Chapter 310 The Fox Bride
However, these were all Jin Wantang's own speculations based on the situation at the time.

When Huo Xiuxiu suddenly sent that letter, Jin Wantang thought that Old Madam Huo wanted to bring up the old story again, or that she suddenly remembered what happened back then and wanted to settle scores with him. He was almost scared to death.

"Who do you think was the person who led the interrogation?" Huo Xiuxiu asked, glancing meaningfully at the young man. "Does this give you any clues?"

Everyone understood her implied meaning, but no one said a word.

Zhang Wuxun turned his gaze to the window and realized that in the short time they had been talking, it had already gotten dark outside.

A pale crescent moon hung in the sky, its thin light illuminating only a small area around it, which looked particularly desolate against the backdrop of overgrown weeds in the courtyard.

A very soft thud came from the tree in the yard outside.

Zhang Wuxun's eyebrows twitched slightly, and he said something completely unrelated, "There seem to be a lot of mosquitoes outside."

"Huh? Oh, right." Huo Xiuxiu also felt a little strange. She glanced out the window and found that the sun had already set. "Strange, usually at this time the mosquitoes would be out in swarms foraging for food, but for some reason, there isn't a single mosquito in this room today."

The fat man winked smugly, put his hands behind his back, and gave Zhang Wuxun and the young man a thumbs-up.

Huo Xiuxiu glanced at the time on her watch, stood up, and slung her small bag over her shoulder. "It's getting late, I should go back now, otherwise I'll definitely give myself away if Grandma asks."

"Wait a minute, let me see you off." Wu Xiaoxie rummaged through the bags that Huo's servants had brought and found a flashlight, turned it on, and waved it towards the door.

"I didn't expect you to be such a gentleman." Huo Xiuxiu smiled and walked towards the door.

As soon as she opened the door, her expression suddenly changed, and she immediately slammed the door shut behind her. "Oh no, my grandma is here."

Immediately afterwards, the courtyard gate creaked open, and several beams of white light from flashlights shone in through the window.

"What should we do? We can't let Grandma find out that I'm investigating her," Huo Xiuxiu said anxiously.

The fat man jumped up with a start, looked left and right, and suddenly pointed upwards, "Let's hide on the roof beam."

Huo Xiuxiu looked up and exclaimed in delight, "There's a skylight in the roof! I can go out from there!"

As she spoke, she stepped onto the stool she had just been sitting on. Wu Xiaoxie and Fatty only felt a blur before their eyes, and then they saw Huo Xiuxiu already hanging from the roof beam.

Then, like a nimble cat, it twisted its body strangely a few times, as if its waist had twisted 360 degrees, and suddenly darted to the skylight. It stepped on the wooden beam, waved to the four people below, and then pushed open the skylight and crawled out.

The fat man was so shocked by her series of nimble movements that his jaw dropped. He blurted out, "My goodness, do you think that old woman Huo has a skill like that too?"

Wu Xiaoxie imagined the scene and immediately shuddered. It was terrifying. If the old lady's silver hair were to hang down from the roof, she would be even more terrifying than a forbidden woman.

A moment later, a series of footsteps came from the stairwell, and then the door was pushed open.

Wu Xiaoxie's flashlight shone directly into the face of the first person who entered, and then they were stunned.

The fat man was also stunned. The two looked at each other and took several steps back in unison.

"Huo Xiuxiu?" Zhang Wuxun stood up from his chair, staring at her with an ambiguous expression.

The young man also sat up abruptly, frowning as he looked at her.

Huo Xiuxiu directed the people to put the things on the ground, and looked at them with a grin, "Why do you all have that expression? Don't you recognize me after just a short while?"

Wu Xiaoxie and the other person turned pale instantly. How come the voices are exactly the same?
The fat man couldn't help but look up at the skylight above him. Huo Xiuxiu hadn't closed the window properly after she crawled out, and it was still wide open.

"Damn, that cripple's ass is weird," the fat man clicked his tongue. "This is really bad."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a dark shadow flashed before his eyes, and the young man had already flipped from the chair onto the roof beam and out through the skylight.

Zhang Wuxun and the other two looked up at the sky.

"What's wrong?" Huo Xiuxiu subconsciously looked up and took a step forward. "A rat?"

As soon as she moved, Zhang Wuxun moved as well, standing between her and the brocade box on the table.

The sound of the young man walking on the roof could be heard. He quickly climbed down and shook his head, saying, "He's gone."

The fat man's hair stood on end, and he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Holy crap, what's going on? Did God rewind?"

The four of them watched Huo Xiuxiu and her group warily.

