Chapter 714 First Steps into Gondor

Chapter 714 First Steps into Gondor
"Ah~" Weiss rolled his eyes and fell asleep immediately.

"Enough! Stop scaring the child!" Caslo shook his head helplessly. These people were easily frightened; Kaldor's shout almost sent him to his death...

"Tch! Boring!" Kaldo flicked his tail and said with a bored expression.

……

"Alright, we should go now! Say goodbye to your grandfather properly!" Caslo gently ruffled Weiss's short brown hair.

"Old man, here are a few silver coins for you. Although your expenses will be less after the child and I leave, you still need to live. Take good care of yourself if you still hope to live to see your grandson make something of himself!" Caslo placed a stack of silver coins on the table and pushed them over. Although silver coins were relatively rare here, they weren't enough to move people's hearts. Giving him gold coins would have been disastrous.

"..." The old man's lips moved slightly, but in the end he did not refuse.

"Weiss, listen to the adults. Grandpa doesn't ask you to be outstanding, he just hopes you will come back safe and sound..." The old man pulled Weiss aside and muttered for a while, and finally handed him a bundle that he had packed overnight.

“…Give it to me!” Caslo’s eyes twitched as he looked at the bundle that was half the size of Weiss. Had this old man put his whole family in there?

Looking at Caslo, who casually put the bundle into his spatial equipment, the old man bowed gratefully, cupped his hands in a gesture of flattery.

"Sir, if the child does anything wrong, please feel free to scold or beat him! Don't hold back!" the old man said humbly.

"It's not that serious. Alright, you guys catch up first, I'll wait for you outside!" Caslo, seeing Weiss wiping away tears and the old man looking reluctant to part, realized he couldn't stand the atmosphere any longer and had to escape first. So he said goodbye and slipped out like a slippery eel.

……

"Huh? New soldiers have arrived!" Kaldor's voice echoed in Caslo's mind.

“Indeed, it’s a group of rangers! A group of professionals has actually come!” Caslo looked in the direction Kaldo pointed out and saw a group of rangers carrying short bows and short swords walking by.

"Tch, even dogs would disdain human rangers!" Kaldo scoffed, saying that elven rangers were the cream of the crop, and all other rangers were trash.

"I hope you'll remain just as tough when facing El Niño Rangers!" Caslo sneered.

"..." Kaldor was completely speechless. Fine, fine! Why bring up something you don't want to talk about? Those who target the dragons can all die!
“But then again, they’ve definitely made a big move!” Caslo murmured.

"What?" Kaldo asked, puzzled.

"Rangers of Gondor! Knights of Rohan! Warriors of the Shire! What a mixed bag!" Caslow said with a strange expression. He could understand the banners of Gondor and Rohan, but the banners of the Shire… good heavens! Was this mercenary group recruiting from all over Middle-earth? How come they had all sorts of strange characters among them!
“That is indeed quite complicated…” Kaldor’s brain began to race, but he couldn’t figure out the connection between these regions at all.

"Alright, let's forget about this mercenary group that doesn't discriminate between meat and vegetables. We still have His Highness's mission!" Caslo shook his head helplessly. Although he really wanted to go and watch the drama unfold, the heavy responsibility he bore for King Roland prevented him from indulging in his own reckless pursuit.

"All done?" Caslo asked suddenly without turning around, his perception as a fifth-tier dragon knight was more than enough to sense the child appearing behind him.

"Yes, I've already said goodbye! Let's go, teacher!" Weiss wiped away his tears and said bravely. "You can't cry anymore!" Caslo teased with a smile.

“No! Strong warriors don’t cry!” Weiss said defiantly, as if Caslo had looked down on him.

"Warriors? What future do those things have? Do you know what Lagrange was founded on?" Caslo asked with a smile, playfully flicking Weiss's nose.

"I don't know!" Weiss said honestly, clutching Caslo's cloak as he followed behind him.

"Old man! Go back now. Don't worry, I'll take good care of him!" Caslo turned his head and waved towards Weiss's house. Although he couldn't see, his mental power didn't lie. Weiss's grandfather was watching them through the crack in the wooden door.

"Come on, kid, you're in luck!" Caslo patted his head and said smugly. After all, there were very few children in the entire Middle-earth who could be taken care of by a dragon knight. Caslo only knew one dragon knight outside of the Kingdom of Lagrange—Peter Gro!
"You still haven't told me what La is founded on?" Vess stubbornly grabbed Caslo's cloak.

“It’s up to the knights, my child!” Caslo’s voice became solemn.

"The original knights of the North built the Wall with their own flesh and blood, and created Lagrang! Knights have always been the pillar profession of Lagrang! As long as there is a Lagrang knight, Lagrang will... never perish!" Caslo's voice was slightly deep, but it resonated in Weiss's heart like the sound of a bell.

"Then can I become... a knight?" Weiss murmured.

"Of course! You're a born warrior, all warrior professions will suit you! There won't be any failure in changing professions!" Caslo said with some envy. Weiss was born with the ticket to becoming a professional; he could choose any warrior profession! As long as he had a guide, he could easily step into the ranks of professionals!
"Then I want to become a knight! No! I want to become a dragon knight too!" Weiss said, pointing to Caslo's bare shoulder, where Caslo's dragon had been lying not long ago.

"Hahaha! That's ambitious!" Caslo didn't dampen Weiss's confidence, after all, every knight's lifelong dream is to ride a dragon! Riding a dragon is the highest achievement for knights! No knight doesn't yearn to become a dragon knight, and if he doesn't yearn for it, then he... is already a dragon knight.

"Kid, becoming a dragon knight isn't something you can just talk about! Dragons require contracts! And dragons really do eat people!" Kaldo popped out quietly, stuck out his tongue at Weiss, and said in a sinister tone. Clearly, scaring children had become an addiction for Kaldo.

"I'm not afraid! I want to become a dragon knight too! I'll let my dragon beat you!" This time, Weiss didn't show any fear. Instead, he pointed at Kaldor, who was peeking out from the gap in the armor, and planted his flag with great vigor.

"Tsk tsk tsk! Interesting kid!" Kaldo couldn't help but give Viss a higher opinion of him. After all, to be able to face a dragon without flinching on the second occasion already showed a composure that surpassed many others.

"Alright, let's leave!" Caslo ignored the two of them, and casually picked up Weiss, leaping over the low city wall and into the wilderness.

"Goodbye, Grandpa..." Weiss waved goodbye as he watched his home recede into the distance.

……

“We should be in Gondor by now!” In a desolate wilderness, Caslo held up Weiss and spread out the map.

"Once we get here, hurry up and let the brat get off my back!" Kaldo said with a reluctant expression. In principle, no one but a knight should ride on the back of a dragon, but dragons also understand human relationships. In addition, Weiss is small and will not pose any threat. For Caslo's sake, Kaldo pinched his nose and let him ride on his back.

"Kid, you're really lucky! You've already become a dragon knight before even becoming a knight!" Kaldo muttered. After all, Weiss, who was in Caslo's arms, was the number one, so calling him a dragon knight wasn't wrong...
