Chapter 139 The Lower Mezzanine
The two groups of people were facing off against each other.

However, Zhang Wuxun's side clearly had the advantage in numbers. Lang Feng was dead, Hua Heshang was trampled underfoot by Zhang Wuxun, and Chen Pi Asi now only had the useless Ye Cheng by his side. The guide Shunzi also tended to side with Zhang Wuxun.

Chen Pi Asi was basically all alone, and he was clearly aware of this, as his face turned extremely grim.

He gripped the iron pellet tightly and then loosened his grip, finally managing a dry smile on his wrinkled face. "Young people are so hot-tempered. We don't even know if we can get out of here now. Why don't we focus our energy on what's to come?"

Zhang Wuxun's lips curled into a mocking smile, but he remained silent and unmoved.

Chen Pi Asi's eyes turned cold for a moment, then surprisingly revealed a warm expression, and called out the name of the monk Hua who was lying on the ground.

Hua the monk naturally understood what the old man meant. He gritted his teeth unwillingly, but now that he was being controlled by others and the old man was at a disadvantage, he could only take a step back no matter how unwilling he was.

“Brother Yu, I turned on the light just now because I wanted to see what the monster looked like. I never expected that it would almost cause you trouble. I apologize to you, Brother Yu. Please be magnanimous and let me off the hook. Please tell me what you need, and I will accept it without hesitation.” After receiving a look from Chen Pi Asi, Monk Hua added, “Third Master suffered a lot of losses this time. I have a line of people under my command who are rolling in money. I’ll give this to Brother Yu to calm his nerves.”

Clearly, both Hua Heshang and Chen Pi Asi assumed that Zhang Wuxun was a formidable new recruit that Wu Sansheng had somehow found, and they secretly cursed Wu Sansheng, that old fox who was still so cunning even with a limp.

Zhang Wuxun raised an eyebrow, showing no intention of explaining, but instead looked at Wu Xiaoxie and asked, "Third Master, what do you think?"

Wu Xiaoxie was stunned by the question, but when he realized it, he found it funny. He knew that Zhang Wuxun was deliberately saying this to establish his authority and to make him, as a junior, stand up straight in front of Chen Pi Asi. So he cleared his throat and said, "Si Agong is so polite, then this junior will accept it without being impolite. Muyu, are your feet sore from standing for so long? Take a break."

Zhang Wuxun, in a moment of mercy, lifted his foot and let Monk Hua go, saying, "Alright, I'll listen to you, Third Master."

Chen Pi Asi waved his hand, and Ye Cheng immediately bent down and squeezed through the crowd to help Hua Heshang up. With a smile, under the watchful eyes of Zhang Wuxun and the others, he slowly withdrew from the encirclement and returned to Chen Pi Asi's side.

The tense atmosphere eased slightly, and Pan Zi breathed a sigh of relief, patting Zhang Wuxun on the shoulder.

Zhang Wuxun nodded to him and sheathed the knife behind his back.

He never intended to fight Chen Pi Asi immediately; he was just using the situation as an excuse to issue a warning. Since Chen Pi Asi would eventually be trapped here, why should he bother and get himself dirty?

Wu Xiaoxie was so overwhelmed by this ordeal that she lost all her emotions, let alone any extra sympathy for Lang Feng. She walked around Zhang Wuxun with a lamp in hand and, seeing that there were no obvious external injuries except for a lot of dirt on his clothes, she was relieved. "You're not hurt, are you?"

Zhang Wuxun took out a few chocolates from his pocket and tossed them to them, laughing, "Nothing, just a little bug, what can it do to me?"

The fat man, munching on his chocolate, craned his neck to look at the large crater in front of the blasted-open insect corpses. "Want to go take a look?"

"Let's go, there's nowhere else to go anyway." Zhang Wuxun said, lifting his foot and walking towards the pit. Wu Xiaoxie and the others quickly followed.

A cold wind blew out of the pit. Based on his knowledge, Wu Xiaoxie deduced that there should be another layer of space below, and it seemed that he could get out from there.

The fat man, with a rope tied around his waist, went down first to scout ahead, asking Zhang Wuxun to hold the rope for him, to keep an eye on Chen Pi Asi and his gang of cunning old foxes.

The space below was too small, and the fat man felt too cramped, so he thought of digging a bigger space. Wu Xiaoxie was above, providing light and directing him. But just as he swung the short hammer, the wooden beam under the fat man's feet snapped with a crack, and his body tilted, his entire leg sinking into the hole.

The fat man cursed and tried to pull his leg out, but he only managed to get up to his knee when his expression suddenly changed. "Oh no! Something's pulling my leg down there!"

As he spoke, he slid down.

Zhang Wuxun and Wu Xiaoxie quickly jumped into the pit, grabbed him, and pulled him up, while Pan Zi stood by with his entrenching tool, ready to fight.

But no matter how hard Zhang Wuxun and the other man tried, the fat man's foot remained stuck in the crack between the bricks and he couldn't get out.

Panzi shone his lamp into the crack and saw a withered, bluish-purple hand emerging from the hole that the fat man had collapsed, gripping the fat man's ankle tightly.

Pan Zi was terrified and swung his shovel to chop at it.

The fat man screamed in fright, swinging his legs back and forth, but missed several times. The shovel head struck the rocks on both sides, sending sparks flying.

When the fat man saw how much force Pan Zi was using, he broke out in a cold sweat and yelled, "You damn well better aim carefully, or you'll cut my foot!"

Pan Zi said irritably, "Shut up, if you fucking move again, I'll settle the score right down your thigh!"

He swung the shovel again, but still missed.

Upon hearing this, the fat man immediately shouted, "Change him! Muyu, quickly take that shovel from him! This kid doesn't like me and is trying to settle a personal score."

Zhang Wuxun wanted to laugh when he heard this, so he told Shunzi to jump down and take over his position, while he squatted down to try to stabilize the fat man's legs.

He had just squatted down halfway when his foot suddenly sank into the pit, causing him to stumble and fall hard to the bottom, pulling the fat man he was holding down with him.

The fat man screamed and smashed an even bigger pit, causing another section of the stone corridor below to sink in. Wu Xiaoxie and Shunzi also fell sideways and piled on top of the fat man.

Pan Zi, carrying an entrenching tool, leaned over to help them up when suddenly, a series of "cracking" sounds came from under their bottoms, followed by a violent tremor. The stone corridor suddenly sank down, and before anyone could react, they slid down the collapsed slope.

Zhang Wuxun quickly protected his head and rolled down with Wu Xiaoxie and the others, wedged between the collapsing timber and bricks.

As the slope eased, Zhang Wuxun grabbed onto the bricks to stop himself. His buttocks were numb from the fall, and he could hear a constant stream of curses, each one insulting his ancestors.

Closing his eyes to ease the dizziness, Zhang Wuxun opened them and looked around. He spotted Wu Xiaoxie curled up to his upper left and quickly crawled over to help him up. Seeing that Wu Xiaoxie's eyes were tightly closed, his heart skipped a beat. Fortunately, Wu Xiaoxie opened his eyes on his own the next second, groping around with his hands, and grabbed Zhang Wuxun's face. "Wooden fish?"

"It's me. Are you alright? Where are you hurt?" Zhang Wuxun dug out a flashlight that had been knocked out from among the broken bricks. He tapped it on the bricks, and the bulb flickered and lit up again, though the light was much dimmer than before.
