Tomb Raiding: My Family's Last Clan Chief is Little Brother
Chapter 453 Desperate
Chapter 453 Desperate
"Oh! So that's how it is."
The fat man looked around at everyone in the room, then casually tapped Wu Xie's shoulder a few times with his fingertips, seemingly without any pattern.
Zhang Wuxun glanced over there and, through a combination of guesswork and deduction, roughly understood what the fat man meant.
[Fatty: What's going on? Didn't you come looking for the wooden fish? Where's the fish?]
Wu Xie coughed a few times, covering his mouth with the back of his hand. [The fish might be there, but I can't prove it right now.]
He had just inhaled some yellow smoke, and his cough wasn't out of place among the coughs of the others.
The fat man stroked his eyebrows, and as he turned his head, he replied with a look, "[Which one?]"
Wu Xie casually touched his hair, and Fatty immediately understood. Among everyone present, only two people had long hair, and Zhang Haixing, that hot-tempered woman, was immediately ruled out.
Their conversation ended in an instant.
"Can we ask the people outside the window to move their guns now?" Zhang Haike pointed outside and said, "Your friend is indeed a very capable person. We misjudged him before; he passed the test."
The fat man shrugged, waiting to see what Wu Xie would say.
Wu Xie nodded in agreement, "Things are a bit complicated. I'll explain in detail to you later. Tell the guys outside to put their guns down."
The fat man walked to the window and made a pose like Ultraman unleashing a powerful attack, facing the darkness outside.
Two seconds later, the red dot disappeared, and Zhang Haixing's tense body finally relaxed.
Zhang Haike asked the fat man, "Aren't our friends outside coming in too?"
“He doesn’t need it,” the fat man said. “There are too many people in your room, and he’s socially awkward and easily embarrassed.”
Zhang Haike knew that the fat man's statement was probably just an excuse. How could someone with such cunning and shrewdness truly let his guard down in a completely unfamiliar environment?
Even though the reinforcements outside have now removed the lock, their guns are still aimed at this place.
"How did you manage to do that?" Zhang Haixing asked. "We had already completely cut off Wu Xie's contact with the outside world yesterday."
“I have a brilliant plan.” The fat man raised his eyebrows. “You guys are all quite capable, but you’re too confident. My little friend is innocent and has no fighting ability at all. How could I let him come over here naked and alone? I’ve already planted a listening device on him.”
As she spoke, she pulled something out of Wu Xie's pocket—it was a pack of cigarettes that Wu Xie had bought from the guesthouse owner.
The fat man poured out the remaining cigarettes. At the bottom, there were two layers of paper, with a small black piece, about the size of a fingernail, sandwiched in between, with a red dot on it.
“I can hear everything you’re saying in this room, young ladies. You’re still too green,” the fat man said. “That kind of crude, shouting-and-killing approach is no longer applicable in today’s society. You should go back and train properly for a few more years.”
As they were talking, the fat man's smile suddenly froze, and he took out another, more sophisticated listening device from his cigarette case.
Seeing that his expression was off, Wu Xie hurriedly asked what was wrong.
“There’s another bugging device here,” the fat man said, stunned.
Wu Xie's eyelids twitched, a bad feeling creeping over him. "You didn't put it there?"
"I'll fire my hammer!" the fat man yelled. "Damn it, there's a mantis lurking behind me, get out of here, you idiot!"
The voice just fell.
In the darkness outside the window, countless lasers shot in from all directions, aiming at red dots. Everyone was hit by one, except for Zhang Wuxun, who was standing by the window and was hidden from view, who was completely unharmed.
The people outside were unaware that someone was standing behind the wall next to the window.
The incident happened so quickly, almost in the blink of an eye, that everyone was held hostage, and no one dared to make a move.
"What's going on? Is this also one of your people?" Zhang Haixing squeezed out the words through gritted teeth. This was the first time in her life that someone had pointed a gun at her head twice in such a short period of time. She was so frustrated that she was about to burst into flames.
The fat man scoffed, "Bullshit, where am I supposed to find so many people and weapons? These are guns, not radishes."
Zhang Haixing's expression changed. If it wasn't this fat man's men, then this was a big problem.
As the only survivor who had not yet been killed, Zhang Wuxun spoke up, "It should be another group of people in the Lama Temple, those Germans. I had contact with them a year ago."
