Chapter 232 The Rooster's Comb
Wu Xiaoxie was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously looked at the fat man, only to find that he was still unconscious.

Who is speaking?!
Wu Xiaoxie hurriedly looked around, but found nothing.

Apart from the thunderous sound of water, the stone chamber was completely empty as far as the eye could see.

Did he hit his head when he fell and then hallucinate?
Rubbing his temples, Wu Xiaoxie turned around and took out an energy gel to replenish his energy.

"Time is running out!"

Another sudden sound.

This time, Wu Xiaoxie was certain that the voice came from behind him.

But when he shone his headlamp over it, he still found nothing.

The hairs on his body stood on end instantly. Wu Xiaoxie stood up, his wary eyes searching the pool inch by inch. "Who's there?" he asked.

After waiting for a long time, there was still no response.

A chill ran down his spine. What the hell was that? Could it be the ghosts of those who died unjustly up there, following him down?

"Probably not," Wu Xiaoxie thought to himself. He wasn't the one who killed them. Even if they died unjustly, they should go after Wild Chicken Neck for revenge. What's the point of chasing after him?

Could it be that he came to Wu Sansheng's door because he is Wu Sansheng's nephew?
The thought had barely crossed his mind when he dismissed it. It was impossible; he hadn't shown his face, so the people his third uncle had hired couldn't possibly know him, let alone know that he was Wu Sansheng's nephew.

Just as I was thinking this, a faint voice came from the darkness, "Third Master."

The voice was flat and sounded a bit strange, but it was definitely the accent of Xingcheng.

Wu Xiaoxie was taken aback, then overjoyed, thinking that perhaps his third uncle's men were trapped here, and his tense mood relaxed considerably.

"It's me. Who are you?"

Wu Xiaoxie responded, thought for a moment, then took out the entrenching tool hanging on his backpack and waded through the water toward the source of the sound.

"Young Master San~"

This time he heard it clearly. The sound was coming from behind the rotten wood and branches at the water inlet where the fat man had been stuck. He wondered if someone else was stuck like the fat man.
Carefully parting the branches, I shone my headlamp through the gap and looked inside. There was indeed a dark, human-like figure underwater, close to the waterway. It wasn't very clear, but as long as I knew there was someone there, that was enough.

The fact that he can speak means he is still conscious. If I rescue him, I will be able to find out where my third uncle is.

"Don't worry, wait a moment, I'll get you out right away."

Wu Xiaoxie shouted inside, then bit the handle of the miner's lamp and struggled to move the rotten wood blocking the water inlet.

There were still three or four meters of branches piled up behind him, intertwined and impossible to pull out. He had no choice but to pick up his entrenching tool and chop hard at the outermost layer of branches.

The green branches were already flexible, and after being soaked in water for a long time, they clumped together. It took several shovelfuls to make a small opening, and it took a lot of effort to make just enough for a head to stick out.

During those busy ten minutes, it was quiet behind the tree branch. Wu Xiaoxie wondered if the person had fainted after hearing someone come to rescue them, or if they were already dead. He stretched his neck and peered inside, wanting to take a closer look.

As soon as he poked his head out, he was met with a pair of blood-red eyes. Terrified, Wu Xiaoxie screamed and instinctively tried to dodge, falling backward and landing on his backside in the water. After a long while, seeing no movement, Wu Xiaoxie gritted his teeth, got up, grabbed his entrenching tool, and tentatively called out again, ready to shovel the monster inside at any moment.

"Young Master San~"

Another faint sound came from inside, like a sigh, which was clearly heard by Wu Xiaoxie.

Wu Xiaoxie breathed a sigh of relief. If it could still speak, it must be alive. He hadn't seen it clearly at first glance, so he took two steps forward and crouched down to look more closely.

Upon seeing this, he was immediately terrified and felt a chill run down his spine.

What came into view was a hideous dead body, its body pressed against the stone wall, its head tilted straight back as if it had been twisted off, the scalp near its forehead was ripped off and hanging to one side, revealing the fleshy red flesh underneath that had turned white from being soaked in water, like the kind of eight-treasure porridge that has gone bad and moldy after being opened.

Blood was still dripping from its two scarlet eyes, its chin and throat were rotten, and its tongue hung on its nose like a hanged ghost, looking extremely long.

His chest was ripped open with a hole the size of a large bowl, and inside was a bloody mess of flesh and blood. His internal organs had long since been ripped out by something.

What horrified Wu Xiaoxie the most was that the corpse's tongue was still alive, wriggling as if trying to crawl into its eye socket.

Upon closer inspection, it was clear that this wasn't a tongue at all; it was a thick, fiery red crested snake!

"Young Master San~"

The pheasant's comb twitched, and its neck seemed to sense Wu Xiaoxie's gaze. It raised its neck, its crimson eyes fixed on him.

Their eyes met, and the voice came from the rooster's comb!
Wu Xiaoxie's mind went blank for a second, as if struck by lightning, and he almost lost his soul. Damn it, the snake can talk? Good heavens, this snake has become a spirit!

A chill ran from the soles of his feet straight to his head, and beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead. At that moment, all his attention was focused on the snake in front of him.

His hand holding the entrenching tool was trembling slightly. He wasn't confident he could kill the snake before it lunged at him, so he couldn't fight it head-on and had to retreat.

Fortunately, the safety amulet that Muyu gave him was still there. The pheasant seemed to have some reservations, only keeping a close eye on him and not choosing to get closer.

Wu Xiaoxie stared intently at the motionless pheasant neck, taking small steps backward until it was out of the pheasant neck's sight, before accelerating to reach the fat man.

They couldn't stay here any longer. There were many wells on the other side. Wu Xiaoxie chose the one furthest from the pheasant's neck. He had just helped the fat man up and dragged him a couple of steps when he caught a glimpse of red out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head and saw that the pheasant's neck had actually crawled out of the dead man's head. It was now clinging to the piled-up branches, looking down at them, its eyes emitting a resentful and sinister light.

"Young Master San~"

The rooster's comb trembled slightly, and the snake's body arched, as if a bewitching ghost twisted its alluring form, extending an invitation to Wu Xiaoxie.

Wu Xiaoxie was both shocked and frightened, his heart filled with dread, and he couldn't help but curse the damned snake in his heart.

Even though there was some distance between them, being stared at by a snake made Wu Xiaoxie feel both terrified and uneasy, wishing he had the ability to burrow underground and escape immediately.

The fat man was too heavy. Wu Xiaoxie tried to pull him a few times, but he couldn't muster any strength. He could only help him lean against the stone wall and then stare up at the pheasant neck that was still trying to catch up with him along the rough stone wall.

With a heavy heart, I thought, "Damn it, I'm going to fight you to the death today!"
