Chapter 896 Terrifying Corpse Dragon
Chapter 896 Terrifying Corpse Dragon
What Kaldor found truly infuriating was that who would believe a corpse blessed by a priest could be resurrected by necromancy and crawl back out of its coffin? Doesn't that make the priest's purification magic and soothing holy light seem utterly useless?
"I don't think they'd stoop to the level of a farce where the dead can rise again, given the Imperial War burial procedures. The bishop in charge of that diocese will probably be burned at the stake by the Temple's Inquisition!" Kaldo grumbled. "In a country under the protection of the Dragon God, you're doing this? What about the bishop's reputation? What about the Temple's reputation?!"
“Then we need to be careful! If this isn’t an ancient battlefield remnant of the Empire…” Caslo narrowed his eyes.
“I knew it wouldn’t be simple, little…” Cardo raised an eyebrow and was about to speak when Caslo instinctively raised his longsword to block at his side.
"boom!"
“I told you to be careful…” Cardo whispered as he watched Caslo climb out of the wall.
"Ahem! I knew this thing existed!" Caslo didn't answer Kaldo's question, but coughed and revealed an expression that said, "I knew it."
Appearing before the man and the dragon was a bizarre skeleton crouching on the ground. Unlike the claws of ordinary skeletons, this thing had bone scythes like a praying mantis! The two enormous bone scythes were as tall as a person, and there was no doubt that a single blow could cut several people in two!
"A parasitic corpse puppet! This thing!" Caslo flipped his wrist, preparing to attack.
"Whoosh!" Before Caslo could think, a terrifying green flame shot out, and the next second, the monstrous corpse puppet was left with only two skeletal legs and half a bone blade.
With a series of cracking sounds as bones collided, the dismantled corpse puppet merged back into the pile of bones, and before Caslo could catch his breath, he was knocked back again.
"I knew these things were social creatures!" Caslo, belatedly realizing this, swung his longsword around as he muttered, suddenly deflecting two giant bone blades that were coming at him at crossroads!
"Something's not right with this thing!" Kaldo said, casually spraying a zombie puppet into bone dust.
"What's wrong now?" Caslo blocked the corpse puppets that were attacking from the shadows, and occasionally managed to cut one down. However, in order to guard against enemies deep inside, he could not recklessly squander his dragon power. So, relying on brute force and a little bit of dragon power, these corpse puppets actually managed to fight Caslo back and forth in the sneak attacks!
"Where are the high-ranking undead? How could there be any corpse puppets if there are no high-ranking undead here?" Kaldo asked in confusion. There was no information about high-ranking undead in the intelligence, but corpse puppets would always be born next to high-ranking undead as guards and cannon fodder!
"Strange!" Caslo also noticed something was wrong. After all, the Empire had clashed with high-level undead many times, and the Empire even had powerful necromancers in the past! The conditions for the birth of a corpse puppet are nothing more than a few, but currently, only high-level undead meet the criteria!
"This place is so eerie! Shall we leave? We can come back and check it out once everyone's gathered," Kaldo suggested. Even he, a dragon, was terrified by the sight of the skeletons scattered throughout the cave! Let alone Caslo! The key issue was that the place was unsettling if they couldn't see the main character for a while!
“Let’s go…” Caslo was also very willing to bring his good brother along to “share” this “treasure trove”! He was still a little nervous about speedrunning through this place by himself.
"Crack!" Suddenly, the skull in the skeleton beneath their feet moved, prompting Caslo and Kaldo, who were on guard, to unleash a skill, instantly shattering the skull.
"Heh! You're scaring yourself!" Caslo and Kaldo exchanged a glance, both seeing the amusement in each other's eyes. "...Oh no..." Kaldo's voice trembled.
Through the reflection in Kaldor's dragon eyes, Caslo clearly saw the skeletons behind him rise up eerily, their eerie blue soul flames igniting once more in their eye sockets! They were the very embodiment of—Rise! Skeletons who refuse to be dead!
"Dragon! Bone dragon!" Kaldor ignored the skeletons and focused his gaze on the undead dragon that had emerged from the pile of bones.
"This is a Corpse Dragon!" Looking at the patchwork of rotten dragon skin and decaying flesh on this undead dragon, Caslo immediately called out its name. Bone dragons are not necessarily real dragon corpses; most bone dragons are fakes pieced together from the bones of other creatures! But the Corpse Dragon is a genuine high-level undead transformed from a dragon corpse!
"Caslo! Purify him for me! This evil beast is blaspheming the dignity of the dragon race!" Kaldo's eyes immediately turned red. He could accept the existence of bone dragons, after all, those things, apart from having the shape of dragons, had basically nothing to do with dragons! But the corpse dragon was destined to be a real dragon in his previous life!
"Purify him! You're sick, and so am I! A corpse dragon formed from an ice dragon!" Caslo lazily rolled around to dodge the corpse dragon's attack while trying to figure out its attributes. Then, a stream of ice shot out, and Caslo, whose body was almost frozen numb, no longer needed to guess.
"An ice dragon? That thing covered in ice?" Kaldor, having reverted to his dragon form, slashed at it with his claws. The sound of the blade cutting through ice sent chills down Caslo's spine! Clearly, the attack wasn't very effective…
"Roar!" The cyan dragon-powered crescent blade was flung out by Kaldo, and the wind blade with extreme cutting power actually cut out dazzling sparks.
"No way! Brother!" Caslo's eyes widened! From now on, if anyone says that the Storm Dragon's attack power is incredibly sharp, he'll definitely show them this feat! It can't even cut through them!
"That's tough!" Looking at his chest, which had failed to be attacked, Kaldor couldn't help but sigh. Even the Frost Dragon, with the support of its remaining dragon power, could still withstand the Storm Dragon's attacks without restraint!
"This place is too small, let's find a way to shrink so we can get out!" Caslo knew he needed time to wear down the Corpse Dragon by looking at the smooth, mirror-like ice crystal breastplate on its chest!
"Don't cut! Hold on tight!" Kaldo grabbed Caslo and shielded him under his abdomen. Before Caslo could react, he suddenly grew to a gigantic size and crashed headfirst into the top of the cave.
"Crack! Bang!" As sections of the stone wall were pushed open, a green figure soared into the sky! Cardo, dragging Caslo along, frowned as he stared at the cave with lingering fear!
"You're injured! Seriously! Cardo!" Caslo exclaimed, pointing at Cardo, who was covered in blood.
Kaslow was completely dominated by the Corpse Dragon in the confined space! Although the enormous Kaldor was also skilled in melee combat, no dragon would enjoy close combat with a Corpse Dragon that brought plague and corrosion, right? Not even the Black Dragon, which was famous for its melee fighting!
"The rotten plague curse! This is it! This thing is probably the culprit!" Kaldo said with certainty, gazing into the deep cave as he gathered his dragon power to remove the plague and virus clinging to his wounds.
"Should we get it bandaged first?" Caslo asked, looking at Kaldo, whose wings were corroded and leaking air everywhere.
"Thank you! Although I really wanted to, I probably won't have the chance before I kill it!" Kaldo said, his teeth aching.
"This thing is not afraid of sunlight?" When he saw the corpse dragon bursting out of the cave and spreading its already fluffy wings to take flight, Caslo was about to make a sarcastic remark, but he couldn't laugh for the next second.