The fat man immediately tossed over a crumpled napkin and urged, "Peace Angel, pick up that paper and wave it around. The lives of all the brothers here are in your hands."
“I’m afraid that won’t work.” Zhang Wuxun shook his head. “A year ago, I impersonated a member of the Zhang family and went into the snow mountain with the German team, but in the end, I was the only one who survived.”
Zhang Haixing angrily said, "You killed all those Germans?"
"I didn't do it." Zhang Wuxun refused to take the blame, but he didn't tell the truth either.
“They made no attempt to hide anything after entering the snow mountain. The curse on the Khampa people was applied to them all the same. I almost lost my eyesight before I was lucky enough to come back alive.”
Before Zhang Haixing could say anything more, footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
Everyone looked over and saw two very strong and tall Germans walk in through the door. Up close, they were really as strong as oxen, their bodies were twice the width of Zhang Haixing, and they were almost a head taller than everyone present. They had silver-gray hair and their faces were covered with deep lines.
One of them had a centipede-like burn scar on the skin from his chin to his Adam's apple, and his eyes were sinister—a typical outlaw.
Wu Xie had seen this man before; he was Nick Jones, the German mercenary who had gone missing after being put on the wanted list, whom he had found when he was checking the fingerprints on the lighter.
Zhang Wuxun, who had been leaning against the wall, immediately stood up straight. His gaze swept over the short, stout figure following behind the two Germans. It had been more than a year since he last saw him, and this bearded man had gotten a bit chubby.
Feng did not recognize Zhang Wuxun. After all, a year ago he had short white hair, but now he was dressed entirely as a Tibetan.
Two Germans entered, their sharp eyes scanning the area. They then waved their hands, and the laser beams that had been aimed at the group instantly disappeared. However, this did not mean that all the snipers had completely retreated.
I just told everyone present that they had been watching from the shadows.
After the Germans walked in, the one named Nick crossed his arms and looked at everyone with an arrogant expression; he was clearly playing the good cop.
The other person was much friendlier. From the moment he entered, he greeted everyone in the room with the traditional fist-and-palm salute of old-fashioned gangsters, playing the good cop and saying in broken Chinese, "Excuse me, excuse me, please sit down, please sit down, don't be shy."
Everyone looked at them with expressions that were hard to describe. "Has this foreigner watched too many martial arts movies?" Fatty whispered to Wu Xie.
Nick, who had been wearing a cold expression, suddenly walked up to the two of them, looked Wu Xie carefully, then turned to look at Zhang Haike, and said in a stiff tone, "You two, which one is Bai Ci Zhang?"
“Uh…” Wu Xie’s eyes subconsciously glanced at Zhang Wuxun in the corner, pretending to be Bai Ci from the Zhang family. It didn’t seem wrong to call him Zhang Bai Ci.
Nick immediately turned his head to look in that direction, only to be surprised to find that there was another person there, who had been standing in the shadows of the room without them noticing him at all since they came in.
When his name was called, Zhang Wuxun stepped forward, took out a silver nameplate with gold trim from his pocket and tossed it over, saying in German, "This belongs to Ryan. He died in the snow mountain and asked me to take this out and give it to you before he died."
The people at Quiet Company were managed by the same team that Jude Kao used to lead, and everyone had their own unique nameplate.
Nick glanced at the information on the nameplate, tossed the item to Feng, who had been barely noticeable in the back, and then said to Wu Xie and Fatty, "You two can go now."
"Huh?" Wu Xie was surprised, but he clearly didn't want to leave. This foreigner looked aggressive and seemed ready to interrogate him. He had to keep an eye on him in case Bai Ci got hurt.
No matter how skilled Bai Ci was, he couldn't dodge the bullets that came flying like a swarm of bees.
The fat man asked Nick, "Can we really go?"
“Yes, hurry up and leave.” Nick didn’t even look at the two of them. “What happens here has nothing to do with you. It’s between us and the Zhang family.”
Yes, to this day, Germans still believe that Bai Ci is Zhang's long finger, which is a beautiful misunderstanding.
Wu Xie looked for Zhang Wuxun and found that his expression was still indifferent, not looking at anyone, as if he was in a daze.
"If you're going to leave, hurry up and leave," Zhang Haike said. "We can handle this ourselves."
