Chapter 769 The Last Legacy
Chapter 769 The Last Legacy
"The dead... lord?" Weiss's mind was a little confused, and Vili's memories couldn't provide him with this information either, so Weiss didn't know what to think for a moment.
"I come from the White Mountains, and I was once the king of the mountains there... Later... Alas!" The spirit of the dead looked at Weiss and sighed, not continuing.
In the year 3320 of the Second Age, the kingdom of Gondor was founded. A black stone still stands in Erech, said to have been brought from Númenor by Isildur. It is situated on a hill, before which the King of the Mountain swore an oath of allegiance to Isildur at the beginning of the kingdom's founding.
However, in the year 3429 of the Second Age, when Sauron attacked Gondor, Isildur summoned the people of the mountains to fulfill their oath, but they refused: for they had worshipped Sauron in the Dark Ages. So Isildur cursed them:
“You will never have rest until the day your oath is fulfilled.”
The mountain people fled from the enraged Isildur, and dared not fight for Sauron's side. They hid in secret mountain locations, cutting off all contact with others, and gradually declined in the desolate wilderness. Thus, the terror brought by the sleepless dead enveloped Mount Ereh and all the places where that people had once roamed.
After the people of the mountains died, unable to find peace because of the curse of King Isildur of Gondor, they gathered in the mountains and formed the Trail of the Dead, wandering there to block the living from entering.
The prophet Mawbes once said during the reign of Avidui, the last king of Asedan:
A shadow falls upon the land, the wings of darkness spread westward. The towers of guardians tremble, doom approaches the tombs of past kings. The dead awaken in the mountains, the hour of the broken promises arrives: they will rise again, return to the blackstone of Erech, and hear the horns echoing from the tombs. Whose horn sounds, who is in the dim light?
Awaken the forgotten? He is the descendant entrusted with the oath. He will come from the North, bearing a mission: only he who passes through the forbidden gate will tread the path of the dead.
Of course, Roland could only dismiss this as nonsense, since as the last descendant of the King of Gondor, no one but Aragorn could make these undead fulfill their promises.
"..." After hearing the Heroic Spirit's account, Weiss's lips twitched. What kind of nonsense was this? A curse had bound your entire clan to that ditch? Even the way Weiss looked at the Heroic Spirit changed.
"Thank you for your help, but I don't know why you..." A hint of wariness appeared in Weiss's eyes. Where in the Middle-earth would a pie fall from the sky? You know, what falls from the sky isn't necessarily a pie; it could also be a forbidden spell! Weiss certainly wouldn't immediately believe this inexplicably appearing Heroic Spirit, but since the other party had saved him, Weiss felt bad about sending him away. However, Weiss was still puzzled as to why this Heroic Spirit had found him. If he wasn't mistaken, the White Mountains were probably a hundred and eight thousand miles away from here, right?
"Heh, you! Just as cautious as that Sernar guy!" A smile, more like a grimace, appeared on the old face of the Heroic Spirit.
"Cernar?" The three words struck Viss's soul like a thunderbolt, leaving him in a daze.
"Whoosh~" While Weiss was in a daze, the spirit of the King of the Mountain suddenly appeared in front of Weiss and pointed his index finger directly at Weiss's brow.
"!" Weiss was terrified and was about to dodge, but his body couldn't keep up with his thoughts. He could only watch helplessly as the Heroic Spirit's hand touched his brow.
"..." Weiss felt a sudden dizziness, as if his soul had been sucked into a mysterious space. As his vision went black and then brightened again, he found himself in a vast, pure white space.
“This is…” Weiss said in a somewhat panicked manner.
"Child." The spirit of the King of the Mountains appeared beside him at some unknown time.
"Where am I? Where have you dragged me?" Weiss was terrified. He knew that dimensional banishment magic existed in Middle-earth. If Weiss were truly banished with his current abilities, he would have no choice but to send Roland to find him in the void with a silver dragon. As Weiss panicked, the entire space began to shake violently, as if invisible gusts of wind were rising within it, making the entire space appear to be on the verge of collapse.
"Sernar, your successor is no good!" the King of the Mountain said with a hint of mockery.
"Calm down, little one!" A gentle and familiar voice then rang in Weiss's ears.
“Senior Sernar…? You are not…” Weiss turned his head in shock. Sernar, dressed in knight's uniform, was smiling at him. He was now a young human, and had long lost the ferocity he had as a Ringwraith.
“Thank you for allowing me to die as a human again.” Cernal shook his head, interrupting Weiss.
"Then what is this...?" Weiss was a little confused. He stared blankly at Cernar's figure, his mind a complete blank.
“This is your spiritual world, your soul space. To put it bluntly, I am just a wandering soul seeking refuge. Since we can meet, it means you have successfully encountered the King of the Mountains.” Sernar’s voice was gentle and peaceful.
“In fact, I found him…” The King of the Mountain shrugged.
"Hahaha! Little Dragon, don't be angry. Look, I've found you a good knight. Don't keep that long face." Sernar ignored the King of the Mountain and smiled at the Void instead.
"You're not welcome here! This is my home!" A magnificent contract appeared, and Vili flew out with a dragon face on his back, looking displeased at Cernal. Although he didn't dislike Vis, it didn't mean he liked Cernal, who had forcibly made a contract with him.
"Don't rush, don't rush, I'll be leaving soon!" Senar raised his hand to reassure Vili. Vili didn't press him. He could see Senar's current state. He, a dragon, wouldn't stoop so low as to argue with the ghost of a dead man.
"Time is running out, Lord Sernar!" The King of the Mountain looked at Sernar and whispered. He had forcibly brought the two of them together, as the King of the Mountain's strength would not allow Sernar's remnant soul to linger for too long.
“Alright, let’s get straight to the point. Kid, I have high hopes for you. I’m entrusting those undead people of the mountains to you. You can command them to attack your enemies. This is my last legacy…” Cernal pursed his lips and suddenly said with some sadness.
“Treat those poor souls well. They were betrayed by Gondor and Sauron. You shouldn't let them shed any more tears. If peace is restored... let them rest in peace!” Cernar said softly, staring into Viss's eyes.
"Huh?" Weiss was taken aback. Why did he entrust the undead to him?
"Don't forget, you are also a Dúnedan person... It's not just the Child of Prophecy who can raise the Holy Sword to command the dead! There are also knights who wield my Holy Sword! I see the future in you... Perhaps you are not the Child of Prophecy, but you still have a bright future. Walk your own path! Keep going! Carry our hopes and blessings with you!" Sernar said solemnly.
“I entrust this child to your protection. I can no longer guard him. Protect him well. When he raises the Holy Sword and leads you to attack Mordor, that will be your day of liberation!” Cernar said to the King of the Mountain.
“I understand, Lord Sernar! I will protect him!” The King of the Mountain nodded, never doubting Sernar’s words.
