Zhang Haike turned on the light on his watch and carefully examined the edge of the broken blade, discovering that the crack was not neat.

He carefully touched the broken surface and was surprised to find many small pits on it, as if it had been corroded. "It's so badly damaged, no wonder it broke so easily. Does this layer of scales even secrete venom?"

“I don’t think so.” Zhang Wuxun shook his head. “This ability to corrupt matter can only be accomplished by another kind of energy residing in my body.”

As he spoke, he took the dagger, picked up the broken blade from the ground, pieced the broken ends back together, and then gently ran his thumb over it. The next second, as if by magic, the dagger appeared perfectly intact in front of Zhang Haike.

Zhang Haike looked on in surprise, but he wasn't surprised at all. Instead, he seemed to have figured something out. "No wonder, you have quite a few secrets."

"So, stop trying to test me all the time." Zhang Wuxun's expression turned indifferent.

The watch's brightness could only illuminate a small area, and Zhang Wuxun's figure was mostly hidden in darkness. Only his eyes, when staring at people, seemed like some kind of beast resting in the shadows, carrying an unusual coldness.

In the instant he turned his head, a faint, ethereal light seemed to flash across his eyes, flickering and indistinct, making it difficult to see clearly.

The atmosphere was a little stagnant for a while.

"..." Zhang Haike was somewhat surprised. He opened his mouth as if to explain something, but couldn't find a way to refute it. "...I'm sorry."

“Your existence is too unpredictable, and the timing of your appearance is too coincidental. Our plan cannot afford any mistakes, but we can't completely eliminate you as an outsider. In fact, we need you too…”

Zhang Haike spoke his mind, pursed his lips, and continued, "Moreover, we all know that the next decade may not come again, and even if it does, it probably won't belong to our three generations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

"I know, so I'm just reminding you."

Zhang Wuxun glanced back at him, his eyes curving slightly, as if he had pulled off a sly prank.

Zhang Haike breathed a slight sigh of relief, but recalling the look in his eyes just now, he still felt a chill run down his spine for no reason.

He knew that Zhang Wuxun had already realized that this was a test, and that he himself was the one who orchestrated it.

He didn't know whether pushing this young man to this point would be good or bad for the future.

He could only try to find all the possible leverage and then work hard to accumulate it, so that Zhang Wuxun could become a butterfly capable of stirring up a hurricane.

Zhang Wuxun clearly noticed these things and accepted them readily.

He had no choice but to accept it.

The system appeared when he was a child, silently accompanying him as he grew up, silently instilling in him the obsession with pursuing the truth, and then bringing him into this world, luring him into the game step by step.

After offering sacrifices in the Qinling Mountains, he foresaw that one day he would face an incomparably enormous being.

Humans are irrational animals. Rational reasoning can only yield trends, but it is difficult to guarantee whether a person would act in a particular way under certain circumstances.

When a person gains something, it means that he has given up something he originally possessed; that is the price.

Zhang Haisi paid with his life, and Zhang Menyu probably did too. So, what about him? When everything comes to an end, what price will he pay?

"Let's go." Zhang Wuxun gestured with his chin toward the second cave entrance from the left, without saying anything more.

at the same time.

On a long, downward-facing stone staircase, Wu Xie and Fatty were running frantically. They had been running for an unknown amount of time; their throats were panting like broken bellows, and they looked like they were being chased by a ghost.

Finally, things changed ahead of the stone steps; there was a dark cave entrance.

"Hurry!" the fat man roared in a hoarse voice, "The exit is just ahead!"

"I saw it!" Wu Xie shouted back. Behind him came a rustling scraping sound, getting closer and closer. He subconsciously turned his head to look back.

The entire space was filled with a rustling, frictional sound, as if the branches and leaves were shaking wildly like ghosts clapping their hands when a strong wind blew through the dense poplar forest.

In just a moment, countless gray-white paper figures floated out from the corner of the upper steps, each mouth opening and closing, making a crunching chewing sound.

They have pointed limbs, paper-thin heads, and facial features that are flat, childlike scribbles, making them look very crudely made.

Aside from their stark white color, their shape resembles the red paper dolls that Wu Xie cut out from scraps of paper left over from paper-cutting for Chinese New Year when he was a child.

Unlike others, these paper figures are eerie white, ridiculously tall, fireproof, waterproof, and quite powerful!

The moment Wu Xie turned around, he even saw clearly that the leader was a huge cardboard figure with its backpack strap hanging from the corner of its mouth, staring at him with a fierce look in its eyes and a ferocious expression.

He and the fat man ran all the way here, but all their equipment was scattered and eaten by the cardboard cutouts that chased after them.

God knows how he managed to see the words "cannibalism" so clearly in those flat, expressionless faces.

"Stop, stop, stop -"

The fat man suddenly shouted, "It's empty! There's a dead end ahead!"

"What?" Wu Xie was shocked.

"Holy crap—" The two of them were running too fast in their haste and couldn't brake in time. They stepped into empty air and tumbled down the cliff, barely hanging on the edge.

Wu Xie thrashed about wildly, grabbing onto a protruding rock face with both hands and instinctively pushing forward with all his might, only to crash into a sharp rock, causing blood to gush out instantly.

"Tianzhen, get up quickly and grab that rock next to your head!" The fat man was heavy and fell even lower. He grabbed the protruding stone pillar with one hand, gritted his teeth and pushed Wu Xie's buttocks hard, trying to push him up.

Wu Xie's head was buzzing from the impact. After a while, he finally came to his senses and quickly did as Fatty had told him. He gripped the rock tightly with one hand and pushed off the rock face with his feet. The two of them shouted "three, two, one" and pushed at the same time, leaping up a large section of the cliff and clinging to the edge.

Seeing that Wu Xie had successfully climbed up halfway up, the two were now quite far apart. This position allowed the fat man to straighten his arms, making it easier for him to exert force.

Ignoring his own safety, the fat man held his breath and shouted as he was about to give Wu Xie another push, hoping to help him climb up in one go.

Suddenly, he felt the pressure on his hands lighten, and assumed that Wu Xie had climbed up on his own.

Before he could even feel happy, Wu Xie suddenly flew straight up in front of him as if he were suspended by wires.

Immediately afterwards, a pair of white, thin hands with long, slender fingers reached down from above and poked in front of the fat man's eyes.

"Holy crap!" The fat man gasped, then quickly held his breath, cursing inwardly. When the hell did this paper figure arrive? It hadn't made a single sound. (End of Chapter)