Huo Xiuxiu was a little unhappy. "I kindly brought you these things, and you don't appreciate it at all. Instead, you look at me like I'm your enemy. That's too much."

Wu Xiaoxie had already realized that something was wrong; there were only three possibilities in the current situation.

Either the Huo Xiuxiu who left earlier was real and the one in front of us was fake, or the one before us was fake and the one in front of us was real, or perhaps both of them were imposters sent by Old Madam Huo or some other force to gather intelligence.

This is bad; the worst may have already happened.

He thought for a moment, then suddenly asked tentatively, "Didn't you already come here earlier?"

Huo Xiuxiu looked bewildered. "When? How come I didn't know? I personally watched these things being bought. How could I have had time to play hide-and-seek with you? What's going on with you guys?"

The fat man was getting angry. "You're asking what happened? I'm the one asking you! If you're Huo Xiuxiu, then what happened when she climbed out the window was a fox spirit in disguise?"

Huo Xiuxiu got angry too, threw the small bag she was carrying on the table, and was about to have a good argument with the fat man.

The young man suddenly spoke up, "It's not her."

As she spoke, she reached out and touched behind Huo Xiuxiu's ear, whispering, "The temperature hasn't changed. It's impossible for someone to flip from the rooftop to the ground so quickly without using any strength, and their breathing wouldn't be this steady."

Seeing that their expressions seemed genuine, Huo Xiuxiu hurriedly asked what had happened.

Wu Xiaoxie then told her what had just happened.

Huo Xiuxiu was also surprised after hearing this, "How is this possible? Why would she impersonate me?"

He immediately called his grandmother to prove his innocence.

Wu Xiaoxie saw that Huo Xiuxiu's expression was calm and composed. Either she was a superb actress, or it was all a natural reaction. The person in front of him was the real Huo Xiuxiu.

Who was that person before? Someone who knows Huo Xiuxiu's words and actions so well must be someone who frequently comes into contact with her.

After thinking for a moment, he asked, "How many members of your Huo family still know that we're here?"

Huo Xiuxiu's expression changed. "You don't suspect that someone close to my grandmother has betrayed the Huo family, do you?" The fat man shouted, "Either someone is secretly plotting against us, or that person is a fox spirit in disguise."

Then he told a story he'd heard somewhere: a fox spirit impersonating a bride was scared away by the sound of police gunfire.

While listening to their discussion on the other end of the phone, Huo Xiangu suddenly spoke up and asked Huo Xiuxiu to turn on the speakerphone.

"When you came out of the Crescent Moon Hotel, besides the box containing the Ghost Seal, did you take anything else?" Huo Xiangu asked.

The fat man scratched his head. "That's all. I didn't even pack those white rooster-comb tea leaves. We guys have 660 million already, who cares about those little bits of saliva?"

"Give the box containing the Ghost Seal to Xiuxiu. She's familiar with the things at the Crescent Moon Hotel. Let her check it for you," Huo Xiangu said directly.

Zhang Wuxun had already picked up the brocade box on the table.

Huo Xiuxiu hung up the phone and reached out to take it.

As a result, Zhang Wuxun's hand holding the brocade box shifted, and he missed her.

Huo Xiuxiu was stunned for a moment, and then she saw Zhang Wuxun use his other hand to pry out a flat, black, round piece about the size of a bottle cap from the bottom of the brocade box.

"Is this it?" Zhang Wuxun asked, smiling at her.

Huo Xiuxiu immediately realized that she had been exposed, her face instantly turned cold, and she shouted, "Rob it!"

It's incredible that such a pretty young girl could have a man's voice coming out of her throat!

The next instant, "Huo Xiuxiu" and her three companions pounced forward like arrows released from a bow, their target the brocade box in Zhang Wuxun's hand.

They originally thought Zhang Wuxun would quickly retreat and hide with the brocade box, but the three men worked together seamlessly and had already blocked Zhang Wuxun's escape route in advance.

Unexpectedly, Zhang Wuxun did not play by the rules at all. The moment "Huo Xiuxiu" reached out to grab it, he threw the brocade box into his arms.

Huo Xiuxiu was shocked. Without thinking, she hurriedly reached for the brocade box, but in the next second, a whooshing sound came from beside her.

He instinctively grabbed the brocade box, rolled to the side to dodge, and immediately found himself sandwiched between Zhang Wuxun and Xiao Ge.

Zhang Wuxun raised his leg and swept it horizontally. Huo Xiuxiu tried to protect the brocade box in her arms and hurriedly raised her arm to block, but she misjudged the force of the kick and was sent flying. She landed right on a waiter who was holding Wu Xiaoxie back, and the two of them fell into a heap.