Fatty knew what Wu Xie was worried about, so he nudged him with his elbow and whispered in his ear, "Anyone here could fight better than the two of us. If a fight really breaks out, the two of us staying here will only be a hindrance."
Wu Xie had no choice but to give up, and together with Fatty, they walked stiffly out of the room like chickens pecking at rice.
The wooden door closed behind the two of them, completely separating them from the inside.
Wu Xie and Fatty turned around and looked at the tightly closed doors and windows, exchanging bewildered glances.
"Where to?" Wu Xie asked.
"Find a safe room. Don't worry, there won't really be a fight here. I've spoken with these Germans before," the fat man said.
Wu Xie was surprised, "Did you really arrange these people? No, these people were already in the lama temple before you came to Motuo."
The fat man gestured for him to be quiet, glanced around a few times, and lowered his voice, "Let's go, let's get out of here first."
Inside the room separated by only a wall, the atmosphere was not as tense as expected, but rather somewhat subtle.
The German leader began communicating directly in German, saying, "Don't be nervous, we will not implicate Mr. White in Ryan's death."
Zhang Wuxun gave a dismissive hum. It was none of his business anyway. When Ryan and the others died, they didn't even see the threshold of the bronze gate. Most of the twenty-odd people were trapped in the bell array at the bottom of the lake, and the rest were all fed to the Maponim.
"Then what do you want with him?" Zhang Haike's expression was not good.
The relationship between the Germans and the Zhang family was neither particularly good nor bad. They were in a state where they could turn against each other at any moment, but they could also join forces when it mattered most, simply because the Germans did not have the Wang family standing behind them.
The Germans found the Zhang family based on clues left by the Judeco Company. Initially, they wanted to cooperate with the Zhang family to find the mysterious celestial stone in the snow mountain.
When the Zhang family heard that they wanted to go into the snow mountain, they were far from giving them a friendly look; they were lucky they hadn't killed them on the spot.
But the Germans were not unprepared; they produced the star chart that Dong Can had failed to send out years ago.
The Zhang family knew that even if the bronze gate in the Himalayas was fake, it was still mysterious. Most importantly, it seemed to be a mirage, using the right time and place to hide itself.
The people who built it back then used the surrounding mountains and snowfields to set up a huge formation. With the changing environment over the years, even the Zhang family would never be able to find the location of the bronze gate without the guidance of a star map.
The Germans, based on a few clues from the deciphered star charts, knew that to enter that place and find what they wanted, they needed members of the Zhang family with special long fingers.
Although the two sides are in a cooperative relationship, they are essentially at odds. Both sides have secretly carried out many underhanded tactics. It's not a life-or-death confrontation, but in short, it's a case of "I can't stand you, but I can't get rid of you."
Their previous collaboration with Bai Ci had given them a glimmer of hope, but after entering the snow mountain, Li Ande and his team lost all faith in each other, and they knew that they had failed again.
They have not yet fully deciphered the star chart, and they still cannot determine the exact location of the bronze door, but there are also unexpected surprises.
The GPS signal hidden in Li Ande's nameplate suddenly appeared in Motuo three months ago, which means that someone in the team at that time came out of the snow mountain alive. Such a possibility is extremely rare, and they need this person to provide them with enough information.
The German began, "I think we need a more private setting to discuss this in detail. What do you think?"
Zhang Longban, who had been sitting at the table sipping tea, finally reacted. "Hai Ke, stay. Everyone else, get out."
Zhang Haixing and the others quickly left the room. Nick, who was next to the German, also went out with them, while Feng stayed behind.
“Mr. Bai, it’s been a long time.” Feng Youshan greeted Zhang Wuxun. “It’s been more than a year since I last saw you. You’ve changed a lot. Back then, I always felt that there was something about you that was out of place in this sacred place, but now, it’s clear that you have completely integrated into this place.”
Zhang Wuxun, however, was unmoved and coldly said, "There's no need for such empty pleasantries; people are tired of hearing them."
Feng smiled helplessly, "Alright, Mr. Bai's temper hasn't changed."
Listening to their conversation, Zhang Haike suddenly said to Zhang Wuxun, "So, the Wu Xie who appeared in Motuo a year ago was actually you."
When Wu Xie appeared in Motuo, they assumed it was the same as before, so they only sent one person to check the situation.
But the Germans acted swiftly; by the time the Zhang family arrived, they had already disappeared into the snow-capped mountains.
