to cry from choking. Had he said anything?

"Alright, enough with the nerve of you two... I came here to find you. Since you two are together, I don't need to search separately. Come on, follow me." With that, he turned and left, not even bothering to see if the two people behind him followed.

Jiang Hui and Hillman were naturally completely confused. But out of trust for this Uncle Tang, Jiang Hui followed him, while Hillman went with Jiang Hui. The three of them, this strange group, boarded an airship and left the school.

Along the way, Jiang Hui really wanted to ask Stark what he was doing there. But Stark led them at a rapid pace and then took charge of piloting the airship. Before they knew it, the three of them had stopped in front of a tall building.

Even though Jiang Hui had never been here before, she immediately recognized it as a hospital. It used the same classification as the district-level hospital she had visited before. Only this hospital seemed to be taller and had a larger area.

Stark finally took pity on them and answered their questions: "This is the military hospital on this planet. Someone wants to see you. Come with me."

The hospital, someone wanting to see them… these words immediately brought someone to Jiang Hui's mind. “The Warrant Officer Mays, whom you rescued a few days ago, has woken up today. He and his family have said they want to see you.”

"Don't worry, I've already arranged leave for you, and the school has approved it. There won't be any problems," Stark said casually. Perhaps because they were outside of school, their relationship had somewhat deviated from the serious teacher-student dynamic, his tone and attitude became more relaxed.

He also instructed the two to stay close and not wander off.

Instructor Mays woke up. The two exchanged a glance and then unconsciously quickened their pace to follow him.

They followed Stark, turning all the way to a rarely used elevator, went straight up to the 37th floor, and finally entered one of the wards.

The large room contained only a hospital bed, but was fully furnished. The environment was very spacious, more like a convalescent room.

However, the other person's eyes were still tightly closed, and their face was pale. In just two days, they had become so thin that they looked unrecognizable, showing no signs of having regained consciousness. It was clear that the more than ten hours of rescue efforts had been a life-threatening ordeal.

But as long as he survives, everything else can be recovered.

At this moment, Jiang Hui finally felt a sense of relief, and for a moment she couldn't tell whether she felt relieved or had some other complicated feelings.

Their attention was focused on the person in the bed, and they didn't pay much attention to who else was in the large ward.

But Stark naturally wouldn't overlook them, because the two people present were no ordinary individuals.
Stark removed his hat from the uniformed man standing at the front with his back to them, raised his right fist to heart level, and gave a solemn salute: "Captain Stark of the Eighth Army greets Lieutenant General Mays and Lieutenant Colonel Mays."

The other party's large movements and loud voices immediately attracted the attention of the two children who were completely unaware of what was going on.

Jiang Hui then realized that there were other people in the room, and... was it that lieutenant general?

Seeing the rare look of respect on Stark's face, Jiang Hui didn't even feel the presence of a lieutenant general in the room.

Jiang Hui really wanted to greet him loudly and politely, but she remembered that she wasn't a formal soldier, just a rookie who hadn't even learned a proper military salute. So for a moment she didn't know what to do, and could only straighten her back, wanting to just awkwardly say "Greetings, Lieutenant General."

The man standing by the bed with his back turned finally turned around upon hearing this. He was a very handsome middle-aged man, but both his aura and his expression exuded a solemnity.

The officer, whose face seemed weathered by time, glanced at the two children, slightly relaxing his brow as if trying to ease his overly serious demeanor. But he ultimately failed, and could only say in a slow voice, "You've arrived, Captain Stark."

He then seemed to finally find a bit of a relaxed atmosphere, and said with a slight smile, "These must be Jiang and Hillman, right? Don't be too nervous. You are still students, so there's no need for formalities. You can show respect when you actually join the army."

"In fact, I am not here today as a lieutenant general, but as... the father of this child."

"I've come to thank you for saving my child." He walked up to the two women with a smile, bowed slightly, and patted their heads.