The fat man roared angrily, grabbed a stool, and smashed it over the other man's head.

Seeing that things were not going well, the two hurriedly tried to dodge. "Huo Xiuxiu" used her toe to pick up another stool, which collided with the stool in the fat man's hand.

The fat man swung so hard that the frames of both stools broke apart.

"Catch, innocent!" The fat man picked up a stool leg from the ground and threw it at Wu Xiaoxie.

Another guy behind Wu Xiaoxie used himself as a restraint, tightly binding Wu Xiaoxie and making him unable to move for a while.

In a moment of desperation, Wu Xiaoxie raised one leg and stomped his heel down hard. The waiter screamed in pain, and his arm slipped from his grasp. Wu Xiaoxie then bent over, arched his back, and rammed past him.

The guy, ignoring his foot pain, hurriedly reached out to pull him, just as the fat man's thrown stool leg landed in place.

However, in the dark, his aim was a bit off. Wu Xiaoxie felt something fly past his fingertips, and then he heard his friend behind him scream again before collapsing to the ground with a thud, clutching his forehead and unable to get up.

Seeing that the situation was good, Wu Xiaoxie immediately chased after him and kicked him a couple more times.

Screams echoed all around. Zhang Wuxun swiftly and decisively dislocated the last man's arms, grabbed his coat and wrapped it over his head, then kicked him aside and piled him high on top of the first man.

The fat man, that brute, pounced on the second waiter, sat on his stomach, and started punching him in the face with his fists as big as casserole dishes.

The guy pinned beneath him was experiencing the excruciating pain of being crushed by Mount Tai while simultaneously trying to protect his face from the beatings, nearly foaming at the mouth and struggling to breathe.

On the other side, the young man and "Huo Xiuxiu" had already exchanged several blows. "Huo Xiuxiu" held a brocade box in one hand and slid an ancient dagger out of her sleeve in the other. Her eyes were fierce as she aimed straight for the young man's vital point.

Wu Xiaoxie realized something was wrong. Looking left and right, he found a bench leg lying by his feet. He immediately picked it up and threw it at the "Huo Xiuxiu's" leg.

Then, "Oops, I missed!" Wu Xiaoxie slapped his forehead in frustration.

Huo Xiuxiu's steps were strange, light as if she were floating on a rope, yet surprisingly steady.

Wu Xiaoxie wasn't a martial arts expert, so naturally he couldn't find any flaws in his footwork.

Zhang Wuxun used one foot to step on two men who were stacking turtles to restrict their movements. Seeing this, he flipped his wrist and sent out an iron bullet that hit Huo Xiuxiu right in the back of her knee.

Huo Xiuxiu staggered, her knee hitting the ground. After a couple of seconds, she quickly stood up as if nothing had happened.

But the young man was no longer in the same spot.

Just as "Huo Xiuxiu" was puzzled, a dark shadow descended from the sky, pressing down from mid-air like lightning, directly knocking "Huo Xiuxiu" out and slamming her against the door.

The old, dilapidated wooden door, already in disrepair and not very sturdy, was smashed open by his impact, and "Huo Xiuxiu" slid half of her body out of the hole.

As Zhang Wuxun's two men struggled to get up, the fat man finished dealing with his own men, then walked over and swung a chair leg at each of their heads. The two men's vision went black, and they immediately collapsed.

The fat man, holding the two stool legs like Li Kui, the Black Whirlwind, wielding his three-axe axe, looked fierce and menacing, his blood boiling over as he strode forward, seemingly about to strike "Huo Xiuxiu."

Zhang Wuxun quickly reached out to stop him, suppressing a laugh, "Fatty, stop hitting him. Put down the stick. The spectators are about to take the stage."

The fat man came to his senses and saw that Zhang Wuxun and the young man both looked relaxed, so he dropped the stick.

The "Huo Xiuxiu" stuck in the doorway, whether from pain or something else, had her face contorted and slowly got up from the ground.

Looking at Zhang Wuxun and the others, he suddenly laughed. His face was cut by a splinter, and when he laughed, the flesh looked like it was peeling out, but not a drop of blood came out.

Wu Xiaoxie's eyelids twitched as she looked at him, and she pointed at his face and said, "Hey, stop laughing, your face is cracked."

Upon hearing this, "Huo Xiuxiu" touched her face, then reached behind her ear and tore off a mask.

"It's you!" Wu Xiaoxie recognized him immediately.

This "fox bride" was the one in the pink shirt they had seen at the Crescent Hotel before.

Xie Yuchen looked like he was being beaten but was still laughing happily. Then, his joints cracked and popped, and he stretched out and suddenly grew much taller.
