Chapter 425 The Ominous Miasma
Tonight, A-Zhai and Ban Tou are on night watch for the first half of the night.

A-Zhai, being observant, noticed that Da-Fu seemed a bit off when he came out of the tent, stretching and twisting his body several times.

The way he walked looked very mechanical and strange. At first, he even walked unsteadily, as if his legs had gone numb while he was sleeping.

A Zhai was puzzled, so he told the camp leader to keep an eye on the camp while he went after Da Fu to see what was going on.

Ban Tou watched as the two men walked into the darkness of the bushes one after the other, but they have not returned yet.

Ban Tou wanted to report this to Xiao San Ye as soon as possible and then go out to find someone, but Nie Xiao Ba's side discovered Wild Chicken Neck.

The trip to the snake swamp had given Wu Xie and Fatty some experience. There were snakes left in Dafu's sleeping bag, and most of the people were carried away by snakes in the middle of the night.

The fat man sighed, "Based on our experience back then, those two are walking a tightrope on Dongting Lake this time, and they're definitely in big trouble."

Wu Xie stared into the darkness in the distance, then looked back at the dark city wall behind him, and slowly said, "The snakes that were kept in the snake den back then were not completely eradicated. In this jungle, in the swampy areas we haven't yet set foot in, there must still be snake nests with snakes even bigger than pheasant necks hidden."

"So what do we do now? Follow the tracks?" the fat man asked him. "With just this little bit of carambola we have, we haven't even brought any snake venom antivenom. If we go into the woods in this pitch black, we'll be like a rabbit taking a taxi, delivering pork belly right to our doorstep."

Wu Xie shook his head mysteriously, "We don't need to go. Someone has already gone to rescue them for us."

The fat man didn't understand what he meant and hurriedly looked around, but there wasn't a soul in sight. "Who's there? Where is anyone? Where is everyone?"

“People have always been around us,” Wu Xie said.

The fat man was taken aback. "You mean the blind man and Big Flower's men? They caught up with us so quickly?"

"Not them."

Wu Xie took out an oval-shaped stone from his pocket. On the front was a totem of a scorpion sitting on a lotus, exactly the same as the pattern in the Sheba Pearl. On the back was a line of small traditional Chinese characters written in a special red plant juice.

[The person is safe and sound. Enter the city immediately tomorrow; delay may lead to unforeseen circumstances.]

"Holy crap, what's this? Who left you this note?" the fat man exclaimed in surprise, then suddenly remembered their previous analysis. "Oh, I know, it must be some senior from the wooden fish family who trains monkeys, coming to help us."

Wu Xie nodded. "I just found out too. He has always lived here and knows the situation here very well. He has never lost contact with the outside world."

Otherwise, they wouldn't have offered help to people like them who have nothing to do with the Zhang family.

Mu Yu once said that due to the family's restrictions and their own physical condition, the Zhang family members are extremely xenophobic and keep their whereabouts secret. Once an outsider discovers them, the Zhang family members will try every means to erase that person's memory or eliminate their ability to sense the Zhang family members, turning them into a cripple.

The Zhang family living here knew he was Wu Xie, and even knew his purpose in coming here. The previous few times were less like playing tricks and more like testing him.

Wu Xie felt a little excited. If this person really was related to Muyu, would he know where Muyu had gone, even if it was just a tiny clue?

He still hadn't opened the white wooden box with its intricate carvings, because Black Bear had said it wasn't time yet.

What exactly does this time refer to? Does it correspond to the time mentioned by Granny Monkey?

It was already 3:29 a.m., and fog began to rise in the jungle. It was a fog with a faint reddish tinge, which looked very ominous, and the fog quickly spread toward Wu Xie and his companions.

Wu Xie glanced at the trees around him and noticed that the once lush green leaves had all withered and dried up. His pupils contracted sharply, and he shouted, "Quick, get back to camp! This is miasma, it's poisonous!"

The three fat men, without suspecting anything, immediately turned tail and ran back as if they had wheels of fire on their feet. The wind howled, and the haphazard tree branches along the way mercilessly lashed their faces, but they dared not relax for even a moment, running at their fastest speed ever.

The sizzling sound of leaves being corroded by poisonous miasma swept towards them like a tidal wave. At the last moment, a large cloud-like white mist suddenly surged out in front of them.

The fat man was terrified and hurriedly grabbed Wu Xie, who was running beside him, to stop. He shouted to warn them, "Damn it, don't run anymore, there's poisonous fog ahead too."

The red and white mist attacked from both sides, leaving Wu Xie and his companions panting heavily, frozen in place, unable to move an inch for a moment.

"What do we do now?" Nie Xiaoba asked anxiously.

Wu Xie looked around at the two colors of mist and found that at some points where their edges should have touched, the white mist had miraculously stopped the red miasma.

Without much hesitation, Wu Xie immediately decided, "The white mist seems to be spreading from inside the city wall. Let's run towards the city wall quickly."

After running a short distance, just as Wu Xie had imagined, when they stumbled into the thick white fog, they found that although the fog made it difficult to breathe, it was not fatal. Moreover, most importantly, the white fog was the nemesis of poisonous miasma.

Soon, they left the red miasma far behind, the two types of mist vying for dominance and hindering each other.

Wu Xie and the others quickly returned to the camp. The campfire had already gone out, and the air was thick with moisture. The firewood piled up to the side was completely wet and could not be lit.

Just as the fat man was about to speak, he heard a noise coming from inside the tent. The lantern, which had not been extinguished, cast a dark shadow on the tent.

"Could it be a snake?" the fat man asked silently.

Nie Xiaoba squinted, crouched down, and found a good spot to look through the gap in the tent zipper. He saw a fluffy gray thing swaying on the ground and immediately told Wu Xie, "Third Master, that thing has hair on its tail, it's not a snake."

"Then it's probably a monkey. That tent contains our equipment and food." Wu Xie gestured to the three fat men, signaling them to go up and surround the contents of the tent.

The group clearly divided their tasks and immediately got to work.

A fluffy little gray monkey, barely bigger than a volleyball, is rummaging through a backpack for food, completely unaware of the danger that is about to befall it.

When it found an unopened can of fruit, its round eyes widened with joy.

It had eaten this thing once before; the larger monkeys had recently found it in one of these backpacks.

But it didn't know how to open the can. Just as it was at a loss, it looked up by chance and saw several huge shadows looming overhead. It was so frightened that it dropped the can and rushed out of the tent through the gap.

The fat man reacted quickly, and with a "whoosh," he pounced on the tent, pinning down the tent opening and half of its edge.

In a panic, the little monkey jumped into the backpack to hide.

Wu Xie asked Fatty, "Did you see it clearly?"

The fat man fell and grimaced, spitting out the grass he had chewed up. "Damn it, look closely, it's a little mandrill, all gray and dirty like a big rat, it looks just like its father."

I'm too tired today, so I only managed to write this much. I'll see how I do tomorrow if I'm not too busy.
